Google releases Google Chrome

Aha, I figured out why it doesn't play runescape. Apparently, Chrome requires something in the newest Java, version 6 update 10. It was in beta until just a bit ago, and it's now a release candidate. It's basically find to download and use now, and will be released as-is unless they find anything big to fix. I'd download it if you want to try runescape in chrome. Otherwise, wait maybe a week or two and it should be released final.

A few more things...(And this is using Google Chrome)

-You can have multiple homepages. As in you can set it so multiple tabs, with multiple websites, open when you open the browser. I was under the impression that other browsers could do this, but maybe I was just missing out on something big.

-You can't hold down the mouse wheel and scroll. :| (Not a big deal?)

-A bit buggy in my opinion, some things aren't working properly. Oh well, should be fixed eventually.

Anyway, just keep in mind it's the beta, and the first few days. It can't be perfect yet. Though it is Google, so it should.

Using it right now and so far enjoying it, blocked the Tip.it pop up plus it transferred all my settings and tabs from FF, looks great too, awaiting ad-block feature though
There is a popup blocker... In case you haven't noticed.

Of course there aren't any addons... It came out freaking yesterday. For a browser that's in 0.2.149.27, you people have very high expectations.

It looks flashy and somewhat cool, but I don't think I am going to give up Firefox. I expect it to replace Internet Explorer for users who don't sure the intraweb a lot. My mom got mad when I dled Firefox on her computer. She thought it was a program. I told her it was a browser and its qualities, but she refuses to switch over.

This thread should be moved to Tech and Computers, also theres already a thread on it HERE.

Please note that this browser hasn't been released yet and it's still in Beta, also note that it's open source so no it's not only for Vista, it will be for all platforms including Linux and Mac.

Wow.. suprised a moddy didn't lock it yet.... then.... maybe it needs to be reported to bring it up to someone's attention that there's multiple threads?

btw... my mom and dad were forced to switch over when I deleted IE from the start menu and showed daddy Moz. :twss:

I did that with my stepdad's laptop, but he freaked out when he couldn't find IE. I explained Mozilla to him, but he made me get IE back. *sigh*

EDIT: I still wish I had adblock...this is phail w/o it. Oh, and add-ons would be nice. Firefox still remains king I believe.
What are the chances of Google, whose main business interest is in advertising online, allowing adblock?

Clare is right, there's already a topic about this. :)

This topic was reported, so I had a look at both topics. However this one is not so much a technical discussion, which is why I believe it has been allowed to stay by the Moderators who have already posted in this topic. I will leave it up to the OT Mods to decide if it should be locked or not.

You're accusing me of bigotry, how ironic. It's a nice attempt at argument, but your responses are facile and asinine, if not diatribe. Who's arrogant now?

It all misses the point.

IE is on top because it comes pre-installed. It's there. Many people who don't know otherwise would regard Explorer as the Internet. Half of them probably don't know what a browser is.

Google aren't gonna change that.

i had absolutely no desire for a different browser other than IE7. i just didn't care about firefox or opera. my mom uses mozilla, i was forced to use it when i visited her, i didn't like it. i am loving chrome though, so it's my new browser of choice, regardless of any other benefits firefox or opera has had. i didn't care about them in the past, i still don't now.

I wonder how long it will be before MS are forced to class IE as an optional extra, they got their hand slapped for having IE as a desktop icon option in the screen control panel, that's why it ain't there anymore. MS don't really have the right to monopolize the browser market, especially when it's full of holes :?

I also think you don't give the public the credit they deserve, we meet all sorts here and I would say it's about 50/50 split between IE and Firefox. But I would say 99% of these people use Google regardless of what browser they currently use. And hey look on the Google homepage, Chrome is advertised! Now take a wild stab and guess what's gonna happen next :)

^ Quiet a few of them won't go to the Google main page. They'll use the Google toolbar's search box, which completely skips the download link. I must say, it's not exactly advertised that well on the main page either. I had to actually look for it to notice it was there. Added to that the natural suspicion and conservatism people have towards new technology - many people will go "Why? I only want the Internet, and I've got it already".

Until Microsoft's monopoly is broken (just as it eventually was with WMP in Europe), I can't see IE's share of the market breaking anytime soon.

I absolutely love it. If it had the adblock feature I'd definitely use it instead of Firefox, since the new Firefox is pretty damn annoying.

It's simple, clean and really damn fast. I like the way tabs work, the "most visited websites" feature and how you can load additional websites upon browser startup. Can't wait for the official release, and the surge of extensions that will come with it.

I love of how you're saying all this as if it's fact.

Sorry but I disagree, You're assuming they have the google toolbar installed. I have the toolbar installed and even I don't use that to search, for some reason I always find myself going to google's homepage to perform the search even thought I know it's essentially the same thing. To be honest I have built the google search into my homepage at home.

On your point of people going "Why? I only want the Internet, and I've got it already". I will tell you; Because they all want something better, especially if it's faster. Why do you think there's soo much hassle about faster broadband. Anything that boasts a speed increase will get noticed, and Chrome definitely improves your surfing experience!

Only time will tell, but I know what I will be using and what I will be recommending!

Still thinking wether to use Firefox or Chrome :D

Edit: Just came out with this:

In English: Oh booger, Google Chrome has just crashed.

Pretty cool so far, also I'd recommend Google Desktop to anyone using Windows XP, it's search feature is awesome for finding files.

This may or may not be I have too many files, but Google Desktop crashes when I set it to archive my files. And not only crash, it decides to chew up 50 CPU while doing so.

However, the browser looks good. But, I dont like it. Yet. Lack of extensions (which may or may not be resolved in the future), lack of skinning possibilities and its layout dont appeal to me. If such things should be resolved I may consider switching over, though it doesnt feel any faster or more reliable than my current FF setup. But im definately liking the seperate process for each tab thing, that really annoys me should FF crash I have to reset my whole browser rather than just close the tab that crashed.

I use a minimal skin and an extension which hides all but my bookmarks and tools menu for FF, so no difference in window size. I have a few addons which increase speed/dont load unnecessary things [+ registry tweaks to my computer]. Plus NoScript, ABP, DTA and rikaichan are all addons I use alot and id rather not make do without for now.
