Is the fire going out?

For many years i have played runescape on one account or another (before settling on my current one).

I remember my early days on this account, struggling along to get my levels, pushing alot of the money i earned doing this, to raise that skill this much, and i enjoyed it. my mate (not gonna name) had higher levels then me, and we had a nice little game to see if i could catch up or surpass him...

anyway, once the trade limit came out, a fair few of my mates and i were annoyed as we used to help each other, giving each other this or that, or carrying things to help them with their tasks, only to find that we could no longer do so.

so as my mates drifted into the mists, i continued on, doing slayer and other bits and bobs, and as time has gone on, i find myself logging in less and less.

what happened to the fun? what happened to the thrill of killing that monster?

has the fire gone out?

Yes, if and only if you cannot find enjoyment anymore in this *massive* game. Seriously, there's tons of content out there; try your hand at Mort'ton or even the new PvP worlds.

[i never used to be a big fan of PvP, but this update made it a lot more fun to participate in it.]

Quit. It is the most satisfying thing you can ever do with RS, and all of the free time you get is great.

(Unless you just get addicted to another game(Guitar Hero for me))

I shall take my flock underneath my own wing, and kick them right the [bleep] out of the tree. If they were meant to fly, they won't break their necks on the concrete.
So, what is 1.111... equal to?

10/9.

Please don't continue.

I partially agree with Wild Goat here, you should have to force yourself to play. I don't see how people would play so much though that them playing or not playing would have a significant effect on free time.

Godwars hasnt been out for a year, I dont see how you've done it in the past 3-4.

Either do what you enjoy, or dont do anything at all. Stop playing. Its not a job. Its a game.

And if you dont want to quit, just set goals. Id rather have three 99s than 60 in everything, so focus on one area, and set a goal. Once you do it, set another goal. Now combine them and do something useful. (IE : Set a goal for 99 range, then 99 defence, then rape the PvP worlds)

Yep, the fire is dying.

I used to do almost the same things as you described doing with your mates.

Now that I can't do that and for example: I don't have to go to Varrock to buy anything, It feels like I'm alone. No interaction needed anymore. I like the GE but when I went to Varrock to buy something I didn't just go there to buy stuff, there was always someone I knew there and as simple as buying, let's say 100 Runite ores (I usually hanged out in the Anvil place near the west bank) could take me hours because I spent time chatting with people and just having fun.

Now it's all about skilling/training alone and talking on MSN/IRC/Clan Chat. I almost never meet anyone I know in RS.

And quitting is a good idea but the only thing keeping my playing is my clan.

I could delete half of the people on my friends list and they would never contact me since they quit but if it was 1 year ago, I'd have to have alot more space in my friends list.

I agree bini, I miss the interaction that used to occur before GE such as world 1 market. It was an exciting thing and there was always potential to find deals, now with pre-set prices the game seems alot more 'robotic' or 'colder'. I also miss the ability to give and recieve items from friends (or even strangers). A stranger once gave me free Saradomin armor when I was still rather new to the game, I still have this armor and it meant a lot to me back then. Also I gave many gifts to friends, for example once when training at lessers someone died and dropped some Guthix armor which I gave to a friend. This kind of interaction brought the community closer and without these things Runescape has become more of a solo game for me. Sure I can talk to friends in clan chat but it is just not the same.

I'm quite certain that you can use your imagination to pull some tricks up out of your sleeve, if you really want to keep yourself entertained in RuneScape. That's what the Role-playing servers exist for, I guess -- man, I miss the days when my imagination could really take the gameplay to a whole new level...

Anyway, as for the "quit" statement, don't you realize that this is a game and not a job/career? Quitting this game means you'll only pick up another in a matter of seconds, so that advice is actually useless. Like you even said, wild_goat, you can get addicted to other games...

Well I remember the days when everything was pure fun and you didn't have a care in the world. Well these days it's less fun but theres still alot of fun it just comes after some training. Personally I was all skiller I skilled and enjoyed it until I eventually maxed the skill. No more leveling is awesome but also sad for me because leveling is fun getting new things and such. I got bored played alot of castle wars with barrage(mage is one of my favorite cw skills) and decided to start combat again. Bought myself a gs I've never liked the BGS and I have owned it for a very little amount of time. I decided to finally sell my ZGS that I had for CW and got from the ge when there were impossible to buy. I sold it and bought DFS to go with my whip I love the DFS and I still have it with my SGS. I trained defence which I had always loved since f2p not being hit is so ftw. So I started combat and GWD which is loads of fun. The point of this story well I condensed it is that there is alot of things in the game just try them out and if you have truely tried everything and are still bored then your fire is dead and is not coming back.

I basically quit after the wildy nerf last year. I did go on a few times to check out some of the updates, but apart form that nothing. When I saw that they would be releasing new pvp-worlds i thought to myself that this would be a fun thing to do, so i created a new account, and I am currently working on making it a completely self-reliant pker. It just a case of finding stuff you find fun (i.e. for me its skilling (fishing and wcing mainly) and pking).

Hope that helps

It depends on the persons likes and dislikes.

some people like me enjoy skilling and making/achieving goals (which there are alot of) so to me the fire is still burning.

but for others who just wanna kill things and get rich the fire has ben extinguished -.-

Games become less fun after a while. That's common practice. You've said you've been playing for 3-4 years... I mean, how many games have you played for such a long time?

If you don't like the game anymore, it ain't weird or something. Just quit. Perhaps you'll find yourself coming back after a while, for example when a new piece of content has been released.

Personally, I've been playing this game for 7.5 years and found myself quitting a few times.

Sorry to disappoint you, but the fire has not gone out.

You're growing up and finding this game increasingly boring. Partly this is because you subconsciously associate Runescape with being childish, but mostly this is because you're experiencing more activities in your life that are newer and subsequently more exciting than sitting in front of your computer.

This game still captures the heart and attention of players who have the time to dedicate to achieving their goals.

Given time, you'll either decide that Runescape was a very fun part of your life and come back to it, or you'll abbandon it for some new fun activity, or you'll find yourself somewhere in between.

If Runescape doesn't thrill you anymore, then maybe you should take a break for awhile.

I love how so many people have quit this game, yet still stay on fan sites (forums) telling others to quit because their fire has gone out.

Sure has gone out if you're still posting on the sites. Good job.

Man, I really do love Runescape, and I'm sure if it was a real person I would of asked it to marry me by now.

has the fire gone out?

Or is this burning, an eternal flame *burst into song*

Ot: no, not at all really, if you play anything long enough you'll get bored of it. A day will come for all of use when the Rs we used to know and love no long appeals to us.

Theres a fine line between not listening and not caring,

I like to think I walk this line every day.

Pinning blame on Jagex is like trying to put pants on an old man.

You both know he needs them, but he'll just keep dancing around, avoiding them at all costs.

sometimes a break, whether permanent or temporary, can help.

perhaps make new friends, join a clan or group with similar interests as you, impart your wisdom on those who may not have experienced all that you have. become the guy with higher levels that motivates others chase your highscores.
