"Quick" chat. Pull the other one Jagex. -_-"

 

 

 

Right, I am here to rant about Quick Chat. I have no problems with people using it, muted, can't be bothered to type, underage, whatever, I don't mind. My problem is that it takes so long to make a conversation with it, or say anything! Maybe it's just me, but it's SLOWER than typing out the message. First, you must figure out WHERE the thing you want to say is, find it isn't there, try somewhere else, find it then say it. The person you are talking to has probably by now gone away tired waiting. PLEASE Jagex, make it faster to use! Or is it just me failing?

If you use quick chat relugarly it can be much quicker than typing tbh,

 

Pressing Enter, E, R, 6, or something is faster than typing "what weapon are you using" for example

 

 

 

Anyway if you dont like it dont use it, its an alternative to typing things out not a solution for lazy bastards who just cant be arsed to type -.-

Using quickchat is like learning another language. Simply learn fast combinations for the things you NEED to say. The idea is, you keep it short and sweet ;)

Well I guess "quick" is kind of misleading, but it is flashier than "muted people and easy spam" chat. Just try to learn the hotkeys for the different categories if you plan on using it extensively.

Well, you know those new micro-keyboards that you use? 5 keys controlled by your fingers and used in certain combinations to create letters, words, and numbers. Small and slow, but at least it works. Same with quickchat. It's definitely requires less key strokes, it just takes time to learn. When one switches from a normal QWERTY keyboard to a Colemak or Dvarock (don't btw, Colemak first always) you need to learn how to use the new keys. Once you do, they are much more efficient to use. Don't bother using quickchat if you cant use it though, there is always still the normal chat to use!

 

 

 

And yes, it is really quick. No sarcasm either. There's no better way to prove I really do have 93 woodcutting and 80 construction. :P

If you've been muted as long as I have, you'll be pro at using it.

Most cellphones dont have QWERTY keys (unless you buy it for that) but with the 'quick' (word/T9) function, I can rattle a message off rather fast.

 

 

 

Its all about learning how to do it quickly.

I like the cellphone analogy for this. Personally I'm so used to the QWERTY keyboard, I can't type with any indication of speed on a cellphone for any reason. Of course, there are those that have gotten used to it, and know its quirks. Same thing goes for QuickChat -- the more you use it, the more proficient you'll get in it.

It probably depends on your typing speed if QC is faster or slower. I usually don't use QC unless my hands are occupied with doing something else, then QC might be faster.

using quickchat is like using a stenography keyboard. it takes a long time to master, but it is really fast once you're good at it...

QuickChat is like typing. The more you type, the faster you are at typing. The more you use QuickChat, the faster you are at using it.

 

 

 

If you don't like it, and aren't forced to use it on a daily basis, (if you were you wouldn't be complaining) then just don't use. Whatever is in QuickChat you can type, so if you can type faster than you can move your mouse, do that.

I don't use Quick Chat regularly because.. I can type faster if I type the sentences manually :lol:

 

 

 

I use it when someone asks me for levels (specially woodcutting). That way it's less likely that I'm lieing.

if you know what you want to say, and the exact language, just press "enter enter", type it in, and then you'll get search results.

 

Its what I do.

I do wish that for those of us that are muted if what we typed was a quickchat phrase it would send it to the public chat, I hate having to enter-enter for simple things as lol or having to hit enter-g-s-1 for :) and similar

People who use quick chat often, like young players and/or mutes, can get the hang of it really quick, especially with the shortcuts.

 

 

 

But for people who dont use it often, I agree. It can get pretty difficult to use. But thats because were so used to just typing out our messages. I dont think theres a problem with Quick Chat. And if it could be quicker, then Jagex would fix that.

Yeah, that and proving you really have the level you say you do. Best way to shut up a liar is to tell them to say there level through quickchat. I met a guy with 99 Fishing, 70 str (I think it was str) and 10 hp. All from barbarian fishing

agreed, although I think it could be improved on a bit. Maybe if they let you have a couple of prechossen favourit phrases, or the ones you used most often near the top.

 

 

 

Basically Quick Chat is good for the muted and determined, but Quicker Chat would be excellent for everyone. Still it is the "year of updates" so maybe it'll get some loving before 2010 :-)
