wildy58
Quite awhile ago, on Runescape, I Heard someone say "no pride in pixels." That made me think, is there really pride in pixels? Recently, I heard two people arguing, and again I heard one say, "no pride in pixels." And that really made me wonder. While some may argue it's stupid to take pride in pixels which are just computer generated images that show stuff in games, if you really think about the hard work, hours of dedication put into earning these "pixels", you may come to think there is actually pride in pixels. Though it does sound sort of stupid, compare it to a sports star, they put hours of dedication into getting better, gamers put hours of dedication into raising their character. But then again, some will say, "just sitting and clicking is way easier than practicing a sport." That is why I'm curious to hear about some other opinions on this topic. Erichermit
There is. I'm proud of my fishing cape. Because people are impressed? No. I actually don't care if people are impressed. I'm proud of my cape because Im happy to have made that acheivement. There's nothing wrong with taking pride in your accomplishments of this game. That's what makes it fun. What is wrong is thinking you're better than someone else, bragging, or expecting insta-respect for it. I implore you take pride in everything you do in Runescape, whether it's buying a steel scimitar or buying a Saradomin Godsword. Which are just pixels. Do you hate Wyverns or Warped Terrorbirds? Shadiochao
Just people's opinion really. Some people play for fun, others for showing off/competition. People who play just for fun, some of the time, are one of the people who don't think they should be proud of it. I'd say you definatly should be proud of it. I mean after all them hours you spend doing something, having the patience for something like that is an achievement itself.

Zierro
Pixels are just a representation of the effort you put forth to get them. Much like money and grades. If you think about it, they are just "words on paper" like your achievements are just "pixels".
Stilev
lol i remember all the "there just pixel's" lol that was funny, yeah there my pixels, and i worked hard for them, and i'd be ticked if someone took them from me.
money123678
Definitely. Peeps should be proud of what they work on. What they have achieved, and What they are attempting. Whether you just mined your first iron ore, or get a mining Skillcape ( ). It's what you have worked towards, and you deserve to be proud of it. The sports analogy is a great analogy, because it is very much like that. They work to be the fastest runner, or to have massively manly muscles, or to be able to shoot a ball into the net every time. I ask you this, How many peeps actually achieve those extraordinarily high standards? The average Joe won't, But he (or she) can still be proud of what he does accomplish. Whether he (or she) only takes a minute off of there mile time, or whether they get gold at the next Olympics, they can both still be proud in what they have achieved. People's interpretation of what an object stands for is just as important as what an object is really worth. Is paper worth diamond? No. But that paper has more "value" then what it really is. Great_one
well i think it depends a bit. if you are talking about regular pixils that you can get anywhere on a computer, no. but sence the only way to the the sertain pixils in-game is to earn them as you annot make them there is pride...hope that makes sence

kMzLeader
I put effort into what I love doing, and I take pride in what I do well. I take pride in what I have in Runescape, and in every other game I play currently and in the past. It takes skill to play through a game, a different skill to kicking a football or throwing a basketball... but still skill. - kMzLeader 99 Woodcutting99 Fletching99 Cooking~~Goals~~91/99 Range94/99 Fishing67/70 Summoning

Nenga
Well I feel a sense of accomplishment getting something done. Even though after awhile it does get repetitious and I get bored out of my freakin' mind. I'll have 95 fishing if I sit down and fish. I think people do place pride in their character. Getting all the quests done wasn't easy. The guide for mep2 was less than helpful for me, and no guide will run me through the temple of light, or make sure I don't die, or kill a level 343 monster, that part is all me. Ponies! DieselX
The pixels are hard work. Endless hours of wasteful clicking. That doesn't make the pixels any valuable, just means an idiot was ready to waste a lot of time into something pointless. That in itself is fine, everyone has passtimes. There's a huge gap between "I do this just for fun, I know it's stupid and pointless. I have X levels, I'm happy, and it ends there." and "My pixels are valuable, precious, and make my proud(proud to have clicked?). I demand that people respect my pixels wherever I go. When someone talks about my pixels I get all serious because they are important in my life." So bottomline, no, they have no value. You can be happy about what you've got, but you have to remember this is just a game and jagex owns all of your character. To go as far as to say that those pixels have "value" is a sign the game is no longer just a game [to you].

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here. Did you mean that we are allowed to personally value them as in (I'm personally satisfied that I have accomplished this goal) but that it's wrong to expect everyone else to value them (I wear a Phat, therefore I am superior)? If that's what you meant then I agree.
spooferfish
Go find one of the 9 year olds that somehow have a level 120+, there is ALOT of pride in pixels. On a non-spammy note: well said DieselX.
Suiku
It depends how you see it, in real life, no, it doesn't matter a thing to have items from a game, it doesn't show skills or ability, since grinding doesn't require it, just a lot of free time. In game on the other hand, of course it matters, it shows your dedication and maybe you're experience as a player, and that's what every player struggling for: being the best. You having nice items shows you're one step closer :P Veteran Cape Owner (10 year)
danelennon
Of course there's pride in pixels - you'll find that with any game! :D I remember being on a high for weeks because me and my friend from school had a competition to see who could complete Final Fantasy VII beating the weapons first, starting from scratch. A few weeks later and I did it and rang up my friend to announce it, only to find that he couldn't come to the phone because he was beating the last boss himself. Nevertheless, I won ^_^ I think there are a fair few emotions in pixels - you can get angry and annoyed because you've died and lost your stuff, sad or happy because of a storyline, excited because of a particularly tense part of the gameplay, etc. You can even get nostalgic if you're anything like me - If I load up a SNES emulator and play Zelda, Illusion of Time or Secret of Mana then as soon as the music kicks in I'm transported straight back to my childhood :o
Sprout_teh_druid
Generally, people say things like that when the person is jealous of you- but not always. I take pride not in the pixels I collected- but the meaning behind them. If it makes me happy to have it, to relish in the accomplishment, to enjoy PLAYING the game, the 'pixels' have served their purpose. It's as simple as that. Can be looted to obtain a variable item and reobtain the imp jar. If you are insane, it can instead be exchanged for impling jars from Elnock Inquisitor. tintin113
Saying there's no pride in pixels is like going to an artist and saying: "tcch! so what? you put lead on paper, nice one!" It's what the pixels represent that I have pride in. I don't know who invented the first computer screen or pixel or anything and I don't really care, what I care about is what's programmed to be shown as pixels. If computer screens were cleverly distributed coloured fluids instead of pixels I would still be proud of my character, it's not the pixels that matter, it's the effort you've put into changing your character into what it is today, whether real or virtual one can still take pride in their creations.
