I wish they had it in Singapore, then I could finally become a member. My parents won't let me, says I'll become addicted to it. :(

Yea, if only they released it in Singapore. More of my real life friends would play Runescape instead of bashing its graphics.

But who knows, if it is successful enough maybe they will eventually. Jagex actually released 2 Singapore servers in November 2005 but were shut down due to lag and overprice-ness.

Break the Walls down!

This, is a stupid idea, IMO.

Target stores throughout the US? They already have enough payment options. How many kids in the US don't have a phone to pay for their members? How many kids in the US don't have parents with credit cards? How many people in the US don't already have PayPal?

IMO, this should have been in the other continents first. They already get a hell lot of subscribers from the US already. This option will just give them maybe, another 1k subscribers, compared to continents on the southern side, like Australia, Asia. Does Jagex have any idea how big an effect of subscribers they will get? Hell, if the Chinese in China started using prepaids, Jagex won't have to deal with the credit card frauds anymore. Although, the RWT factor is another thing.

Long story short: Pretty dumb when the US already has almost all the already existing subscription options.

I've been waiting all week for PK worlds.

Instead we get a new payment option.

Hurry up on the new worlds, Lagex!

If you jump into a river in Paris, you're insane. If you jump into a river in Egypt, you're in denial.

I think it's good from a business point of view. Will net Jagex a nice bit of cash from the younger players, especially around Xmas. Now there really is no excuse for a f2p American not to get members.

Nice marketing ploy of them releasing it around the PvP worlds.

The only downside I can see is a mass influx of new members would cause the member worlds to be crowded once again, especially with some of them going over to PvP. However if Jagex release more servers it will be OK.

It was annoying earlier this year, before the new servers were released, as f2p servers were emptier at peak times than the p2p ones. Part of the reason I got members 3 years ago was there sales pitch of less crowded worlds.

1. The USA has a bigger population than most countries. A bigger, richer population with almost every house having a computer. Plus they have great big stores, great big stores which are Nationwide. It will take Jagex minimal effort to agree distribution to an entire continent. Yes Asia is a bigger continent but sadly it isn't as rich and each country has it's own stores and therefore would need it's own agreement.

2. RWD is the the exchange of real life money for Runescape goods. I.E £10 for 10mil GP. This isn't going to change anything. The only way RWT could come into play is if you gave someone your username and password along with some money and got them to level for you. However you can do this with any account, a pre-pay card isn't going to make it any easier.

I'm glad they did this; I know several people who will benefit. :P

My grandma has a discount on all things at target stores.

Now i just have to fly over to the us. :wall:

haha so does mine! This is my way to buy membership!

what i'm doing now:

https://linktr.ee/student1

This is a really good idea on Jagex's part - now I don't have to go thru the whole process of a check, and my parents will be happy because they don't have to put their credit card online (and it's instantaneous, whereas a check can take a week or two).

Although those prices are higher than cool =\. But I suppose with inflation, making the card design, and shipping it to the US (or even producing it in the US) does jack some stuff up... although it's $20 more than what a year used to cost (before the membership price increase).

Still works for me though (might be a bit embarrassing walking into a Target and buying RuneScape :? )

No, you can pay for an extra version for 5 dollars. Not as nearly as good as the jump from our f2p to p2p, but

Not that I would know this.

But not when the people themsleves don't. I may bike a few miles to get one. Meh mom will never know. ^_^

Target is like a 5 minute bike from my house. \'

But I'm probably not going to buy the card. F2P is good enough, and I'll spend more time on schoolwork than RS.

instead they just buy it from the local toystore.

Target isn't a toy store. It's a department store.

It's just the same when you ask mommy if you can buy something with your own money when she goes shopping.

Eh, there are a lot of parents who still don't trust using their credit cards online or don't want to be bothered with dealing with a subscription.

I really liked this update I don't have to bother my parents to mailing in a membership or asking them to use there card

If it really in Singapore, i will buy 90 days! :D Hope come out in Singapore End of This Year in 7-Eleven cause many of my friends in my class wanna be Member. Btw, that skillcape is Sailing skillcape.

I kinda agree with the last post above me.

Jagex needs to extend more payment options to those in Asian countries.

In most Asian countries, the culture is more conservative and not as liberal or as free as in many western countries. Not all of us have the advantage of Credit Cards or usage of Paypal due to restrictions from parents. For those without said restrictions, well, lucky them.

PayByCash is troublesome in Asia, and I am quite sure we have 3-4 options in Asia *at the most* without needing to import prepaid cards and what not.

Yes, Singapore once hosted 2 RS servers, but they were taken down.

Guess what I just went and bought a card! I'm happy Jagex did this this is my 1st membership.

Also to answer some questions I saw:

the prices are $7.95 for 30days or $22.50 for 90days(if you subscribe full year buying the 90 day only saves you less than $6 a year)

and the skill cape on it: it just looks like a blue cape with white lining on the sides, also you might have thought it was a skill cape because there's a feint image of a compase I think overlapping the cape

Good idea, however, what about us British??

Jagex are a UK company, with HQ in the UK, yet we're left out :(

Its unneccesary in the UK tho because there are other methods of paytment that are probably even easier than prepaid cards. For example Splash Plastic (prepaid Maestro Card) which can be used for buying anything online not just Runescape and you can top it up in any Post Office, any shop with the PayPoint logo or top up packs available in other stores.

I assume they stack, so if someone bought two 90 days it would give 180? or do you have to wait till credit runs out?

i wouldn't know why you could, you can purchase (with a check, cash etc) more than a month at a time, so why not?

Then someone said something about also having to pay tax.

This isn't true. Its similar to buying a iTunes card, you don't pay tax on it because you are buying 'money' if the card says $25 on it, then you give the cashier 25 dollars and you're on ur way.

Hmmmm i think i might do that for next semester... or sooner... depending on how quick i can find a job lol.
