November 26, 200718 yr Well, I just went over to the runescape site to check for updates and polls and stuff(as ya do) and i came across the new poll, Asking what consoles do we own, do we play games on mobiles... ect. Anyways onto the point, They say theres a big update for runescape coming up, and i hate to be another 'OMG I KNOW WHAT IT IS' guy.. But.. Do you think jagex are planning to release runescape or any other game onto a console? I mean.. they said they would release hints over the weeks, this could be one. (But what about summoning) I'm sure that if jagex wanted us to keep guessing they wouldn't put a blatant message on the home page about summoning. I know I'm probably going to get flamed for this.. But surely jagex wouldn't just ask us these questions for nothing. (If this has already been posted then sorry :$) Runescape developer Jagex has revealed a console version of its browser-based fantasy MMO is something it keeps considering, the arrival of Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 making such more tempting than ever before. "It's certainly more interesting with the current generation of consoles of course because they're far more Internet-connected than the previous generation and it just wasn't worth looking at", the game's creator Andrew Gower told CVG recently. "But with the PS3 and Xbox 360 and the Wii, it's much more tempting, I have to say". Talking about PS3 specifically, Gower said that Jagex could probably get Runescape running on the machine right now, adding overall that "Technically porting the game to different platforms isn't a huge amount of work." However, he explained the reason the developer's "slightly reluctant" to bring the MMO to too many different platforms "is because the more platforms that we're on, the more we have to update in parallel and that would slow us down." "We've always tried to be a very agile company whereby if the players say they want something, or there's something not quite right, we'll fix it there and then", Gower said. "We're loath to lose the rapid response... that we've got at the moment, and the more platforms we go to the more than happens, so it's a bit of a trade off." Gower said there was nothing he could talk about at the moment regarding actual plans to bring Runescape to console. The game, which consists of both free and subscription versions, recently hit one million subscribers and boasts over 5 million active players. source Deviant Art Account2 Signatures | 6 Photographs | 1 Other
November 26, 200718 yr Mmmm some polls are just for fun. I don't ever seeing Runescape on a game console. :? Crusader
November 26, 200718 yr Aha, another thread speculating whether Runescape will ever work on consoles. As far as I remember from one of the other 5 or so, Java doesn't work on those consoles making it impossible for now? November 26, 200718 yr Well.. I think it can't be the summoning skill, since it is still under developpement. Perhaps Jagex are planning something that would surprise us :-k but I don't think that a console-version of RuneScape would be very interesting, even if it's online :shame: That would only increase the number of macroers (and geeks  ) NB: I think Java do works on some consoles (PSP?)

November 26, 200718 yr I know it's wildly speculative of me, what with the mild cryptic hints that Jagex have given us, but I think that the big update is summoning.... Thanks to Quarra for the awesome sig!Xbox360 Gamertag = Tintin113
November 28, 200718 yr Maybe its just me, but I think they dropped some tiny hints in the development diary that the big update was summoning. All against the new updates, don't log in!But I want to play... What if I log in, but put all my chats on 'off' so they don't know I'm on.
November 28, 200718 yr NB: I think Java do works on some consoles (PSP) No, Java is not on any console including the Psp, ds or iPhone. (tried it on all of them. __ I would like to see Runescape on consoles but i don't think they have enough employes to do that right and still run the company smoothly. They are already very busy as it is with the game running right now.
November 28, 200718 yr Why dont people FOR ONCE just go with the damn flow, instead of playing little journalists, and trying to figure out every single thing they are up to , as well as putting question marks on every action by them? Its getting lame.
November 28, 200718 yr Maybe its just me, but I think they dropped some tiny hints in the development diary that the big update was summoning. Yeah, it just hints a little bit. -.- That speck on the horizon we first mentioned in this month's Behind the Scenes is now a little closer. It's just about big enough to make out some writing on its side... What could it be? What does it say? And just what on RuneScape have wolpertingers got to do with it? All these questions and more are answered in today's brand new Development Diary (well, okay, maybe not the wolpertinger one just yet). There's no more news here. Just click here and read our new Development Diary!
November 28, 200718 yr They confirmed in the development diary that the BIG update is Summoning- Prepare for the laggiest game ever 2257AD.TUMBLR.COM
November 28, 200718 yr They confirmed in the development diary that the BIG update is Summoning- Prepare for the laggiest game ever I'm fairly certain they know of any consequences it may have and took it into consideration when designing Summoning, they even addressed the issue in the Diary... I doubt it will lag the game very much, if any at all.
November 28, 200718 yr this is fairly old i believe; i saw it over 6 months ago on a thread here... It is possible with the version of linux on the PS3 for RS to work, so long as Sony update that Version of linux with a Java (not of the question). And as far as your title goes... Yes, Jagex is always planning something cruel and sadistic to do to its members. It has a great working formula; simply by raising our hopes, then giving what could be a potentially brilliant update a nice catch. Look at duelling for instance... :uhh: :ohnoes: =D> Yeah...Some people just go out of their way to ruin other peoples fun.Sounds like Jagex to me...
November 28, 200718 yr I don't think it would happen unless there was a massive graphics overhaul which would mean a massive game engine overhaul.
November 28, 200718 yr I don't believe in that jagex will let Rs come out on a console. And they have already said that summoning is the big thing. Why would they try to trick ous? Add me if you so wish: SwreeTak
November 28, 200718 yr They confirmed in the development diary that the BIG update is Summoning- Prepare for the laggiest game ever Nice assumptions based on nothing. Jagex will surely have tested it thoroughly to make sure that the game works as lag free as possible, I highly doubt they'd put it in if it did cause huge lag. Anyway, back on Topic, what's to say they're going to move Runescape to another platform? Maybe they're just trying to get a general idea of what consoles etc. people own for future development of *gasp* future games that AREN'T Runescape.
November 28, 200718 yr They're just testing the grounds. If by example, they were considering putting Runescape on a console, a poll like this is a good method to know which consoles people own the most, and which kind of games they like. 2480+ total
November 28, 200718 yr Yes, you can run Ubuntu on a PS3. You can browse the web, watch youtube videos, so why not RS?
November 28, 200718 yr its not really bringing it to the next gen consoles, just making rune work on them.
November 28, 200718 yr Maybe its just me, but I think they dropped some tiny hints in the development diary that the big update was summoning. Tiny Indeed :P Listen to the mighty words of Bloodredsword. Tip it MGC Xbox live leader board!
November 28, 200718 yr maybe for ps3 since you can already browse websites, stream vids, and install programs on it. installing java on a console like the ps3 isn't really a longshot, but i don't see wii or 360 doing it. but like with fps that i play on pc and console, i'd much prefer the keyboard and mouse rather than controller because that's what i'm used to What?
November 28, 200718 yr as far as i remember you could pay rs on the psp as long as you could get windows 98 on it, ive seen it done and it runs pretty smooth Barrows Drops: Guthans Helm, Dharok Legs, Ahrims Hood
November 28, 200718 yr This is the message that appears after you vote. Many thanks for voting in this poll. Your votes will help us to find out more about what you do away from RuneScape, so we can bring a little more of what interests you to RuneScape.
November 28, 200718 yr NB: I think Java do works on some consoles (PSP) No, Java is not on any console including the Psp, ds or iPhone. (tried it on all of them. There goes my idea of playing RS on an iPod Touch at school. They WILL find a way to make it. Probably will release a "boxed" game containing RS or whatever, which has different programming than Java.
November 29, 200718 yr I don't thing Runescape will ever be on console. They could possibly develop something else for consoles, but most likely it would not be Runescape. --8727th person to achieve 99 Fishing on 8/19/2008----6012th person to achieve 99 Thieving on 10/12/2008--R.I.P.
