runescapeloser22
It was December of 2006, a year ago. All was well, I was getting A's on tests, understood all my homework, getting new levels everyday, making lots of money on Runescape. Then about 10 months later I got hacked, I quit. This year in school has been very difficult for me (8th grade), I've found it hard to concentrate while studying, doing homework, in class, ect. I'm beginning to think my success in school was linked to my playing of Runescape. I don't know how exactly, but ever since I quit I've been doing poorly in school, I only got one A on my report card this trimester, and got a C-, my lowest report card grade ever. As opposed to last year where I got all A's. I've noticed similar effects outside of school too, often times my mom tells me to do a list of things, she comes up to me and says something like, "Scott, can you go clean your room, do the dishes, and fold the laundry?" When I do that know, I always seem to forget what the next thing I have to do is, even if I try to remember, basically I think quitting Runescape has affected my memory too. You guys are probably thinking, "Oh, he's just not trying hard enough!" That's what my parents are saying too...[cabbage]. I try my hardest, and I've just found life a lot harder without Runescape in my life (wow I feel like such a nerd after writing that sentence  ). This may sound rediculous, and I noticed this change a long time ago, but finally made myself make a thread about it. Discuss?
highlanders
You don't seem to know why exactly it is your grades have dropped. You seem to think Runescape might have to do with it, but have you actually done some introspection to understand why your grades have dropped, or is this just some clueless guess because you have no idea why? 2480+ total

Pretty much yes, but I don't see any other reason as to why they would. warren211
Lol, runescape does the opposite for me than what it does for you. I can't concentrate on homework while thinking of runescape, and I certainly don't remember things to do after an hour or two on runescape. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. I own. http://linkagg.com/ Not my site, but a simple, budding site that links often unheard-of websites that are amazing for usefulness and fun. I doubt Runescape has to do with it. 2480+ total
xlippsx
In all honesty it is very doubtful that the two are related. It may be as simple as 8th grade is harder than 7th. No matter what it is, I highly doubt that playing Runescape could have a positive effect on your grades (unless you're playing Rs instead of WoW or some other more addicting game). Rcty
Well...Now what do you do in your free time instead of playing RuneScape? RuneScape can develop social skills and keeps you thinking while you're still doing something fun. If you're sitting on the couch watching TV, it's fun, but it's not making your brain do anything productive. ~Rcty Rcty
Adam007
Sounds like the only way it could have benefited your life would be indirectly, so my guess is that playing runescape structured your time somehow. Now that you've got extra time, you aren't properly managing it. That would be my only guess, because it just doesn't make any sense that the actual playing of that game would have any intellectual benefit, and if you imagine it to do so, you're creating a terrible placebo to live with. Junkie_Joe
Do you regret it? Do you regret the fact that you chose to quit? 'Cause if your mind's set on RuneScape, it's inevitable that the level of attention you're giving other activities (in your case school and chores) will drop. Vincent
its funny a lot of people that play runescape dont realise the amount of educational benefit it provides to those that would not be benefitting from this normally. in other words if it's a game you like you're going to learn; there's educational games but if the person thinks it's only for educational purposes that's "not cool" and it's "not as fun". the educational benefits are an added bonus or byproduct since it is something you enjoy doing. it's like a job is more than the means to pay your bills. the game is more than just entertainment; if teachers could put in their little educational commentaries into a game like runescape if they thought you'd play it then they would and in the process you'd also be learning. :D a lot of children's games and toys are designed like that; runescape is really no exception. surprise. one cool fact is you can use the ge as a calculator and no doubt runescape helps people learn english and also with math skills and probably logic development and time management etc. sure it's easy to say that that is all bunk and there isnt those benefits but in fact there really is. and its more fun then "studying". you should always do your homework; i know it sounds boring and all but the reason you're given homework is to help you learn the material and it will sink in. some subjects require intense study others more practice and some memorization. if you need extra help with a specific subject seek help; you'd be surprised how simple some stuff is if it's just explained the right way. good luck with your studies. anonymouse_
You do your homework in elementary school? But regarding your attention span/memory/whatever you wanna call it, RS pretty much gives you ADD  RS honestly doesn't affect my grades. I always aim for a certain mark range (90+ in high school, 80+ in university, who cares about elementary lol), and if I fall short, I just spend more time studying (I pretty much didn't study at all in high school, only a little gr 9 when I was scared lmao). Obviously you have to study in university to get an A, but now that I've quit RS, I have more time for schoolwork and friends (got a few 90s in some of my university exams already). It all depends on the person...what works for one won't work for someone else. You do your homework in elementary school? But regarding your attention span/memory/whatever you wanna call it, RS pretty much gives you ADD  I'm in Junior High, not elementary school  and Homework counts as 30% of my grade. In Canada we call it high school. Americans :shame:
