June 30, 200818 yr Can I say the pop-"sex" genre too? It's hardly music, and the 'sex' bit takes priority over what little music there is. Also, if underground rap is better, would the kind you'd hear on the radio count as a genre? I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr
June 30, 200818 yr Funny, how many blatant generalisations and stereotypes people are willing to make about genres like rap. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
June 30, 200818 yr Funny, how many blatant generalisations and stereotypes people are willing to make about genres like rap. Stereotypes exist for a reason, you know. Although a lot of the hatred towards rap is of the bandwagon nature to dismiss it would be ill-advised. I used to listen to rap, more of us did than are willing to admit it. I personally grew out of it, but love hearing some of the classic songs that defined my high school days from time to time. When I hear rap on the radio now, it disgusts me. And this is coming from someone who could tolerate Lil' Jon and the down south rappers of the last 5 years. Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King....

Yeah, they exist because people are too lazy to look outside the bounds of what's on the radio or what is popular.
June 30, 200818 yr whereas every other rapper has some annoying beats in the back and all they say is "YUUUUUUUUUU!!!" You really listened to what every other rapper has to say? Sorry, but then you must be mentally handicapped in some way. Otherwise it is impossible to miss so many things. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
July 1, 200818 yr I, honest to god, never really listened to rap. Besides the few occasional song or two, I never really got into it.
July 1, 200818 yr I can't really stand rap either. I HAVE listened to it. It just sounds all the same to me. And even when there's an ORIGINAL song, it's just about an Afro-American guy (srsly though, it's like rap is just for Afro-American people, excluding the few unpopular people that are white rappers) who just brags about how many girls he can get and how rich he is and how many times he goes to the pub and gets laid. I also can't stand teen pop rock e.g. The Jonas Brothers. Seriously, don't try teen pop. It's just a super-deformed mock-version of real rock'n'roll.
July 2, 200818 yr Punk, Rap, Hiphop, R&B, Emo, Pop, Reggae, Metalcore, Grindcore, Black Metal, Techno, Jump, Dance, Electro 99 Slayer since August 2007.
July 2, 200818 yr Punk, Rap, Hiphop, R&B, Emo, Pop, Reggae, Metalcore, Grindcore, Black Metal, Techno, Jump, Dance, Electro you mean black metal as in cradle of filth, dimmu borgir "black metal" or as in true black metal? Why even try with that idiot? Honestly, there is no point whatsoever. I'd get better replies if I argued with a tree stump.

Omg, totally forgot about that one. :wall: :wall: Also need to add the whole American Idol Stars onto my dislike list. Whenever the next American Idol is crowned, they immediately start playing his/her song on the radio non-stop even if it's [cabbage]!! Meh...half of the winners never make it big anyways. July 3, 200818 yr I listen to Hardstyle the most, but i listen to pop, rap,... quite often. I don't like reggae, house, country, ... etc though :S. Some people dream of success, while others make it happen.

July 3, 200818 yr Funny, how many blatant generalisations and stereotypes people are willing to make about genres like rap. You're on the Tip.It "Music, Movies, and Television" boards, did you expect any different? I sure didn't. Next to NOBODY on this forum have actually listened to rap, or given it a chance. You can tell just by what people are saying. "All they do is rap about money, clothes, women, and they're all African American". The last one is just totally ignorant, but the former just SHOWS they don't know Talib Kweli, Common, Nas, any of those guys. MTV and the radio aren't hip-hop. It's like saying My Chemical Romance or Panic at the Disco are rock. Rap covers topics as broad as any other genre, I'd love to see someone to prove me otherwise. I can't even see how this topic got this far. These are always just undercover "Let's bash rap and country" threads.

A lot of the bashing is of the bandwagon variety, people just hate on it because everyone else does. Now that doesn't mean its not justified, since the majority of rap fits the general stereotype people pit against it. There is some good rap, but trying to defend the entire genre using just a few honorable artists is a losing battle. Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King....

I sure disagree, others more older ones or the more "underground" artists are pretty awesome. Yes, nobody even listens to the good rap. Ah well, nothing to do about it. ;>

Most rock sucks. A lot of music does suck.

There is some good rap, but trying to defend the entire genre using just a few honorable artists is a losing battle. Don't get me wrong, there is quite the fair share of bad rappers who are out for nothing more than a ringtone sale. If you look over hip-hop's 30-year history, the good does outweigh the bad. Trust me. But if you look at hip-hop's current generation (which I would say is about '98/'99-now), the bad does outweigh the good. It depends on what scale you look at it on. But these stupid generalizations are just utterly disgusting. For real, nobody goes to MTV to find out about a genre, so why would do the same for rap and hip-hop? If I ask someone on this board to help get into metal, or alternative, the last places they're gonna point to are MTV or the radio. Agreed but why does everybody seem to say that Nas is good? I sure disagree, others more older ones or the more "underground" artists are pretty awesome. Yes, nobody even listens to the good rap. Ah well, nothing to do about it. Ey, Nas is my favorite my rapper buddy. 8-) I like Nas because the wide amount of topics he's covered, his crazy lyricism and storytelling abilities, and his ability to make good albums (ignore Nastradamus and Street's Disciple for a second :P ). Besides, he made 3 of my favorite albums ever, Illmatic (widely regarded as the greatest hip-hop album EVER, the first album to recieve 5 mic from The Source, before it became corrupt), It Was Written, and Stillmatic.
July 3, 200818 yr I, honest to god, never really listened to rap. Besides the few occasional song or two, I never really got into it. You need to find the right artist, my latest one got killed in 1996 (I was 5) My pure's stats: str:70attc:35def:4range:72mage:70hp:70
July 4, 200818 yr Mainly the whiny rich teenager crap that's fairly popular these days. Or things like the Jonas Brothers, can't stand them. A lot of the whiny crap that I hate has good instrumentalists, just God-awful vocalists, so I try to find instrumental versions to listen to. I don't mind the general genre of rap. I hate the hardcore gangster stuff though. Unless it's absolutely hilarious to me. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
July 4, 200818 yr People have made some good points on this thread, namely that it's kind of stupid to hate a genre. It's way too much of a generalisation. Do I hate some bands? Sure, I hate some metal bands, some pop bands, some rap artists, some country bands, some R&B artists, some rock bands, etc, etc. Saying you hate a genre is way to general and would suggest that you have heard all of the artists of that genre to make an accurate comment.
July 4, 200818 yr Dislike Rap Really hard Metal Classical Stuff like R&B, Country, Techno, Reggae, etc I can listen to an extent. Quit RuneScape :)
