Giordano
I think thats the only slanderous statement that really bugs me. Christianity/religion doesn't make anyone bigoted, human nature makes us bigoted. Geez this forum needs to get that in their head. Btw, I like that factual statement saying we are taught the moral by our parents? I share only one moral with my parents, I don't approve of abortion. Thats it. And just because you can't see it doesn't mean we should suffer from your myopic outlook. Fun fact: Mother Teresa renounced her religion close to death. (Well... ok technically she didn't fully renounce it, but she confessed to the Vatican she can't believe in a god that allows all of this bad crap to happen) Three of the stupid, over-used arguments set by religous folk. 1) Any statement against religion must of been said in the extreme sense. 2) Specific morals. You completely forgot the more basic ones: theft murder, honor, loyalty, family. You don't have those? 3) Famous person X renounced their religion before they died! So I'm not going to argue against those stupid rebuttals. If you can even call them that. "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is." The only reason why I'm against abortion is because the baby is defenceless. 3) That was a fun fact. I was watching a video and that thought popped in my head, my psych teacher told us that a year ago. It wasn't related to the conversation. Well.. Thanks for your time :) @ Harrinator, you're absolutely right, *And I am serious when I say the following statement* I may be a myopic crazy old hypocritical fool, Im not discounting that at all, I'm merely saying what I believe Pasta's views to be. I know I am for one, a huge hypocrite (kinda directed at Napalm) and I do tend to pass judgments too quickly (a fool) but I don't think I'm crazy.... And I don't really think I should be the one to judge if I'm nearsighted or not. Anyways. Also, I wasn't angry at Nick at all, I guess you could/should say that I'm more pissed at Atheists in general who act like all Religions make you a bigot no matter what, or at the very least Christianity. @ Napalm. Yea, I posted that and while I was at work a for a few hours I mentally added it up, it's closer to 2500, though thats a complete estimate, it might be 6,000, might be 800. Anyways, 1)Many Christians don't follow the 10 commandments exactly. Now, I am not at all saying it is acceptable, nor am I excusing my behavior, but for all the Christians that stayed up late drinking and missed church? Technically you just broke a commandment. And if you're like me and lie to your parents so you don't have to go to church you just broke like.... 4... Hehe. Anyways, I know many people who find it acceptable to dabble around with Tarot cards, or cuss out their parents, or skip church, or get envious of their neighbors new car, they are technically defying practically half of them. However, they may be still amazing Christians, morals tend not to be cut and dry. Thats my personal opinion, my parents for one say they are very cut and dry but meh. And I can't really say if Christianity has changed my morals at all, partly because I've always been a Christian. But I'm sure I wouldn't be where I'm at right now (in a bad way) if I was an Atheist. edit: I just realized I'm the only one on this forum who shares the same beliefs as me :( I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. Nadril
I don't see how not getting confirmed can change your life or not. Hell I got confirmed a long while ago when I was 13 or something like that. Even back then I really didn't believe in God that much, I just went along with it to make people happy. It didn't change my life at all and I stayed the same way I always have been. Just because a Church "officially" says you do or do not believe in something isn't going to change anything... I just don't see how you can say that if you were Atheist your life would be so much worse. (Also just curious but how do you deal with the whole Christianity opposing gay people thing? I mean there has to be some conflict there for you...)
Saru Inc
Oh. Heh. I for one wasn't really discussing the idea of confirmation, but more of the idea that flip flopping on religion is no biggie. 2) Christianity doesn't oppose homosexuality in the slightest, only Christians do. And I'm actually getting kinda tired atm so I don't feel like explaining it. But I'll try: Rules in the Bible fall under dos catergories: 1) Man's rules 2) God's rules now, I wanna say 100%, but to be honest I really haven't studied all of the gay verses, but the ones I have are ones made of man. Despite grecian men getting it on, homophobia was extremely more prevalent back then. So most of that crap in leviticus was man's law. 2) Gods rules, 10 commmandments etc say nothing of gay sex. Sure it might imply it by saying a man and woman in general but still... im rly tired edit: Besides, *based on my beliefs mind you* since God loves us, we woulnd't be born being unable to change us, so destined to hell. People tend to use examples as priests and serial killers. (I'm not suggesting you were going to) 1) Priests choose to be celibate, God doesn't force them to be. It's purely free will. 2)Serial killers are products of the dehumanization and destruction of the human psyche and soul. They weren't born that way, they were made that way. Also, many serial killers I sincerely believe did/will go to heaven if they repented. Ofc we're going to assume for the sake of my argument heaven is real. Lenticular_J
I don't get why people can take such strong viewpoints on an internet forum, and yet won't even hold to their ideals enough to tell their parents they don't want to do something. Saru Inc
Sorry - how did I flip flop religon? I chose not to get confimed at a younger age so I have time to decide. You didn't. I think we kinda strayed away from your post after like one or two posts. However, you did express the idea that if you could easily flip flop. Well, flip flop isn't really the right phrase, I guess you could say just switching religions. I don't get why people can take such strong viewpoints on an internet forum, and yet won't even hold to their ideals enough to tell their parents they don't want to do something. Passive-aggressive snides aren't standing up for yourself. Anonymity is a ridiculous tool. Wha? I mean, first off, its not wise to stand up for yourself when you live in your parents house. Sometimes you have to let your morals/principles slide for a bit, it doesn't make you passive aggressive snides at all. I'm thinking you're thinking of a certain irl incident and projecting it onto us. Because those are some pretty personal words. I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. Wizz
Saruman, some posts above you admited to having stolen over $4000 from your parents. You also say that you believe in Jesus, and therefore I assume you believe in the 10 commandments, one of which is "thou shalt not steal" (or something among the lines). If being religious -in your case, christian- changed your morals, you wouldn't have done that. You find it morally acceptable to steal, directly contradicting the christian moral.Or he could be be Catholic if one believes in Jesus. Best rules about being Catholic, "Sin and Confess!" And that's what I mean! Your morals were constructed by society. You grew up learning what's acceptable and what's not based on other's people actions, not on preset laws. That's why you find it possible to be a good christian and still break the rules, because the "traditional christian morals" are not the same than the morals of society. (This was written without reading all the posts between the post I quoted and this post.) Edit: If you're gonna answer to this, do it through PM, I think we're completely derailing the thread. Iamdan
Most "christians" aren't really christians and just invent their own morals and beliefs based on society and their view of the world - essentially creating their own religion. A "christian" who picks and chooses their morals and beliefs from the bible is no more christian than an atheist imo. It's not really a true faith if it's only partial. Also this forum needs a Godwins law, except about religion.

A lot of 'Christians' that I know don't have any faith either and just go to church to make themselves feel like good people.
