Personal defense

Sadly, were I live, the crime rate is extremely high. We all carry weapons(friends, parents, relatives). There are tons of gangs were I live(one gang lives in a friggin' house on my block), so I always have a knife on me. most of the time it's enough to scare them away. I have scares to prove that sometimes it doesn't though. I'm sorry to say that I've had to use my co2 BB gun on a stranger before. Probably saved my life. The thing is like, overpowered and I shot the guy in the face. Started screaming and ran away. Both my parents carry conceled guns. It's rough here. :/

I'm a high blue belt in Tae Kwon Do(Though should be brown(I was pulled out of it right before my brown belt test)) and a yellow belt in Kenpo. I know how to fight with a staff as well. Though I've never had to use any of these skills in real situations.

Though I never carry any of them with me, I own four swords, two shurikans, an axe, and a dagger, all of which stay in my room.

The crime rate in my area is very low so its very unlikely that I will run into trouble here, though its possible.

Is that even worth mentioning :| ? No offense, but did you just not like it or something and give up the second week?

And why the heck do you own shurikans o_O!?

They were raising the price of the tae kwon do school and my parents didn't want to pay for it anymore, they said they would wait til my belt test but ended up pulling me out before that for some reason.

Kenpo I just started it in october, they test you for your belt every 6 months, but I guess I just showed enough progress to do it after 2.

Both shuriken were gifts.

Well round where I live (anyone here from Newcastle, NSW, Aust.? If you are, you'll know what I mean. I live in Swansea, or "Swandale" as some call it after the rattiest suburb in Newcastle, Windale. I is now dominated by a big ang of derros called 2281 (the postcode). I am sort of in with some of em so I'm good, but I'm a pretty big guy and I box, so my self-defence is my right fist and my legs (to run :D).
Newcastle =P~

I don't need to carry a weapon i'm content with my body and hands. 6'0 215 pretty solid muscle will help. I've been in my share of fights as well. Although if someone were to come into my home it would be a diffrent story. My dad is a gun collector and although he doesn't live with me I keep a fully loaded 12 guage shotgun and Colt .45 handgun inside my room. If someone were to go into my fathers house though, phew, good luck.

I got nothing but a can of deodorant and I sure as hell carry it with the lid off with my finger on the feakin button while walking through dark scary parks to get home. It hurts more than anything, trust me I tried by accident :(

If you really use a can of deodorant as self-defence, you might as well carry a fire lighter with you. That hurts more.

Come here and let me test it out. First I'll light you up and then after I'll spray you in the eyes. Maybe, then I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ll even combine the two, causing you to be both blind and pretty much ablaze. Sound like a plan? :-k

I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning :) That's pretty much a weapon of destruction right there in its self.

In the way of weaponry, I think that martial arts training would fit well with a pair of blades similar to what Asuma has. Basically, some brass knuckles with edges on the front and a blade extending out the side about 5-6 inches. I tend to like baggy clothing a good bit more, so they'd be perfect for a coat weapon. If possible, I'd like to be able to use shuriken and kunai with proficiency as well. Those could be kept in a small leg container or in my coat, as well. And if all else fails, a handgun is pretty much considered as much a part of my body as my ear, with reflex-aiming to boot. \' I've always wondered why you'd need to have 2 hands to use a handgun. They should be usable with one if you are trusted to have one in public.

or you do any martial arts that could help you to get out of being mugged?

Yeah I'm actually taking Body Combat (self defence material arts) classes for it in my gym club :). I have learnt the basic moves so far 8-). It's very beneficial for me as a girl to prevent myself from being at risk, especially in England where there are loads of crimes around :anxious:.

I don't carry any weapons, I think in general they escalate situations rather than diffuse them. If push comes to shove, a lighter placed inside the fist will take most people out.

I have had the misfortune of being hit with loads of weapons though - Brass knuckles, baseball bats, hammers, golf clubs, bottles and very nearly a home made petrol bomb. Much of that was in one night!

What would a lighter inside of your fist do?

Hmm, I've always wanted to get in a fight and "test" out how strong I really am. I'll just go with my fists and legs. (The submissions I watched from wrestling could come in handy if the right position).

I was with my friend and he was robbed by a group of 6 teenagers once, He gave the money and we just walked away like wimps.

I live in a reasonably safe suburb in Illinois so being robbed hasn't really crossed my mind, but anything can happen.

As for self defense, I still remember some fairly simple take down maneuvers and submissions that coud probably work on an unarmed individual. But if I have a weapon, I'm pretty much dead if they assault me lol...

Thinking about buying a taser though :)

I don't need any defence.

I can run away. :P

Snap.

Little scraps when you're a kid are fairly harmless, but now at my age they tend to get messy fast, so there's no point. Running away is the best option. I used to practice Shotokan Karate, but gave it up when I got sick of all the katas and forms. If i'm honest it wouldn't do me that much good in a fight, the only martial art i'd consider learning again (and I am) would be Krav Maga, which is hyper-realistic.

I was just thinking: When you go out, do you carry any self-defence properties / or you do any martial arts that could help you to get out of being mugged?

I'm hardly scared of being mugged while I walk around the streets of Paris at 2 in the morning because I know Krav Maga.

It's an Israeli self-defensive martial art based on reflexes. I have done it for over two years now and I have learned how to block any punch, evade any kick, escape from any form of choke, escape from any form of grab, throw a proper punch/kick. I've also learned how to fight up against a wall, against 2 people, on the ground, against guns (short range), against sticks, against knives. And that's not even including all the specific reflex-training exercises or the arm-lock positions that I know.

As for what to use, well anything you have on you. A stick, coins, anything. Actually thanks to Krav Maga I have learned also how to use a pen to defend myself effectively.

you know, for a bunch of internet forum MMO players (at one time presumably) an awful lot of you apparently live in ghettos  .

For me - not a thing is needed, my home city is fairly safe and there's never any trouble at uni, safe as houses.

It makes your fist much harder. Try it out on a wall or something, you'll notice the difference.
