How is it possible to survive the freshers' week?

Been drunk every day so far, even though I am not a freshman anymore.

Moved to a new place. Got my own room.

No internet until 19th though.

And actually, it is kinda hot here in Ethiopia.

So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends.

RPG is constantly dealing with psycho exes.

Muggi reminds us of the joys of polygamy.

Saq is totally oblivious to how much chicks dig him.

I strike out every other week.

Kalphite wages a war against the friend zone.

Randox pretty much stays rational.

Etc, etc

I got the lightsaber I ordered in the mail today.... Like.... This thing is awesome.

“I had a feeling we weren’t coming back from this fight when it began.”

“Do you have any regrets?”

“I don’t. It seems surprising, I know, but I wouldn’t change a thing. This is how it was meant to be.”

“Huh, you never really notice how lovely the day is until you realize you’ll never see it again.”

“Mmmhmm.”

I had this calculator of sorts that I spent three weeks on. You put a couple of pieces of info in, such as salary, retirement contribution, etc - and it would generate a lot of info. It would calculate how much you pay in taxes, your tax bracket, retirement money. You could set a budget too. If you filled out all of the fields, you could see how much money you would have in your retirement and bank after x amount of years - accounting for inflation, retirement growth, investing if you wanted, cost of living and increases, salary raises, etc.

This was all on my new work laptop that I got a couple months ago. I didn't have it backed up because it was a personal project, and I didn't want to back it up on the work servers. Apparantely my laptop was a lemon, and it bluescreened today, the ssd was unsalvagable, and I lost it all :(

I just got back from my first job interview in nearly 7 years. I think it went well, but I'll find out if I got the job tonight. If I did, I'll be doing the mind-numbing work I tend to prefer, so I actually would love to get this one. If I don't, it's back to the comments of "Get a job yet?" and "You need a job, you're getting fat."

Good luck Dougy.

On that note I started updating my CV today, 5 months jobless travelling I'm going to need a job soon...

Anyone know what the UK job market is like come winter?

Finished my (second) first week (well two days) of University. I'm taking four classes so my days are pretty short, unfortunately I start at 8:30 or 9:30 every day. Canadian Economics and Computer Science look fun, Calculus and repeating Linear Algebra less so.

I ended up loving my new mechanical keyboard so much I ordered another one to use with my laptop. It's a compact 60% layout, so all the F keys and arrows/home/del/etc. are on a function layer on top of the other keys. Will probably take a while to get used to, but it'll be a lot easier than lugging around a fullsized keyboard.

Ouch Blake. And to think I was mad this morning cause I lost my underwear

Got the job. It's part time, but should be plenty to pay my share of the bills.

My internet was out for 2 days and I'm greeted with almost a full page in the Today thread. Man this board is so slow nowadays...

Get off my lawn

I sort-of got a job. It's unpaid work a few hours a week at the local gay bar venue behind bar so I can get the extra experience. I start on Monday and quite nervous since I've been out of a working environment for 2 years. :\

lmao that's dodgy as [bleep].

now as soon as you start join the appropriate union and tell them you're not being paid for your work, and observe the fireworks

sleep like dead men

wake up like dead men

I'm a job seeker so it's within my rights to work unpaid. I think I can only do something like 5 hours MAX a week, otherwise by law they have to pay.

Unless part of your job seeker requirements is to work for 2 weeks unpaid full-time as part of "gaining work-related skills",  which they want to make compulsory to any job seeker next year the entire time you're on the dole. (which imo is slavery)

In that awkward stage of wanting to just start the school year, while also wanting to savor the time I have left over the summer with my friends who are here at home. I'm fairly excited to meet new people and try new things in my next year of college, but all my closest friends are here.

I leave for the school year in 11 days, dang. I still don't actually start school until the 24th though.

On a different note: it's shitty to see a good friend turn into someone that's just no longer fun at all to be around. Getting dependent on weed is a very real thing, and it can make someone become so incredibly dull and just... unmotivated to actually do anything interesting in life. Everything in moderation, kids.

I don't know if/how often it was drugs but I've had that experience with friends online a million times :(.

My blog here if you want to check out my Times articles and other writings! I always appreciate comments/feedback.

All (hopefully fake) twitter and other media accounts and news outlets have worked well in getting me pretty [bleep]ing uneasy about our neighbour to the east.

CIA official account tweeted information about Estonia. @DarthPutinKGB, a twitter account very well informed about pretty much everything Russia, has been making jokes about us even before it became clear that an Estonian counterintelligence officer was kidnapped. As if that dude knew it before.

IN OTHER NEWS:

Got me new laptop. Pretty amazing thing so far. Haven't noticed any lag in any games yet and it has 1080p screen and it cost just 600 euros. Of course, the most demanding game so far has been Crusader Kings II, so we'll see.

Also, got a deal with me dad to get all of my stuff and finally, my BED to my new apartment. Can't wait.

Coming to an end of the first week in September and it's almost 90 today (pretty warm by this climate).  It looks like summer doesn't quite want to end yet.

Got up late, worked a bit on my 3D printer, discovered the magic that is JB Weld, had some beer brats that were really good, burned a mattress, came back to my dorm and considering going to bed now or frustrating myself with more 3D printer building; square headed screws, presumably on the grounds that they're harder to strip, make up nearly all of the plastic to wood connections and I hate it.

Went to the casino for the first time. Made $15 off roulette and blackjack. Blackjack is a lot of fun, but the tables were all $5 limit tables and I didn't want to lose my meager profit so I only played a dozen or so hands. It's kinda depressing to see people sitting at the same slot machine all night though, I can only imagine they're really bad at math.
