Yarr, matey! Be ye fergettin' the role-playin' value of a good costume, ye lily-livered landlubber? Now me right hand I lost to a shark, aye. Tried to catch it with me hands, but I was on'y 95 fishin' at the time. Yarr, blood everywhere. Not pretty, nay. An' me hook I got after a tragic fletchin' accident. Me hand slipped. Hard to hold a knife in a crab claw, ye see. An' the patch, well, I splashed a bit o' water in me eye. Not so bad norm'ly, but 'twas me first day with the hook. Now I be knowin' better'n to be rubbin' me eyes all the time.

i feel like i have to log into rs, imagine i can't wear my quest cape or hood, get my knife and a few logs, go to this troacctid as if he's an npc, and then do whatever he says until he finally realizes that i'm NOT doing a quest and that i just got it in my head that after reading his hilarious dialog that i HAD to do one because he sounds so much like a random pirate from the rocking out quest.

anyways.

yes role playing is "i guess" important. i find it strange you found it ok to have a crab claw on one hand and a hook on the other. just a tad bit strange. i also found it a tad odd you can manage to weild an axe to cut wood even though you have both erm... arms "occupied". i'm not funny so don't criticize. you can make it a role playing arguement all the time with this because really-- who would go around wearing dragon platelegs with black cav hat with a blue mystic top along with purple flowers. it just doesn't flow or make sence. everything (usually) i see people wearing makes sence. people wearing full dragon makes sence, full bandos,3rd age, or blue h'ween mask with blessed dragon hide. what you wear makes sense. i can see your trying *are* to be a pirate. it's like acting like you didn't hear thunder. you heard it and it rattled everything around you.

since i don't want to be flamed i have to say not all. so most people are arrogant with things like the way they look. i have friends multiple thousands of dollars in debt and i see where most of it went. purses they haven't worn in a year, clothes etc. BUT IT MAKES THEM LOOK GOOD. LIKE O M GEH. people like that i see day to day and then when i go on rs to "escape" that it smacks me in the face with these people wearing full dragon, *your color here* party hat etc. you know the list.

for the record- i'm not poor but my parents aren't made of money so no i don't get whatever i want whenever. what i do get i don't ask for. my most expensive shirt is about.... 20 dollars? it's a yankees shirt. i'm not counting my authentic yankees shirt my mom bought. long story. i don't wear it. so very long story please don't force me to tell it lol.....

I don't really care if I look good. I don't really care what other players think of me.

I only wear armour and weapons to fight with. And if I don't fight, I just take them off, they're weight is useless anyway. ::'

The only thing I see as lame is flared trousers and a gnome scarf. I totally hate the flared emote.

EDIT: Or Dlegs and Verac Brassard. Or 90% of the people in W100 Varrock.

What you wear should also be useful to a certain extent in combat imo.

I'm usually in d'hide with a bow or c'bow, looks clean and still useful if i get attacked by a random that I'm not paying attention to.. <3:

.. When I was younger and started RS, I thought having the best possible material possessions (be it online, or the real world) is an end-it-all ultimate meaning to life. Do everything in your power to wear expensive clothing, rolex watches, a big mansion and a Ferrari, then you're set for life and 'finished'... In RS, always have the latest 'expensive' items and equipment even if they only give a marginal edge.

As I gain age I see how pathetic it is to be obsessed too much with materials, especially PIXELS in a little 2mb java game. Ok, money, currency matters everywhere you go (including the online world, heck, you can't even be online if you don't pay for access, unless you're in a library all the time)... But money is just a tool, it's not a god you worship.

And in real life, you'll see sooner or later.. Yes, richness does count, but you as a human define yourself. A person with 10 lamborghinis and no 'essence' (he does nothing in life except spend money, to rougly compare.. Like Paris Hilton) will be viewed as less interesting than a person who has actually done something with his/her life.

meh, i dont play much anymore, i just spend all mai cashiez on looking good, trousers,3ra melee top, gnome scarf, cavmask, dboots, funfunfun

i agree with you, but looking good is also a part of this game... because all that peoples see of you is your avatar, and if that is ugly, then what will they think of you?

The way I see it, Runescape has two elements: The MMO element, and the RPG element. Even though they usually effect each other, they're two very different things. The MMO element is obviously the players - your friends, to be precise. That's probably the main reason people play Runescape. Friends can help you with quests and challenges, play minigames with you, and chat. I mean, who wouldn't want that? We're a social species.

Then there's the RPG aspect. Ultimately, almost anything we do in the game is to gain money. You raise your skill levels to be able to fight bigger monsters, make better items. Then, you sell the drops and goods, and gain money. Sure, there's a strong sense of achievement, but I really doubt anyone would work towards that bandos chestplate if all chest items looked exactly the same. It would help you fight bigger monsters, but who cares, if nobody knows what they're wearing, or what they're fighting?

With all this said, however, I can usually be seen wearing rune armour and boots of lightness, with a dragon scimitar. That in itself is an invitation for ridicule at level 107.

I don't understand why people wear their full rune/other armour while skilling. It adds more than 50kg to your weight, and slows you down, especially when mining and fishing. I usually just wear gloves, boots, and an ammy, and get called a noob. -.-

Strangely, somehow I always manage to outrun everyone else back to the bank ::'

so alex lets say hypothetically for some strange event that jagex lost control of everything and by some huge gust of wind the only monsters that could drop dragon skimmys were chaos elementals. the monkey shop in ape atoll wouldn't sell them anymore and no one would own one anymore.

lets erase the facts that, yes, there are weapons better than the dskim but HEY granite plate is way better than dchain and it's got about a few millions difference. ok now. what would happen? this once whatever sword is now quite possibly the rarest item in rs for a few days. every one has had one if they've beaten monkey madness, it's only about 95k which is not that much money. but after the riot in fally would you still want that even though theres many other swords that are better, more economical, and easier to get? i doubt it. unless you had maybe nothing better to do in terms of the game and said wth it's only going to lose maybe 10m in worth in 2 weeks.

what i'd do is just go to heroes guild or the ge and buy myself a dlong. i wouldn't care in the least

the "mmo element"--- either i read it wrong or you didn't say anything at all that tried to oppose or agree to my argument. i guess your trying to say that because we have friends and such in this game that we want to look "good" with them?..... i have no clue.

People don't by 26 inch rims for their brand new Escalade for the extra gas mileage it gives the truck. Just sayin.

Ask yourself this - would you go around looking like a slob in town today? You wear what looks nice and gives comfort at the same time. Granted we can't really tell if something is comfy in RS or not, but we wear what goes together on the color wheel and looks unique.

Thats my input. :D

It just goes to show that, though there's an age requirement, there's no IQ requirement to play RS.

if i could afford an escalade the last thing i'd do is buy one, let alone get 26 inch rims on them. i'd probably buy me a tv that makes television look pretty cool. i'd get a computer that isn't such a pos and give some monay to my dad. yeah. wouldn't go on a car. you'd find me wearing a red champions shirt with a hole on the left arm of it with canyon river blues carpenter pants. that's what i'm wearing now and my dad just got a 22% raise from his job. he's a civil engineer and has a 5 bedroom house. you think that he goes around with large rims and a flashy pair of american eagle unmentionables? no he doesn't. the most he's ever done is buy an audi a8 99' as a weekend car because he sold his other one to my brother. but the thing is he uses it. not like a santa hat where you can use that to go ummm.... get into that great ol' dungeon that's near ummm.... the volcano in level 50 wildy? you get the point. as one said before "...I see how pathetic it is to be obsessed too much with materials, especially PIXELS in a little 2mb java game."

Lol rhetorical question. Calm down. I could care less of what you would do with 80k in real life and I didn't ask for your fathers life story.

Because it... looks nice....... and.... is comfy?

argh. i know i answered the rhetorical question but i didn't answer it in the way that you (might have?) wanted. does a hole in your shirt look good when you have it? not really... but it's only a 1 inch hole and it's on the bottom of my sleeve and it doesn't make the shirt any worse or better than the ones w/o holes. maybe makes me look a little more apathetic towards how i look but i couldn't care less about how people judge me. by the way these champions shirts are nearly the exact same shirts you find at foot locker for i think the same exact price. rawlings makes the same shirts too. i feel dumb for having said that but again- apathetic. right now i can't get this stupid futon to go into "bed mode" from the "couch mode" and it's driving me insane. can't go to sleep and it's 2:17 am. -.- tierd.

So what? If thats what people want to do, they can do that. Irl, I LOVE Chuck Taylor All Star high-top shoes. They're like 70$ shoes, when I could easily get look-alikes for like 10 bucks. But do I? no. :P I think it's just a mentality of being human. Them dressing how they want to dress will not hurt you, or anyone else for that matter.

I really hope you are all joking right? Please be joking? Its a GAME, you can look like a 1970's model wearing lycra and no-one would care

:shame:

just so u know ur opinion might be this but alot of people do care

i do care its like a few years ago i played sims i had to dress up my character to my liking its just fun

most video games that u create a character they let u dress them up and thats fun to alot of people so why should this game be different

i dont spend millions on outfits but i find stuff that match my skillcapes thats are remotely cheap

if you've got the money, why wouldn't you want to flaunt it? i love splashing cash on clothes IRL, i don't see what the point in not making the most of my life is. granted, if you want to cheap out at the cost of looking a little more shabby, so be it, there just really isn't any point at all in doing so.

Ok, the fact of the matter is that all of the things we're bashing for just being show-off items, do in fact serve another purpose. Sure, a rune platebody and a gilded platebody have the same stats, but if you do actually want one opposed to the other, and you have the money, then there is nothing wrong with that. It may generally be for looks, but it has another purpose as well, what with having the same stats as regular rune.

I'm not really going to agree with buying an item just for the sole purpose of showing off. Again, if it has combat-worthy stats, then it's intended purpose, first and foremost, is getting beat up in it.

Yeah, but not in the 'rich' way. I typically wear my tri-jester hat and fighter boots just because they look nice. I might be wearing a rune chain, kite, and scimmy too, but to me the weapons/armor doesn't matter, it's if you like what you're wearing.
