Hiierarch
Anyone do it? I've got a 1972 Datsun 240Z that I want to buy and build for racing, there's a circuit in the surrounding areas where I live, I'd love to get into it. If any of you race, what cars do you run? And how about some pics? I think this is a great addition to the Off Topic forum.

Bouwzie
Illegal. Idiot. Post something that contributes to the topic. The fact that it is illegal doesn't really matter, although you get a bigger kick of it than when it would be legal. I personally want to try it sometimes, but well, The Netherlands suck and I am still too young to drive.
silver_wits
Illegal. Wow... exactly my thought. Anyways, Street racing is dangerous, not only to unaware pedestrians, but also to the rest of civilians driving, and yourself. Also if the Police catch you, you'll go to jail. Maybe if the sectioned off the road it would be better, but they don't. At least the real street racing. :wall:
Kenshinjapan
Illegal. Summed it up for me as well. But honestly, I don't see how this brings anything to the forum. It's just a random activity that hardly anyone does. Not to mention that it's boring. Seriously, you floor the gas and try to get to the finish first. That's about it... YOU! ATTEND TET EVENTS! jemathonical
It may be an addrenaline rush, but something that I would never do. Dangerous and would probably get my car taken away. ^Sir Jem 05-The Bunny Drinking Blog?^ Click it!

There are also those who race illegally like that, and it is a big part of the community, but I don't plan on participating in it. By street racing, I meant more of the custom foreign cars scene
deloriagod
Illegal. Ever considered saying more than a single word? OT: I've never really raced but I've played around with friends on highways and some guy in a Charger wanted to race once (I have a 2008 Eclipse -all stock-). I kinda took him up on it but I was in an automatic while he had a manual transmission and shifted well. The area we raced in was a 35mph zone and we got to around 60ish or so before I dipped out. Too much traffic for the cops to hide in when we did it plus I've already lost my license once :? . The adrenaline rush of the take off and trying to stay ahead is amazing though A few of my thoughts about problems with racing: Legality: I've already done plenty of things that could land me in jail. Pedestrian safety: Avoid racing in areas with high amounts of foot traffic. Personal safety: If you can't drive very well, don't even think about racing. If you're willing to risk your life for some fun, have fun ;) Other vehicle safety: Again, find an area with little to no traffic. A good time to race is late at night due to low traffic and it's easy to see if a vehicle is coming (easy to spot police). 1_man_army
One of my cousins died when her boyfriends car hit a lampost, they might not have been racing but the same principle applies. Speeding and showing off in cars on public streets is for [bleep]ing morons. Edit - Just re-read OP's later post, if it is a properly organised, legal event with proper safety and security then it is a different matter entirely. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)

123_x_pac
I think its cool. As long as its a sponsered circuit, I think you'd be okay with law enforcement. RichieMcD
The amount of people who've only read the title and not the original post, then creating [developmentally delayed]ed answers to that is crazy. He never mentioned actual street racing as something he wants to do, he wants to go to local race circuit. Good luck building up your car, it's a fun thing to do. Is the circuit near you any good? magegoogles
Yea Ive done it. There is a small circuit and drag strip but some corvette club owns it. So we (my friends and lots of kids from my school) have a small out of the way drag strip. Personally I dont like drag because all I have is a stock chevy 05 Cobalt. Except for my speakers, infinities, and a 12" pipline sub. But on the highway isnt too bad. Its even more motavion not to get last because the person trailing will be the one who get caught :shame: . But what Ive done the most is sprints, I guess thats what you call them, Where we take turns going from one area to another as fast as you can. Bascially thats who excelarates the fastest, stops for the least amount of time, and gets luckey traffic wise.
Giordano
Its not like most street racers race in the middle of 5th Avenue...but in some sort of off-section...like a empty loading plaza or something. I like free-for-all racing; no define track and not the same thing over and over, although I would never do it...and the current petrol prices... It takes skill, by the tone of your posts, I'm guessing you have none whatsoever. Not everyone can shift well, especially off the line. It also takes common sense, which again, I'm guessing you have none of. The adrenaline rush of the take off and trying to stay ahead is amazing though I love the adrenaline rush, it's the best part. I know exactly what you mean about going head to head when you're running an auto against a manual. I'll occasionally race my friends down the less used highways early in the morning and stuff. I love going fast.
