Improving Ranged and Magic PvP for Free-To-Play

Greetings all,

 

 

 

a while ago, the new Player-versus-Player was introduced.

 

It gave some new and nice objects, sadly for Free-To-Play, there's only Corrupt Dragon equipment, which leaves out Rangers and Mages.

 

What can be done to fix this?

 

Below are my suggestions:

 

 

 

 

 

For Rangers:

 

To begin with: Make Yew Shortbow and Yew Longbows Free-To-Play.

 

They aren't useful for Members (or barely useful) and Free-To-Players don't hit higher by using one.

 

Perhaps make the Yew Comp Bow Free-To-Play aswell.

 

That isn't needed, but it's a nice add-on, seeing it's worth 818 gp (price of 11 november). It's almost worthless for a Member.

 

It would only rise in price if it was Free-To-Play, but again, not needed.

 

 

 

Next thing Rangers need: Corrupt Rune Arrows.

 

They work the same as Rune Arrows, they need to be shot from a Yew Bow or higher but Corrupt Rune Arrows break every shot! Shoot = break.

 

This sounds fair enough.

 

 

 

As for the armor: Make Blue Dragonhide Free-To-Play.

 

The set is currently worth 9613 coins (price of 11 november), meaning it's almost useless.

 

Again, making it Free-To-Play, the price can only rise, and Free-To-Players have slightly better armor.

 

Again, you can make the Trimmer Sets Free-To-Play aswell, as it would only rise in price.

 

Another option is to make a Corrupt Red Dragonhide set. But Dragon is a lot better than Red Dragonhide in my opinion and certainly not worth the 30 minutes.

 

 

 

 

 

For Mages:

 

When talking about spells, there are two suggestions:

 

1) Create Corrupt Blood Runes, the Free-To-Play version of Blood Runes, but these can't be runecrafted and can only be obtained trough killing other players.

 

All the 'Wave-Spells' would become Free-To-Play, Snare would become Free-To-Play and perhaps Teleblock.

 

In this case, the regular, runecraftable Blood Rune would still be a Member's Object.

 

2) Make Blood Runes Free-To-Play. Simply make them Free-To-Play. (No idea if some monsters on Free-To-Play worlds should drop them. Perhaps? Else the price might rise too much?)

 

The next thing for this suggestion: Magic Awakening Gloves. These gloves can once again, only be obtained by killing other players in Player-versus-Player. They give a small Magic Attack and Magic Defense bonus.

 

Once equiped, these gloves crumble to dust after 30 minutes.

 

When wearing the gloves, you are able to cast 'Wave-Spells', Snare and perhaps Teleblock.

 

This means, without the gloves, Blood Runes are actually useless for Free-To-Players.

 

 

 

As for armor: According to the 60-requirement of Dragon, Combat Robes should be Free-To-Play.

 

So perhaps make them available for Free-To-Players in Fist of Guthix?

 

Or perhaps make currupted version of Splitbark or Mystic?

Mixed on this, for the ranged yeah for the yew bow, and the rune arrows as corrupt seem a bit weird. But yeah overall the bow+arrows = good.

 

 

 

As for the blue dhide? Noty. Just no :\

 

 

 

And for the mage, how does a blood rune be corrupt..?

I dont need a siggy no moar.

forget it, just make it the gloves only, I like the idea of the gloves, but no entangle, maybe make a lower lvl teleblock ?

The problem is that range and magic both expend arrows and runes, causing melee gear to still last longer.

 

 

 

Also, unless you manage to retrive a huge amount of corrupt arrows, it wouldnt really be worth pking with them seeing as you'd probably waste them due to the ammount of runners.

 

 

 

I'd rather see corrupt armours and weapons e.g. staffs, dhide, robes, bows. instead of runes/arrows.

I got a better idea (and no support for this thread's ideas) ... Take away the Corrupt Dragon from Melee. :ugeek:

 

 

 

Seriously, think about it... Melee happened to be already at the top of the food chain, hitting like 27 max in F2P... That's far more than the '18 max of Range', and the '16 max of Mage'... And now they are hitting 30+!!! Why did Jagex make them any stronger? There was simply no good reason to do so. Once again, Melee became overpowered, while Mage/Range suffered. Like as if Jagex had a Conspiracy going on... And we'd just barely gotten new stuff for Mage/Range, too. Literally, the one group that is not deserving of the stuff they have available, is Melee... :(

But I reckon yew should go F2P, maybe not Blue D'Hide though, I can't remember the last time I saw a yew short/longbow being used? Alching doesn't count. :|

I agree with the removal of Corrupt Dragon, but as the other DV said this will still not even it up

 

Therefore, keep the idea of Yews being allowed in F2P, and wave spells in F2P

 

 

 

However, I also think that crossbows should be added to F2P - up to Steel perhaps. Just for a bit more option

Pff I don't care about that corrupt dragon, I haven't seen it being used that much either. Don't know the current prices but I know they're high, and this for 30 minutes. So I think this price balances it a bit, when you pay that much for the measly 30 minutes, than the weapon you bought better be good, and it should be powerfull.

 

 

 

And I kinda agree with the topic starter, magic and ranged do need some new stuff for pvp but I'm not sure about all the stuff.

I think the main reason Yew Bows aren't F2P is because they are a popular alching item, and there would be endless rants about how alching is ruined. Remember that f2p outnumbers p2p about 10 to 1 (I believe). Consider:

 

 

 

-Yew Shortbows and Longbows are now F2P. Price skyrockets because people want them for both ranged, pking, and alching.

 

-Alching price of yew bows would remain the same. That means they would most likely rise by at least 500gp, then their rise would slow down after f2p alchers deem it not worth the cost.

 

-F2P rangers, however, would make the price continue to rise

 

-What shall all the p2p alchers alch? Magic longbows then. The overflow would cause those to skyrocket as well.

 

 

 

Perhaps only yew shortbows and composites then? I see too much of a problem with the longbows.

i dont see why longbows are even around other then alcing... there are certain circumstances when its used in range but rarely does those come to pass. So actually p2p can just have all longbows to themselves and just let f2p have short bows. it would lower the price and let a wider range of bows be able to alc without loosing alot of money.

 

 

 

also i support just takeing corrupt completely out... that or lowering the price and putting a cap on it so it doesnt go above the regular. right now its insane to buy any of the weps

Everything sounds good and balanced to me. P2P would benefit from this update too (more profit for Fletchers/Crafters).
