North Korea

Recommended Posts

Well I'm sure everyone has been hearing a lot of what's going on in North Korea these days. Apparently, Kim Jong is set to test his nuclear weapons, which the IAEA estimates he has about 6. If he goes through with it, could this potentially be a spark leading towards WWIII? How do you think the US will react? Bush is in Russia as of right now, any thoughts on that?

Just for reference sake: It's apparently not the IAEA that estimated this it was a UN chief.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-p ... 528011.stm

UN nuclear watchdog chief Mohammed ElBaradei has told US television his agency estimates that North Korea could have up to six nuclear weapons.

Inspectors for the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have been unable to verify the claim because they were kicked out of North Korea at the end of 2002.

But I have no idea what can be done if this is true (which it probably is) other than peace talks :?

my thoughts, Bush is gonna save us all, and the liberal media is gonna twist it into some kinda crap like they usually do, making him look like the bad guy, and further lowering their ratings..

Well, USA has nuclear bombs too haven't they. And North-Koreans might be communist country and don't know that much about it, but I don't think they are so stupid they would go blasting nuclear bombs. At that point they would get attacked and they know as well as we do that nuclear bombs have terrible consicuenses.

Funniest comment of the year.

korea has 6, america and who ever hates korea, or doesnt like the idea of them having nukes, i.e china and russia, have about 6000 nukes, ands thats no exaggeration. so if this korean moron was dumb enough to wanna seriously have a go, his country would be decimated in under a week, simple.

I hope the image will come up, if not, it will probably be a link or something.

That's a map of the Korean peninsula. See that country in dark green, right above North Korea? That would be china, the source of the vast majority of US corporation's products, and also known as the second superpower of the world. It is also the one country that the US is either afraid of now, or will be afraid of in the future. There is no way that bush will do anything that close to North Korea. I believe that China once promised to protect North Korea in the past (not sure though), and war with N. Korea, will also mean War with China, which will mean WW3, end of the world scenario. It won't happen. Either China or the US will realise this, and stop whatever testing they're doing.

If anything, Bush will allow China to deal with N Korea, and the USA will stear well clear if they know what's good for them.

Hmm..interesting idea. China vs US as a result from North Korean nuclear ambitions? Very possible.

Anyhow, Bush is in Red Square today for VE Day remembrances. Kind of odd don't you think? Bush sitting tight in Red Square amongst 27+ million Russians, who are veterans, meaning they are probably all commies

North Korea should be allowed to possess Nuclear weaponry. The country faces a very real threat from invasion, and hence should have a right to defend itself as it sees necesary.

Whether North Korea should have the system it does today or not is another matter entirely.

I thought that was South Korea? Not trying to sound patronisey or anything but they were the ones invaded during the Korean War weren't they? Feel free to show my ignorance btw :P

In any case you're right if we're to go by the standards of the "Western World" as it were, how they're allowed nukes and the others aren't. Fact is no-one should, but the day that happens is the day I become the Pope. Only 60 years to go ^_^

Quite near the date of the start of the Korean War all those years ago incidently, I hope I'm not tempting fate :?

Yes, South Korea was the defending country during the Korean War. However, even though South Korea is threatened by North Korea, North Korea is threatened by other countries. The Grand Moronmeister himself (You know, that president guy we all love) probably wouldn't mind invading them, and hence I don't see why we should limit how they can defend themselves.

Well, China and the United Nations (which the U.S. was a member of) did clash during the Korean War. After the surprise Inchon Landing, North Korea was getting pounded by the UN forces. The North Korean's retreated back up to Pyongyang (NK Capital) and China stepped in, mainly because China feared that if North Korea fell to the UN, then the Chinese border would be threatened also. The Chinese+North Koreans eventually drove the UN out of Pyongyang and North Korea and back down to South Korea, where the war remained a stalemate, and a treaty was signed.

So yes, going by the theory of 'history repeats itself', it North Korea was attacked by any hostile forces, chances are China will step in and defend that country. Because if NK falls, that's a fairly large chunk of their border exposed to invasion, and they won't like that :D

And yes, me and a classmate had to do a 50+ slide powerpoint on the Korean war

nobody would invade china, that would be political suicide...plus, i dun think any country or current alliance has the military power to invade and occupy any part of modern day china. current relations between north korea and china also are not at the same level as 50 years ago. although china is korea largest benefactor, it recently cut back economic supplies to north korea in order to pressure korea to abandon its nuclear program.

i dont think korea having nukes will lead to WWIII, but its making me uncomfortable cuz north korea's leader is a nutjob. theres no telling who he would use the nukes on. if they had another guy instead of kim jong (or wutever his name is) as the leader of north korea, id agree with wut pyro said: theyll need the nukes to protect themselves against invasion.

bin laden, multi-billionaire, head of the worlds' largest terrorist organization, isnt exactly easy to catch...

at least he caught saddam, give him credit for that. he is also doing a good job in the middle east, lots of countries are making steps towards democracy. there is alot of hype against him, but if you look at bush's years in office objectively, youll see hes done a decent job with foreign affairs.
