2012 Apoclypse: Fact or Fiction?

Featured Replies

I know this is a fragile subject for some people, so please be respectful.

Well, you hear it all over the place. On TV, the internet. Even some science is backing it up about an apparant "polar shift" where the north and south poles will change. Also, some blabber about the black hole in the middle of the Milky Way being involved.

So, what I ask you, do you think this is true?

I personally have mixed feelings about it, but am not going to sit down and whine about it. I'll just live my life as normal as I do everyday, and if it comes, it comes. If it doesn't, who the hell cares?

I personally a lot of us will be annihilated by nuclear arms first to be honest. After the apparent assassination of President Bush.

I think there will be a change, but not something that drastic. Some minor event will probably happen during the year and tons of people will blow it out of proportion and make it seem revolutionary. If you ask me though, it just sounds like another Y2K theory.

you can't call it fact till it happens or there is definitive proof. the poles won't just switch like that, it would take a long time i'd assume for polarity to just switch. i'm going with fiction.

I think something big will happen, but not anything having to do with the destruction of Earth...I keep thinking our first contact with aliens...

A polar shift is plausible but I doubt it will cause the end of the world. It will certainly effect us negatively but I think we will overcome it very quickly (1-2 years). Polar shifts have happened many times before, yet biological life still exists today. I don't see why this polar shift will be any different.

Global Warming caused by humans will intensify the shift 1000 fold and all metals on earth will rip themselves apart until the earth is obliterated! /crackpot theories

I think *something* will happen. What that something is, I have no idea. The end of the world, the beginning of a huge world war, a switch in poles (Or whatever), or uh...Me graduating. All possibilities.

Oh yeah, and about the Mayan calender thing... It ended on 2012, but we don't know if they actually meant anything by that or that they just felt like stopping for no particular reason. They had to have stopped somewhere. I think the PS2 calender stops at like 2100 - another conspiracy theory??

OMG!!! PS2's across the globe will transform into giant robots and kill us all in 2100

hatsune-miku-wallpaper-49-1.jpg

Fiction- the fact is that they NEVER have switched, on any major planet, without a rattling collision. And that collision won't happen, so I doubt the poles would switch...

And Apocolyptic theories have been out since the beginnings of mankind- the year 1000, 1066 (William the Conquerer, anyone?), 2000, etc....

i mean wth no1 cares about that weak noob that was scared of the great almighty lord ZAROS!

Isn't 2012 the year where our system enters a new Galactic Day?

A complete revolution around the center of the Galaxy. And I think now our planet can get direct light from the center, therefore being a 'Galactic Morning.'

I'll look it up. I don't know if read it somewhere, or just made it up.

But I don't want to go among mad people!

Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here..."

That sounds cool^^^

Exactly. We need to figure out by what the Mayans meant when they ended there. Maybe was the end of their 'milenina' so to speak. Or you know, you can fit so many dates on a piece of stone before space runs out.

"The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."

I think they just did not finish it because the mayans were too busy getting shot by aliens and getting puncured by the tail of stingray (Its true, they actually did this for holy ceremonies...)

I only think anything will happen is because I've been told that something large will happen. But I don't know what to think as I haven't researched it, or basically it's merely speculation and nothing more.

Regardless if something did happen I really don't think it would wipe us out, I'm open that certain countries may feel climate change, or something, or I can believe people will die from some chain of events resulting from the 2012 theory indirectly but meh.

It comes woohoo...

Attention! Attention! Read all about it! Compasses everywhere point in the opposite direction! Thankfully most are covered under warranties.

They had to have stopped somewhere. I think the PS2 calender stops at like 2100 - another conspiracy theory??

I was laughing at that for like 5 minutes.

My carbon footprint is bigger than yours...and you know what they say about big feet.

Let's try to get more on topic. I don't want this topic locked because it somehow got from a supposed apocalypse to masturbation.

OnT: Well, if this is everything that everyone says it is, there's nothing we can do. So, just live life like you normally do.

Maybe on December 21 2012, santa will die...

This kinda makes me think though...the date is:

12/21/2012

hatsune-miku-wallpaper-49-1.jpg

We've gone though so many significant dates when some people claim the Apocalypse will happen, that I don't care any more.

Anyway, about that Mayan calendar, wasn't the idea of it being a cycle, in that when one ends another begins? It's just that the inventors didn't survive long enough for there to be a need to make a new one.

I doubt anything will actually happen. My best guess is that the Aztecs/Mayans used some sort of astrological system to guess this, and if anything was going to happen then astromoners would have said something by now.

I bet something big will happen.. but only because so many people are expecting something drastic to happen so people will do things that might cause a large event..

On the other hand, London will be hosting the olympics. that would be the end of the world for people living there and already suffering from horrible traffic.. also the day that the worst thing possible happens: London hosting olympics..

LOL...hahaha I wonder if the people in London can make a better opening ceremony than this years. It was cool...until I found out that a lot of that stuff was CGI'd, that little girl lip-synched...and one of the Chinese cheated on diving...

I laughed pretty hard at this.

No, I don't think anything will happen. Nothing that could cause the end of hummanity, at least. A mayan calendar can't predict anything, and why the Mayans? Have they predicted anything before?
