July 11, 200818 yr I recall seeing a rant about this a couple years ago, may have been on another fan site. I will recreate the general idea, as it bothers me whenever I think about it. I've noticed a change about the updates Jagex brings us. The change has been so gradual, that most of us probably haven't noticed it. Not about the updates themselves, but about how they present them. I was browsing the news archives from 2002-2003, and comparing the updates to those of today, I realized that Jagex seems to be giving us too much information. I mean, when a new monster, quest, area, etc. is released, they tell us exactly where it is. They tell us what level it is. They tell us how to do it. They tell us what we unlock. Here's the news quote for when the King Black Dragon was released: King Black Dragon (Members' monster) The most fearsome monster ever to venture into Runescape has now... err... ventured into Runescape. So for all you plucky young upstarts, take a break from emailing customer support and pit your wits against the deadliest beast to date! More prudent types might just want to gaze at him from afar. Of course you'll have to find him first "You'll have to find him first." They don't even tell us the general location of it, let alone any other information. How exciting and unexpected would that be, walking into some cave and surprise! The strongest monster in the game is awaiting your arrival. Compare this to our modern holiday events. They release a detailed guide telling you exactly what to do, how to do it, different ways to do it, why you do it, and the rewards for doing it. They aren't leaving us enough to figure out on our own. Sure, there's still a ton for us to figure out, such as how to kill the new monster, the required items for the new quest, and where that danged clue scroll leads you to, but think about what they are giving us? Finding something. That could be a very difficult, challenging, and adventurous task. But the adventure is taken out when they tell us where it is! Rewards sections! They tell us exactly what we will receive when we complete the quest! How to do something. I'm glad they didn't go overboard with that, leaving it only to holiday events and certain other things. Does anybody else here think that Jagex should leave more of the surprises secret, so they can be, well.... Surprises! After all, the adventure in being an adventurer is discovering things and figuring them out.
July 11, 200818 yr You are onto something. They really should just generalize what they are going to do and let us figure it out. It takes the suprise out of it.
July 11, 200818 yr I agree with you, and this has been one of my latest complaints. These "BTS" give us way too much info and sap the fun and thrill right out of it. I'd prefer it if our updates were given to us in anagram format, as such we'd have to figure it out before next week. Even then, keep it so that little information is given in the actual anagram. :D Linux User/Enthusiast | Full-Stack Software Engineer | Stack Overflow Member | GIMP User...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago.
July 11, 200818 yr We can try to bring this to their attention on RSOF. Then again, we can do our part by just taking a quick glance at it. Actually, now that I think of it I don't think anyone would only be able to read a few sentances.
July 11, 200818 yr I agree, the surprise is part of the fun. I remember wandering around for hours to find this event and that event, but then eventually someone leaked it. It made it way more fun to not give us all the details, but giving us enough without being cruel. 99 Fletch~~99 WC~~79/81 Fishing87/94 Magic~~84 RangeEtha! Actually, now that I think of it I don't think anyone would only be able to read a few sentances. Exactly, it's there and I'm sure we all have the mentality that everyone else reads it, so we don't want to be left out. I loved that excitement from the Construction Skill. It came out of nowhere, and everyone got excited about it.
July 11, 200818 yr well you could just stop looking at the guides. not like your forced to look at them  should be easy i did it -.- My private chat is always ON.Winner of The Tip.It Teamcape Outfit Contest!6 years. 1 dragon CS drop and some barrows, bad luck?
July 11, 200818 yr When the Chaos Elemental came out, all we knew was it was in the wild and that it had a new weapon. It didn't come out till later that it had a D2h. I like surprises.
July 11, 200818 yr Actually, that would be really awesome, if they just didn't tell us where next boss monster they release is located :ohnoes:

July 11, 200818 yr A lot of people complain when information isn't given ahead of time. My guess is many more than those who want to be surprised. Also, considering the popularity of fan sites, the information is going to proliferate quickly anyway. If you'd personally like to be surprised, it's not that hard to avoid reading the release messages. Maxed total levelsRemaining for Completionist Cape: Livid Farm spell (Borrowed Power)
July 11, 200818 yr Author well you could just stop looking at the guides. not like your forced to look at them  should be easy i did it -.- Well that's an obvious one. First off, they release a lot of information in the news announcement. They tell part of the reward, for example. Do you expect us to read the first few sentences and be done with it? Also, many people are lazy and resort to spoilers when they get stuck. If we were to just plain cut down on the spoilers, people would be forced to figure some things out on their own.
July 11, 200818 yr I do agree with you. It was so much more fun when we knew nothing about the update. It was fun finding out something that not many others knew and running off to tell them.
July 11, 200818 yr I guess they figured that most people, when there was no information on the main site, would just go find the spoilers on a fan site ASAP. Therefore, they aren't really doing anything more than changing the medium through which the majority of players receives this information.
July 11, 200818 yr When the Chaos Elemental came out, all we knew was it was in the wild and that it had a new weapon. It didn't come out till later that it had a D2h. I like surprises. A bumper update week this week, starting with the arrival of a new visitor to the Wilderness. This strange cloud is said to affect nearby enemies in various strange ways so be even more prepared for the unexpected than you were before. Please do remember that this evil menace is located deep in the multi-way wilderness, so care must be taken. Dont take anything youre not prepared to lose. We can confirm that this Chaos Elemental carries a few of the legendary Dragon two-handed swords, but dont expect an easy fight. The blade has also been seen being carried down to the Kalphite lair, so if youre really really lucky, you might find one down there. yeah they said nothing about d2h  always check your facts ;) also lalala is right i remember we where in noobs to our neck when opdates come out  now we dont have that problem at all  (unless on big opdates like graphic and such) @ tim finch: that 100% selfish just because a minority wont no spoilers then we have to take them away. you could just stop being lazy and dont read more then needed. if you wont to you dont have to see spoilers in opdates, if you wont it raw read the headlines and go on doing quests.(try mep2 with no guide). point is: just because 100 people here and 1k on rsof donsent wont spoilers donsent mean that 900k other members should be punished. if you get a majority of players to agree with you then we can remove them, but right now you are a minority ;) let the flamers fall upon me and i shall roast them in their own fire! July 11, 200818 yr Just a quick note, (hope no one has mentioned this) remember that JaGeX added all these extensive guides about their updates due to the fact that people Spammed up the ROSF like crazy when a new update came out asking for details, locations, drops, requirements...etc... What i have noticed with the community is that runescape is divided into Three. those who support the updates, those you SERIOUSLY hate the updates, and those you don't really give a rats [wagon]...like me. i just go with the flow... JaGeX can never, and will never make everyone happy so they just listen to some suggestions/rants people make and come up with something that they think will be in between. In conclusion: you can't really blame jagex...Spamming of ROSF just wanted to throw that out there : [Thank you very much Skull_Emblem For the Beutiful Sig And Jopie for doing the Text]

July 11, 200818 yr Of course you'll have to find him first Yeah its real exciting until you aimlessly walk into a cave and get pwned in 2 hits. That would kinda tick me off. But still you bring up a good point.

It would be the same as before, ppl would resort to fansites such as tip.it. now jagex is just giving the information in an "official" manner. lulz wut?

July 11, 200818 yr Actually, that would be really awesome, if they just didn't tell us where next boss monster they release is located :ohnoes: Yes exactly! "btw with the new area in the gwd there are new bosses, I wonder where they could be." That'll work for sure. Of corse not noing some things would make it more fun. P.S. that was just an example, jagex is not bringing out a new area of the gwd (yet). Ponies!
July 11, 200818 yr YES! all the way 200% i agree i would have made this myself but but you got to it first yay good point
July 11, 200818 yr I agree, it would be more exciting to be surprised. As for how bosses should be, i wish they could respawn at any location in Runescape...
