If a Dragon Pickaxe were to be implemented into Runescape...

Featured Replies

I guess jagex made the varrok armor like that becase they didnt want to make mining rune too easy.

Edit: And if you think about it a dragon axe that adds 15% speed and varrok armor that increases productivity by about 10%...having both of those would make the skill way too easy.

What would actually happen is...

It would be a rare drop from a monster that is imposible to camp at, therefore making it another useless item like the dragon full helm because of its price.

It would not affect mining because the skill would remain mundane and simply boring. People would not go out of there way to get this item because unlike woodcut, mining is a horrible skill that hasn't been updated in the last 5 years.

I think lots of people would disagree with you there and say that it would be well worth the money to make mining easier. And they have added quite alot of new mining sites and...varrok armor. I dont know how they aren't updates that have effected mining.

gypsyeater.png

well, if we look at woodcutting, with the GE we can see what would probably happen.

Maples were 100 ea, now 40 ea, so caol, iron, all the ores up to mith will drop alot, above mith will drop abit,

people will smith more, so bars will drop, more cballs, they'll drop,

everyone will use cannons, meaning training will be harder, slower, and therefore, monster specific items will rise.

It would change alot, but im always for change.

Current goal: 94 mage (85).

Proud owner of Quest cape, While guthix sleeps completed 3rd january 2009.

Mining won't change that much in my opinion.

Requirement to wield would probably be 70 or 80.

It would definitely be from a quest. Mining is the oldest most practical skill in the game. It's far too simple to raise, and Jagex is really against buying the top items.

The quest would probably resolve around Keldagram (sp?), and something about unearthing a new part of the town that was demolished or something...their testing technology was lost in there as well. That's probably going to be the storyline.

After or if it did get released, it would have to be 2x as good as the rune pickaxe to be worthwhile, and dramatically change mining. 0.5 hit for an iron ore? 1.5 hits for coal? 3 hits for mith? 12 hits for rune? I doubt it.

It wouldn't affect the skill and its products hugely I don't think.

You'd either have a huge pricetag from a hard monster drop or it would actually be pretty poor as a result of a quest reward, which would you want?

I don't think it would affect prices too much as I don't think there would be a sudden rush of players to the ores, WC is by far a more popular skill and people making skillers or new players will almost always head for the trees over the rocks which is one reason we can see the price drop in logs.

I think its about time it was released. It wont be a lot faster than a rune pick mainly because it will still be one ore per rock ;)

vansing.png

it wouldn't change that much i think, mining is still boring, even with dragon pickaxe.

Eindhoven_by_Sadocles.jpg

I would hope the starting price is ten times what you said. 25 mil sounds appropriate

it wouldnt affect much because nobody mines anyway. the pickaxe will also be cheaper than the dragon axe because nobody will really buy it except for hard out miners

Money_Wasted.png

You just contradicted yourself, unless you where being sarcastic ... I would buy one even though im not a "hard out miner".

gypsyeater.png

It'd make rune rocks even more crowded :|

And yes, ore prices would drop, quicker ores = more ores.

And it doesn't matter if the pick doesn't do a lot, if Jagex says it does, people will follow.

Yes and mining effects much more things than just how much afew particular items are, it effects all the armor and weapons that can be made using smithing and quite afew of the crafting items. So therefore It would change moastly every armor that F2P has. As in cheaper weps and armor. Cheaper amulets and quite afew other (or mainly all) enchanted jewellery. Not to mention the reduction of several ranging items such as knifes, arrows and darts and cannon balls. It may also effect construction in terms of how much steel bars cost and nails.

gypsyeater.png

i still wouldn't mine. i don't care about the d axe either. it's just not worth the money to me.

Lmao, yeah a 15% increase (similar to D WC) really balances out to be 25 mil. :wall:

Requirement to wield would probably be 70 or 80.

All Dragon Reqs are 60......

How much did the D axe cost when it first came out?

gypsyeater.png

I would definitely love that. :D Mining is one of my favourite skills, and a dragon pick would just make it even better. :)

Blakdragon39.png

D axe was 10m when it first came out.

I would hope that the Dragon Pick would enable high-level miners (80+) to one-click coal, similar to iron.

td2sig.jpg

I'm sure that exactly the same thing would happen as what happened when the dragon hatchet came out. It would be incredibly overpriced for its benefits.

I can see links to the Red Axe (Not too subtle is it?) series, but they won't release it without guarding it with some kind of ridiculously powerful boss monster which can only be attacked with pickaxes or something.

Actually, now that I think about it, a small boost in mining speed could be worth a ton.

On lower leveled ores, it's almost always a set amount of time, but still a "one hit". Try mining an iron ore, and then try a piece of clay. You'll see what I mean.

If iron ore was sped up by just a tiny increment, it could make tremendous boosts in exp per hour.

Woodcutting is something that can't be perceived as clearly as this, so we can't really tell that there's much of a boost going on. But if the pick were to speed up all mining a bit, it wouldn't be very noticeable at all on higher leveled ores, but on iron in particular, it would be amazing.

Hm. Does a d axe cut normal trees any faster than a rune axe? This would be a way to find out if Jagex would follow this hypothesis.

well, if we look at woodcutting, with the GE we can see what would probably happen.

Maples were 100 ea, now 40 ea, so caol, iron, all the ores up to mith will drop alot, above mith will drop abit,

your wrong also remember you can get 40 logs from a tree but only 1 ore from a rock, mining will still be slow so the price wont drop

Dragon Drops: 5 medium helmet, 3 left shield half

Obby: Maul 1, Cape 1, Shield 1

I'm going to predict that there will never be a Dragon Pickaxe. In one of the books you had to read during the TokTz-Ket-Dill quest, there is a mention of an Obsidian Pickaxe.

I'm guessing that it will be a drop from some kind of TzHaar monster.

The dragon picaxe is the most important dragon item just in frontof a dragon warhammer.I think I_Had_A_deal(cant remember name exactly sorry) mentioned that tin you can mine in a hit and iron in 2 and a dragon pick would allow iron to be done in a hit and tin in half which increases the viability of powerleveling on iron and maybe even mithril.

The dragon warhammer is important because it would eb a tremendous upgrade over the dragon mace and the lack of crush weapons is apparent. The dragon plate can wait...bring us a dragon pick and warhammer.

I don't remember that poll and I looked in the Poll archive and didn't see anything about it. It was prly a Tip.it Poll that you remember. But I doubt it'll effect it that much because no matter what some people hate mining and the fact they can't AFK it.
