Ah I remember that old home screen and world-select page from when I first played! : *nostalgia*

 

Unfortunately I only leared about the Printscreen button about two years after I started playing so I don't have any pictures lol.

 

 

 

Wierd to think they actually voted for things that we now take for granted like level requirements for armour and such. I love the personal touch where (I'm assuming Andrew Gower) says:

 

"Update: Unfortunately I've had to put the player limit back to the original 5000. Despite upgrading my kernal, drivers, and improving the efficieny of my network code, the linux operating system still crashes if I try for more connections per box! I hate linux! :-) However I am hoping to get some additional servers to increase the capacity fairly soon. "

Anyway, does anyone else remember the main page having two skeletons with scimitars around the big "Play Here" button? Sorry, I don't have a pic; I really wish I did.

I was looking at the pics that Runescapew44 posted and I can't believe how much Runescape has changed in the 3 years since I started playing. I remember the main page and everything and I even remember when Farming was released. Quite amazing.

I prefer to thinof the RSC guys as the ancient crowd. I myself joined about a week after RS2 beta ended. I really didn't understand the game back then (I seem to rember being a year under age or something too, but I did that enough times that I don't know unless I look at the update archives). I rember when level 20 anything was good, protect prayers were near immpossible, and level 50 combat people were powerful (from my perspective). I rememeber dragon items being insanely expensive, and even teh god armours were pretty immpressive and rare. I have seen the F2P world become a demo as P2P cesed to be an extension.

 

 

 

I have seen myself change too. For the first few years of F2P, I was forever bored when skilling and would pounce on any opourtunity to help someone with a quest (this really started about a year after doing all free quests because it allowed me to relive them too). Now, my time is precious to me and while I will often offer some help via pms, I don't have time to go help people. Also, as a member, I have had to give intructions to find places all over the map. I have learned that most players before were either ignorant of the world map or couldn't open it, so giving directions was not fun. Now that we have HD and a world map that anyone can open (since its built into the game) I have realised that apparently 50% of members have never looked at the world map and 40% either won't or are to stupid to find anything. It has made me very cinical about giving directions even if its 20 steps away because I am astounded by peoples lack of navigational ability.

 

 

 

Players were not always so clueless. Or more to the point they may have had much less actual knowledge, but they could help themselves. They could do cooks assitant with having a panic attack, 2 tantrums and a whole lot of general begging and mopeing when asked to find the other side of a freaking bridge. Now most players couldn't find their own arse with both hands (in real life)

The good old days... : After RS2 came out, I thanked God that spells couldn't 'fail' to cast anymore. Also, RuneCrafting wasn't as big a thing for me as some people.

 

 

 

I remember that I had *just* started out in Classic before RuneScape 2 came out. Good old days, too. I, unfortunately, moved to Members' for those new graphics! Now my level 3 main (RSC) is still level 3 instead of level 73 or so.

 

 

 

Nonetheless, I still miss it, even though I was only part of it for a time.

That's from March 2002. I started playing in Feburary of 2001.

I remember playing for quite a while, maybe up to a year before the RS2 Beta.

 

 

 

Seeing that they where going to introduce runecrafting, and assuming that it was going to be an add-on to normal crafting. Best RS mistake I ever made because I went from single figured level to 40 in a few days and then discovered that it was a completely new skill when the Beta came out.

 

 

 

Glad I didn't waste too much time playing the beta either!!

These are about the only pics I could find of the older RS2 days. I don't think I even knew how to take screenies back in my RSC days :(. Oh well, at least there are 3 differences in the number of skills the game had you can compare with.

I miss the old days ... the game itself has improved very well, but I don't like the changes in the website. Though I've been playing for about 2 and a half years, there's been some massive changes since then. I can't imagine 6-7 years ago..

well in rsc when best spell was fire blast lvl 59 u only needed level 67 ( or was it 69?) level in magic to never fail a spell. ;)

 

or simply 10 levels higher than the spell you were using to never fail.

i just started playing regularly again about a year ago and currently have a level 97 with 249qp and a total level of 1438

 

which in my opinion is pretty good considering i've taken several breaks from runescape lasting from a couple weeks to over a month since starting to play again
