Half of my family drinks and are alcoholics, but the other half doesn't even touch alcohol. My first problem is that I will have almost no natural tolerance to the alcohol itself, and I would get drunk off my ass from just a can of beer. If I do start drinking regularly, chances are I will become an alcoholic too, its in my genes. But most importantly, I don't like the taste of it. I've had small tastes of a variety of stuff here and there, but none of it appeals to me. Why waste my money on something that doesn't taste good? If you ever do decide to try it, even just for one night and not make a habit out of it, I suggest maybe trying Mike's Hard Lemonade if you haven't before. I drink it when I'm not in the mood for beer and you can't even tell that it has alcohol in it. It goes down easy and tastes pretty decent. Honestly, from what I've seen, people who have problems with alcohol almost always have some other problem that accentuates it. It's entirely possible to enjoy alcohol in moderation with no negative consequences. That said, that does depend on the individual. If you feel your life is better without alcohol, that's your choice and at least you're making it with good intentions. Hopefully it helps.
