Da Pirates
ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- A teenager Saturday was struck and killed by a roller coaster at the Six Flags Over Georgia theme park outside Atlanta, authorities said. The Batman ride at Six Flags over Georgia reaches speeds of up to 50 mph. The 17-year-old park visitor was killed after scaling two fences -- one of which was six feet tall -- around the Batman roller coaster, park spokeswoman Hela Sheth said in a statement. The teen, who visiting the park with a church group from Springfield, South Carolina, was decapitated, she said. It was unclear how fast the outside-looping coaster was moving when it struck the teen, but according to the park's Web site, the ride reaches speeds of 50 mph. "We do not know why this person was intent on gaining access to this restricted area," the statement said, noting that multiple signs are posted stating, "Danger Zone," "Do Not Enter" and "Authorized Personnel Only." Video Watch a park patron describe the scene » "Some witnesses have stated that the individual was trying to retrieve something he had lost," Sheth said. "Others reported that he was trying to touch the ride. This is merely speculation at this point, and we are working with park visitors and local police to learn more." No one on the ride was injured, she said. Police said the incident occurred about 2 p.m. The ride was closed Saturday, but park officials said they expected it to reopen Monday. The victim's family was at the park with him, Sheth said, and park representatives were with them Saturday evening. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family," she said. Cobb County police spokesman Dana Pierce said officers would continue to investigate the incident, but "all indications are that the park had done everything they could to maintain a safe environment." Video Watch how day at amusement park turns into a tragedy » In May 2002, a worker was killed after he walked under the Batman roller coaster's track and was struck in the head by a passenger's leg, according to The Associated Press. After the incident, the ride was inspected and deemed safe by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, AP reported. advertisement In June, a girl's feet were cut off when a free-fall thrill ride malfunctioned at the Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Amusement Park in Louisville, Kentucky. A cord wrapped around the 16-year-old's feet and severed them at her ankles while she was on the Superman Tower of Power, a police dispatcher said. Act like an idiot, and dumb things happen to you. Agreed. It was a really stupid thing to do. It's not the theme park's fault in any way.. if he's stupid enough to knowingly pass signs that say, "Danger Zone," "Do Not Enter" and "Authorized Personnel Only," then I don't have any sympathy for him. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog

urbestfreind
It's not the parks fault he died, it's pure stupidity. The signs clearly state to keep out because it's dangerous, and anyone with common sense would be able to figure out that something moving 60+ mph and that weighs who knows how many pounds, and moving at head-height, would be dangerous at the least. The park shouldn't be held responsible for what happened, they took all the precautions necessary (or at least those required by law), and someone violated those rules and didn't heed the warnings. Must have been a hell of a sight for the people there that day though. About the worker being killed, that was probably the parks fault. What the hell was a worker doing in there while the ride was running? The ride should either have been shut down, or the employee was doing something they shouldn't have been...The fault probably lies with both parties... The one about the girl in June though, that would get a bit more sympathy out of me, because it is a fault with the rides, but for all I know, it could have been just a freak accident, and something that couldn't have been predicted. Usually parks are rather meticulous about inspecting everything to make sure it's safe...In any case, that really sucks, I can't imagine what that would be like, especially for the people she was with... [hide=Funny Quotes]So you sucker punched a kid in the back of the head? Good job. What scares me is that you're like 10 years old.-.- im not that freaking youngYou were a couple years ago. It's not racist if its true.Hmm... Distracted
Another person dead by being stupid... Although I'd be pissed off if I lost my feet from a ride at Six Flags, which is one of my favorite theme parks... I'm a football player after all... Nom
Hey, look, some kid got himself decapitated. Last year. That girl who got her feet cut off, that happened last June. I remember discussing that event with friends over Key Lime Pie when it was still actually news. EDIT: Whoops, it looks like I was mistaken. I was thinking of a very similar event that happened on a very similar ride at PKI. Bad wording on the part of the article as well.

Not to mention, the facebook page for Asia ferguson was raided by /b/ the weekend it happened. so many racist people flocked to this dead kids page, and claimed he was... well i wont go their. But anyway, anyone who claimed he was dumb was labeled a racist. Many people pointed out they would have laughed and said this kid was dumb if he was any race even white. [hide=raid included picture(s) such as this][/hide] the darwin awards also said the person who accidentally kicked his head broke their legs, that kinda demonstrates how fast it was going that theme park/kids family would so be sued for that. Seriously i would be so angered at breaking my leg over some kid doing this

Georgelemmons
I would be incredibly pissed if i lost my feet... To be honest, I don't feel sorry for him at all... But I feel really sorry for the kids on the Batman. I was at the Taste of Chicago when the recent shooting happened, and I can imagine what it must have been like to be on a roller coaster as it decapitated someone. :? Zierro
I feel really bad. Trips to amusement parks are supposed to be fun - not devastating. Also, in my eyes, stupidity is no a justification of death no matter what. We can't say that we've never done anything stupid, we can only say that we're lucky nothing bad happened when we did do something stupid.

Adam007
I feel bad for the person who's legs hit the kid, but I'm glad that kid is dead. One less complete idiot in this world. How can you be glad an innocent kid is dead? I'm not saying this specifically to you because there are other posts like it on this thread. But there's nothing good about someone dying. Darwin awards push it pretty far, but some people can be pretty inhumane. Like someone else said, just because someone did something stupid doesn't mean they deserve to die. I might expect to read things like that on anonymous sites, but come on. Aside from a few exceptions, nobody deserves to die.
