What is the motivation behind these names?

Before I even begin, this is not a rant; this is an honest question.

 

 

 

What is the motivation behind names like, "omgstr4lyfe", "3hitkou", "strpur4ev", etc.

 

 

 

We get it, your a pure, why would you advertise that? I thought the point of being a pure is to surprise and K.O. your opponent. I really doubt I would want to fight someone with a name like "99rangekou".

 

 

 

The names are corny, pointless and a dime a dozen. They are EVERYWHERE.

 

 

 

Even in a non-pvp world I see about a hundred of these an hour. Not even exaggerating..

 

 

 

So, I ask again, what is the motivation for this?

I guess I can understand that.

 

 

 

I remember about 2 years ago, reading the Rune HQ guide to making a pure, and the author mentioned, "Make sure to give yourself a kool name, like "strpure99ko"." I remember even THEN thinking of how corny it was.

 

 

 

I don't think I remember ever hearing about a successful pure with a name like that.

 

 

 

Hiei_The_PK, Elve_Ranger, Kids_Range etc. etc.; Even though Hiei had PK in his name he was still original. All of them have gone down in the Hall of Fame of PKing.

I hate all that leetspeak trash and numbers in pure names these days. When I made my pure I simply named it "Pure Campy", I am a pure, and people call me Campy, simple enough.

Quite simply, it is used to throw people off. When the person they attacked sends them running, tail between the legs, the defender will probably be either A. really upset that a self-proclaimed PKer ran from a fight or B. laughing so hard that they suffer heart injury. Either way, they won't be on the top of their game, so the Pure's friend or friends can attack and claim a victory from the distracted player.

Almost all usernames people have suck, not just the name of pkers. I can just go on the highscores, pick a random username, and it's going to be a really stupid name. Just did: Bigdawg20050. What kind of a stupid name is that? And again: Pepar Kakan. Wtf? And again...: Bigfoot139. Anyway, you see the point.

I see your point. No creativity whatsoever. They think it sounds cool just because it's a pure name; add a bit of creativity. And every number takes away the coolness factor of having that name by half. Sorry "s1r pu43 17492", it just isn't cool. The next guy with my levels that has the name "barney the dino" I will let him kill me just for the sheer epicness of that name. Sometimes, of course, names are good. I think my name "O H K O U" is pretty decent. Or I could have the same ego everyone else does.

Well, it can be difficult to come up with a good name sometimes, you want something unique yet it has to be striking. Calling your character Bob or Jack is not really going to be a good name( no offense to those of you who are named Bob or Jack).

Also my name has a background, 785 is a fairly important number to me (and so is 23) and Wizzkid is what people call me or Wizz or Sarcastic Smart [wagon] >.> Much more creative than your name it can be read in 1 second it's short and simple, at least I don't lash out and start assuming things next time get your facts straight. :shame:

A bit like the old saying don't throw stones if you live in a glass house. I never liked it personally but I think it goes well with this situation. You are in no place to critizise anyone elses name.

Most of them probably don't understand it; you would've had to have read a book to understand what a book is, I presume. :lol:

 

 

 

I don't think that "pure" names are inherently bad; it's just that they are SO overused and cliched that many have simply become annoying. The people who can actually make good (emphasis on good) pure names should be the most upset about this, because so many others have tarnished their creativity with these generic rsn's containing 9 different numbers that are supposed to be letters + "pk" or "bh" or some variant at the end. (I'm not referring to anyone in particular, just going with whatever's off the top of my head.) Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, though, so who knows.
