RS - training skills all day?

Ive been playing f2p runescape for along time. By no means im a newb. i started during the miniclip trend :-# but unlike those immature kiddies i actually learned to play the game. There were many of us newbs and back then it seemed that ppl were willing to spend some of their time to help others or just chill out. I remember learning the game from a level 50 which was high back in the day. ive learned many things and even though my level is low i know alot about the f2p world then others.

why is my level so low on my main and others ... because i just chilled and rs and also mainly because i never really had time to just play for like an hour a day. back then it seemed like ppl hung out with each other, had fun etc. friends were easily made.

now it seems like rs is just a different community. everyone doesnt want to meet u in clan wars or in fally bar because they r busy training a skill and if by any means they miss out for a couple of mins they will have less xp then they couldve had. this is wat im talking about. wat happened to just chilling? u may have friends on ur list but how many times have u actually chilled with them ingame rather than just bumping into them my mistake.

Also wat ive noticed is that it is harder to make friends. I made a pure (again) and wat i noticed is that it is hard to make friends. dont get me wrong. im polite and im great at making friends but ppl r just so damn busy training rather than chilling. I added someone and he just is busy training and never really asks if we want to meet up in rs. first off there r no more newbs. every lvl 3 is a side account/skiller/fun account (for wierd names and messing around)/pures. When i try to help newbs it is just hard to find them. all of them r side accouts!

i understand u already have friends in rs. some closer than others. but it is really hard to make new friends in rs. I feel that the community has changed from relaxed and fun to boring and must train skills obsessed. i guess ppl will flame me but i dont care  this is how i feel and i just want to hear ur thoughts.

ps: this thread is for discussion but if mods think this is really more of a rant then u r more than welcomed to move it.

The reason its like this is because you play RS to enjoy the higher parts of the game, and, you have to train to get there.

You cant PK as a level 3, so, you must train.

RS isnt a giant virtual chatroom, its not IMVU. Its like playing elder scrolls and just standing there taking in 'nature'. If you want to socialize like that, go to a virtual chatroom. You can still talk with friends, but people dont 'hang' because every time they 'hang' it means more time till they can PK, bosshunt, or whatever, which is what people enjoy doing together.

We live in a productive society, and Im all for it.

yeah but sometimes it make me sick. ur saying that some ppl cant take a few minutes just to chill. even level 138s or wat ppl consider high leveled players. they still work. even at 99 they try to get idk 200mil xp? i just dont like this new community. it makes the game boring. if ur working in rs all day u might as well just stop and do something useful in real life. i understand training for higher and more aspects of the game but it just bugs me how even at high levels and such ppl still just dont find some time to chill. not even much time.

Ok ya your 100% right. As I grew in levels and experience I noticed it's not about hanging out and having fun but it's working hard to have a higher level of fun now. These days almost all of my friends are either busy with training for the new PKing or getting a 99. I am too going for a 99 and have noticed I am shutting out some people because I'm on a Slayer Task and am too lazy to leave have fun and go back. I don't know what I turned into but it makes me sad when I stop and analyze it. Most people I know and are my friends are a lower level and still like to have fun and not grind for a 99 or a level that will get them some bonus of some sort.I enjoy Castle Wars and some know somewhat addicted I guess. I used to always play it for fun and now it's about winning or beating some rival that I made. It's turning bad and I think we should all STOP and get out of our New York minute stage and take some time and sit around and chill or do something with a group because no matter what level you are our friends will always be there(I hope). This just realy makes me sick when my friends say dude I can't I'm busy ..... I'm like ok ok it doesn't matter but it does matter because usually what I ask of them is fun or only takes a few minutes which won't kill them if they lose 2k XP. I guess I'm not as bad as some of my friends because I do do alot of CW,KBD,GWD, and other group stuff with friends. But I can't stop and think I'm leaving out a few people. Maybe once I'm back and my account is unlocked which is when the hacker stops trying to get my account I'll slow down not race for my 99 and have some fun with my friends again like I did a year or 2 ago. I'm sure I'll enjoy it and they will too. O i'm not done yet if you actually read this far and didn't stop after the first few lines kudos to you keep reading. Maybe thats why we have all the high levels quitting these days due to boredum. Maybe they just spent too much time with their head in their rear skilling to become 'great' at something. Well some atleast I know some that can't play because well school>runescape for them which is the way to go. O well I seem to have diarrhea of the keyboard as my Adv. English 2 teacher says I do when I write papers.

fixed my error. sry that was just a plain typo.

anyways ur post basically summarizes exactly how i feel. many players r grinding for higher levels. even higher levels grind for even more xp. rs is just losing those days when u take a break from grinding a 99 and such and just chill with ur friends by pking or just talking and doing group based activities. sometimes it disgusts me that ppl dont even mine with buddies because all they r concerned about is getting the most xp. wat ppl do is just mine and watch tv and stuff. friendship and real fun is losing its purpose in rs now. im glad im not alone on this feeling.

I dont think RS is a job, but, I do have things in real life that I do. I hang out with a lot of friends, and a lot of girls.

Id rather progress farther in this game than standing around talking to people Ill never see face to face, so, why not do what I enjoy? Training for the bigger things in the game.

My friends list has two people on it.

A long time RS friend, who practically quit, but talk to on MSN in spare time, and a real life friend that I share three classes in school with, who goes on, and does the same thing I do. Train for a 99, or higher stats, or whatever.

I very much agree with your statement. But friends is much more easier to make, true friends are harder to make now.

I normally wear my ava's attractor, boot of ligthness for skilling and no one really talked to me or ask to be friend me. But when I wear my phat and 3rd age armour out, I get alot of request to add me as friend. What really disgust me is that do they want to make friend with me or with my money.

To put it simply, RS is equally realistic, very few people would stand there and chat with their friend when they could spend the time to earn money instead. Unless, you are in some community or clans, making true friends is alot harder now. In real life, you also don't be-friend some random stranger that walk up to you, don't you?

I think that you are right in wrong, in saying it is hard to make friends. When I go Mining, I usually get one or two requests for me to be there friend, and being the wom...I mean gentleman! ( ;) ) that I am, I add them interact with them. However, I only met one or two of my RuneScape Friends in RuneScape, the other 30+ are from Tip.It.

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

I'd rather train 90% of the time, then spend most of my time 'chilling,'. I'm playing Runescape so I can have fun. To me fun is skilling, & mini-games, and sometimes questing. Friends only fit in for clans, or when I need to use their stats and vise-versa.

Sure, I do have those really good friends, I've even talked to them on through a VoIP program once or twice while I scaped. To me thats better than 'chilling' in-game. Heck even IRC rooms is better than just chilling, which is why the CC is so popular.

I don't need to be near you in-game to have a 'chilling' time. I can be in Varrock and you can be in Yanille, and we can still 'chill' with each other through all these third-party or 1st party programs.

On the whole friend thing, this is why I joined a community. You meet a great variety of people and it's a bit different compared to your average clan.

About people not wanting to 'hang' - it's pretty much what the others said. Runescape's not a chat room. Training consumes a large portion of RS, it's what gives us access to more content.

Grinding is a means to an end. You get something, then you have fun with it.

You have to grind if you want to access the most interesting content of the game. But you also have to take the time to appreciate what you've unlocked. That's kind of the point. If you don't appreciate what you worked to get, then the grinding was pointless.

The game revolves around skilling. Hanging out with a bunch of people is great, but most people play to have fun, and [apparently] the only way to have fun in this game is to spend otherwise productive hours levelling one's avatar.

I'm torn between two factions, obviously. I like having fun in the game, but grinding gets so damn boring, I don't mind just talking to in-game players.

I agree. Usually when ppl are at their member's state, they skill/quest/train all day. What happens when they go to f2p? LOOK AT VARROCK SQUARE.

Let me play my game, which I pay for every month, how I wish to play it, ok?

Did you stop to think that maybe some of us play Runescape as a device to relieve stress from our otherwise busy and crazy work and school schedules. I go to a musical theatre conservatory in New York City, the most non-stop city in the world, and I have class from 8 in the morning to 5:30 at night, then usually have rehearsals from 6 pm to about 11pm to 12am. On my weekends if I have time to play I use it as a way to get my mind off my work and more on whatever I wish it to be on, and for goodness sake, if I choose that to be skilling, then so be it. I have goals I'd like to complete on this game, and it makes me happy to complete them.

If I came on Runescape to find online virtual friends who I will never meet in real life (most likely) and don't play much of a significant role into my profession of real social life, then I would hang around a bank and talk all day. However, since I'd prefer to do something a little more productive with my time, I train. There is nothing wrong with that.

So stop being selfish in thinking we all have to have the same agenda as you on this game.

Why log into rs to hang out with people when you can just hang out with someone in real life? lol.

why train skills when you could e doing something useful in real life! u just got pwned! lol

infact why do anything in rs because u can all do something similar to it in real life?

we play rs to get away from rl life and because it is enjoying. i dont understand why ppl constantly grind skills rather than spend some time chilling out.

Exactly. You should only do things you enjoy. Like I said, everything we do is a waste of our time in the long run. Life isn't permanent. Live for the moment - whatever that may mean to you.

I somewhat agree. Making friends is a tad difficult to do nowadays and there aren't many newbs anymore.

But overall it doesn't affect me too much. I've made my friends somehow somewhere, and like them. :)

However, I don't like to 'chill' in certain parts in any game. I'll rather do something and talk with my friends. Thats why I loved the Clan Chat update. <3:

Thats exactly what i think. Some people, like me, just arent interested in the social aspect of MMOs (heck, im not that interested in the social aspect of life <,<). If im skilling and a random guy talks to me, i'll usually talk to him too, because its the polite thing to do, not because im really interested in being his friend. I like being in clans, because of the hunts, raids, wars, etc, not because of the chat. In the end, you do what you enjoy, you cant expect everyone else to enjoy the same things you do, what you can do, however, is to look for people that share your opinions and hang out with them, im sure in a big game like RS there are more people that think like you.

Yeah, suggesting that people with a dangerous predisposition towards addiction replace Runescape with drinking is a great idea.

I guess you're right. Back in 2005, when I was a noob (I still am, maybe an experienced noob :P ), you could easily find help or even a friend.

I didn't realise I will get this far at the beggining. Everytime I start to recall the old times, I always think about my old friends. Even tho we were noobs, we didn't think about that so much. My friend was showing off with his staves set :D, duels on lvl 2 wild (we returned the stuff ofcourse), steel axe trips on hobgoblins :P. Yeah, these were the best times in my career. If I could, I would meet with them again, even tho I am darn lvl 105 F2P.

Well, all that changed when some kids came around. 1337 PKers they call themselves. Everybody started to train skills (to "own") insanely. The game atmosphere changed, but I kept on playing. Then bots and stuff, people got more greedy, then Jagex's "great" updates. And I got informed that my old friends play Tibia.

I guess that's the way it goes. Got to a new clan, met great people, and I sometimes feel like back in those "nooby" times. Yeah, I've chosen a good clan to be in.

In conclusion, even now you can find great friends, that care about others, don't spend all day skilling, but it's not like it was back then. You just need to search friends in good places.

Sorry for my chaotic english.

I agree, I remember back when I was a noob in f2p and used to just "chill" and hang with friends, but yeah it is a different community now, but I usually just pm or use clan chats :) but I do occasionally "hang out" with friends still.
