Necrobean
Somehow I had gotten into a discussion with a girl about greeting each other. She told me that it should be socially accepted that you could just give each other a quik kiss on the lips, just as a greet. I agreed with her on a slight base although it would be a bit akward and due to males being more... Sexually oriented, I can imagine that it would get pretty hard having a platonic friendship with a good-looking girl. Another difficulty would be boy- and girlfriends. I don't think anyone would like seeing him/her kissing someone else, even if they're best friends. Although jealousy (or whatever) in a relation is never good, I could believe that someone wouldn't like that. Even if it's innocent. Random: Another thing that she said was f I was a girl she'd do that anyday (We're best friends but due to reasons, she won't, reasons that I won't explain.) Darn it, I wish I was a girl ;) ! What's your opinion on this? ;>

Aka he should stop being an idiot and read the entire post before making a fool of himself.. On topic: I think it would be cool, but as a (quite jealous) guy I don't think it would work out so well. For one, my girl had best not be kissing other guys or we're gonna have a problem. Second, guys think of a kiss more sexually than girls and I can see that leading to some bad situations :P Internet Marketing For Newbies
venomai
Heh, yesterday something similar came up in a conversation I was having with a girl. We agreed that a boob grab should be a socially acceptable substitute for a hand shake. Honestly though, the variations are getting a little excessive. Props, high five, hand shake, hand grab up, hand grab down, hand shake and twist, hand shake to props, etc. Why can't we just stick to a simple "Hello"? :x
cheese666me
this reminds me of something i saw on tv why do you have to kiss them in the cheek as a greeting? why cant i just touch her boob while i say hi? Why even try with that idiot? Honestly, there is no point whatsoever. I'd get better replies if I argued with a tree stump.
Solidus_77
why do you have to kiss them in the cheek as a greeting? why cant i just touch her boob while i say hi? Heh, I always say hello to girls with a kiss on each cheek. That's considered "socially acceptable" in France. I know lips are a different story but whatever, shows that a simple kiss can be a simple greeting. All depends on the context of "socially acceptable". If I were in your shoes I'd say "why don't you show me instead of just tell me?". Evil_Sabre
I would definitely have a problem with it...unless the dude was gay or something (but that doesn't make sense). I don't want my girlfriend kissing any other guy but me.

warren211
You know the problem is so many people are prudes nowadays. They take kissing on the cheek as a greeting as sexually oriented, a public show of affection, and whatever nonsence conservative students come up with today. I'm of Pakistani and Indian heritage. We greet everyone, particularly our elders, with a kiss on the cheek. Whether they're men or women it doesn't matter. I see nothing wrong with it. when I go to a cultural gathering, the first thing the children and even teens do is go around greeting and cheek kissing every one there we know who's older than us. Growing up this way, I see nothing wrong with it and just because kissing is associated with passionate affection it no longer can be used in America or many other countries as anything less than "I want to love you passionately". Want to know something else you people might find strange? we call everyone older than us "Uncle" or "Auntie" whether they're related to us or not. its a sign of respect, just like in Spanish you use "usted" meaning "you" for your elders out of respect instead of "tu". Back on track, I see nothing wrong with cheek kissing, particularly for your elders. maybe for someone our age kissing a peer it's a bit awkward. But if I ever cheek kissed one of my parent's friends in front of my own non-pakistani friends, they'd probably call me gay or a pervert for the rest of my life. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. angryjoe
I can imagine that it would get pretty hard having a platonic friendship with a good-looking girl. Pun intended? I'm so immature. Anyway, I probably wouldn't kiss a girl on the lips as a greeting, cheek is fine but I would be worried that I was giving off the wrong impression if I kissed someone on the lips in a non messing about kind of way. But if two people feel comfortable doing it as a greeting, there really isn't a problem.

A kiss on the cheek is a common greeting all across Europe regardless of age or sex. It's not really done at all in the UK though. Not sure whether it could just be attributed to british reservedness.
aquariusman
I personally would find it acceptable, but really only for single people, because of jealousy and such. My only problem would be if the person was short :uhh: P.S. Testing new signature, needs a few teaks in wording... There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. Thatregret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new, better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret. It's experience. Dragonwizerd
It should be acceptable. I'm not sure how I'd react to a guy kissing me on the cheek/lips though. (can't really explain well, but I meant I don't know if I'd be homophobic about it, or just not want to take the ridicule from friends.) Yayyyyyy... Giordano
I'm in the direction where Warren is going to. As of Argentine decent myself, we Argentines greet each other with a kiss to the cheek, male or female. Its the norm. It is just that in America (for the most part) you guys have different customs and traditions than in other places where greeting-kisses are acceptable. There isn't really a right or wrong answer here, but you must realise the United States has its own culture as well. InkofDeath
I wouldn't be able to handle my GF kissing another guy, it would just cause way too much paranoia, even if it was on the cheek. I'd go berserk. I don't think our civilization could handle it, nor is ready for it in it's current state.

They take kissing on the cheek as a greeting as sexually oriented, a public show of affection, and whatever nonsence conservative students come up with today. I know, it's kind of... Weird. A lot of western cultures, at least in the modern age after 1990, have some dumb obsession with sex and associating every impulse with it. My other half of the family is from southern Europe and it's perfectly normal to kiss a person on the cheek when you come to their house for a visit, especially if they are your cousins. It's paying respect and friendship/family bond, there is NO other aspect to it. And I'd say that's much more natural. Geez, sometimems I just think many (mainly white) cultures have been badly corrupted by sex and trying to make everything in life about it, at least the younger generations. If it were two GIRLS, which is what your words first made me think, then it could be acceptable. Although a kiss on the cheek would be a lot less awkward. As for a girl and guy kissing as a casual greeting and them not going out? They'd have to be really really really good friends. I like the french and other cultures where they kiss on each cheek. I don't like hugging casual friends, because having breasts makes it feel a little too intimate. Like I'm just pressing my chest at people. I don't know. Returned3
You guys are all so lucky that you're not from Singapore. Get snapped kissing a girl in your school uniform, and its the news headlines for you. Get caught kissing a girl in your home clothes, and everyone will stare as if you are in the wrong. Get caught kissing a girl at school, the whole class will make a big deal outta it and some teachers even cheer on. 00:00:0500:00:0400:00:0300:00:0200:00:0100:00:00 Break the Walls down!
