July 11, 200818 yr We can try to bring this to their attention on RSOF. Then again, we can do our part by just taking a quick glance at it. Actually, now that I think of it I don't think anyone would only be able to read a few sentances. Yes, take it to the RSOF where you will be thusfore attacked by immature 12 year olds with horrible spelling attempting to be cool with lines such as: "Butz tehn i wunts b able 2 kn0 h0w 2 do anyting wit teh new update!!1111" cause they don't care about adventure they want to get it done and over with. That's one major reason I left, Jagex has dumbed down RS so much that it practically is a childs game, fortunately for WoW, it's still a bit more adult, mid to upper teenage years and older. I rarely run into anyone going "phr33 st0ff pl0x" or "NooB!" etc, etc. Wolfy is Officially Retired.I miss you all (Well, mostly my friends n stuff)If you want to talk to me, send me a message, I check the boards daily. :D
July 11, 200818 yr Wow, that looks like an update I'd be really excited to read about. If they'd perhaps left us with that much information about GWD then maybe people wouldn't have been killing the bosses on the first day, and it would be more exciting to have killed them. Thanks to Quarra for the awesome sig!Xbox360 Gamertag = Tintin113
July 11, 200818 yr I also agree. It's good that someone's brought this to our attention. Everything nowadays is just handed to us. Imagine if the God Wars wasn't explained so thorough. "Finding them is the easier part, but how will you get in?" Things along the line of that, I'd love to see brought back. Thanks letting us notice this, I support where you're coming from entirely! July 11, 200818 yr Disagree. I personally enjoy reading spoilers and knowing what I'm getting myself into. There are sooo many quests that would have made me angrier than that Crazy German Kid (insert YouTube video) if I didn't have a guide walking me through it. No one is forcing you to read the spoilers or guides. It is solely your choice to read before you jump into an update, the option of going in blindly is always present. I have a friend who never reads the frontpage or any guides whatsoever. He's constantly surprised by updates that happened months ago, even though he's been playing 5+ years.
July 11, 200818 yr There were enough "omgzz whrere r the snows 2 start quest 2 get snoeglobe?!!" threads last Christmas. Jagex is simply catering to the majority of players - a group which is getting steadily younger, unfortunately.
July 11, 200818 yr Well yes but then *everything* used to be harder. This giving way too much information is just another thing Jagex has done to dumb down RS so that kiddies can play it without crying with frustration. The Runescape Wilderness - Meili's Blog
July 11, 200818 yr If the only sources you use are official Jagex ones, you should find that spoilers are pretty easy to avoid. Ever been to a quest page in the Knowledge Base (Game Guide, whatever)? You get a brief summary of what the quest is about, a list of requirements, and the rewards are hidden in spoiler tags. And if you get stuck on a quest, Questhelp quite litarally refuses to spoil the whole thing for you, pointing you the way just one step at a time, not even giving you the whole answer unless you demand it. Okay, there's the occasional Fight Caves guide, where reading the article gives you a pretty good idea of what kind of strategy you'll need. But being "spoiled" in that case seems a lot better to me than fighting through 60 waves only to get killed in one hit because you didn't know to put on pro range when Jad slams his feet on the ground. July 11, 200818 yr I brought this up a few months ago in the debate club: viewtopic.php?f=143&t=663369 But yeah i totally agree, i read the news posts and they practically tell me everything about the update, theres no fun in it. The behind the scenes are the worst offenders though, before BTS you NEVEr got people going 'OMG i thought your were releasing ...... i want it now!' and stating jagex lied to them and got their hopes up, BTS leads to unwanted spamming and flaming as people expect certain things and don't get them. July 11, 200818 yr Things like the shadow sword mini quest are brilliant. They put in something quite big, and not tell anyone, and leave it for people to find out, that was great. Slowly, a rumour started to go around, everyone wanted to and see. ~Boo So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth, These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf, Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in, Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything, Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel, Tear up the book and write your own damn rules, Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got, And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut, And realise that the other world that you're always looking for, Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door, And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas, After all, you were put on the earth to do this, So shine your light so bright that all can see, Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be.
July 11, 200818 yr Author Things like the shadow sword mini quest are brilliant. They put in something quite big, and not tell anyone, and leave it for people to find out, that was great. Slowly, a rumour started to go around, everyone wanted to and see. ~Boo I love things like that. I've always dreamed of having some huge miniquest with an epic reward, but Jagex doesn't leak a single thing. The community shouldn't complain so much, seeing as they didn't even expect this. Unfortunatly, people are right when they say they'll still whine, but they shouldn't whine as much, should they? Dan is right, if Jagex doesn't tell us about a great update, there's nothing for the Rune-tards to moan about.
July 11, 200818 yr The reason they brought in all these spoilers and "guides" is so people would be less likely to go on sites like this one looking for help. They don't want some kid to lose his account when he googles "runescape help" and gives them his password. Although, I still have that feeling every time I become a member. Most of the time I'm a free player but occasionally, I will get a month's membership and get the experiences you guys have been talking about. Alternatively, you could just stop reading the front page for a month or so and wait to find the new stuff yourself. Some games do not mix...
July 11, 200818 yr I like surprises  but I also like to know what I'm getting into... I don't like fun, it upsets me.-- Marilyn Manson
July 11, 200818 yr The community back then was so much smaller. You didn't need spoilers or bts to find out updates because with only 12 worlds all you had to do is log on, and people were talking about it. Now, we have a much larger community where you can see a new person each time you log on. Word of update isn't spread as easy because people tend to not talk to people they do not know.
July 11, 200818 yr Uum. Yeah. I made a post about this oh I'd say 6 months ago, before I was retired. Yeah, they've totaly ruined the way updates should be presented. They just want money. Example: Old way: As of late, there have been reports of mysterious activity deep below the earth. Some say they have witnessed sighting a long forgotten beast, from the deepest parts of the land. Legend has it to be the toughest monster in all of Runescape, and the reward will set your back on fire! This is going to be one hot update! New way: Later this month you will see the release of the level 702 TzTok-Jad in the depths of the Karamja volcano. This beast will drop the coveted fire cape with amazing stats. And you only have to wait 3 weeks! I would say the second would attract more people. (Yes I know the first one sounded corny.)
July 11, 200818 yr I noticed this a long time ago as well. Jagex seem to be releasing more information on new updates. Construction was a huge surprise and so was farming meant to be until they released seeds :P. Now with summoning they had 4 development diaries detailing us on the concepts of the skill. This helps promote the skills and updates to entice players but it kind of spoils it for us continouing players. I don't like complaining about Jagex and how they manage RuneScape and i feel they are having to do this more to stop the forums and bug reports getting overused from players in confusion. They could have spoiler boxes on the bts after the hints of the updates so you can choose whether to see the details? July 11, 200818 yr "You'll have to find him first." Today they would have introduced it including a Map, Screenshots, Manual and a Reminder, not to forget your Dragonfire-shield. You get EVERYTHING provided in the Manual - you even know how it Looks and what special Drops it has - hou dont have to go see it yourself anymore. I Quit membership fo about a Jear from 07 to 08 and did not have to play any of the new updates and still know everything about them. This is probably a move by Jagex to stop the need of Fansites by providing the information themselves. Factually they spoil their own Updates.
July 12, 200818 yr I agree but in some cases I dont like with god wars. I knew nothing when I went there so it was an adventure but a smaller one as I didnt hunt the location myself. Jagex is giving more information to lure people to the game from interest.

July 14, 200818 yr If Jagex told us nothing of a new drop or a monster, we'd spend ages trying to find it. At least doing a quest without a guide isn't that bad. There are clues. Once you start the quest you have to piece it together on your own. But, if you didn't know that the King Black Dragon was in his lair in high level wild, would you have gone looking?
