Father named child Adolf Hitler, and asks for tolerance

I don't see the problem, it's only a name. It's only a value for a person to verbally identify themselves. If they have a mental confrontation with that value, it's that individuals problem.

Well what happens are kids pick on him and bully him for his name.

Imagine what would happen if when your teacher calls roll in 6th grade or something (where kids usualy have to go to a separate school and make new friends) she yells "Ben Dover" and all the kids laugh at him limiting his friends.

It's the same concept as having a misshaped nose. People are going to bully you over it, but you didn't choose to have it. Sure, it wasn't the nicest thing for his father to name him that, but a name is a name. You shouldn't be treated any different for it, although we all know it happens. The point is, we shouldn't deny him anything, just because he bares a similar name to a person that some consider to be "bad."

When does it ever work that way? Every school system I've been been to had people coming together rather than getting seperated. Seriously, it's just a name. Adolf was a very common name in Germany before and while he was a child.

lighviolet1lk4.jpg

His name isn't just Adolf though, and again it's not like the family just mistakenly "happened" to have the last name of Hitler.

They purposly named him Adolf Hitler to prove a point, or god knows what. Yes, it is just a name. Yes, it doesn't change who he is on the inside. However other people will not view his name in the same way. I can only imagine that a child with the name of Adolf Hitler is going to get a lot of flak at school if other children catch on, and later on it may develop into getting bullied.

Sure, teachers might be able to avoid it (just say his first name, Adolf) but no doubt that some students would catch on and abuse him for it.

The difference between this and something like, say, bad acne is you can't choose the acne. The parents don't decide if their child has it or not. However the parents have full choice over what the childs name is, so it's pathetic to try and stand on the moral high ground and say "well, it is just a name" because it isn't. The child has to suffer for his parents actions which is just wrong.

yes its wrong that his parents named him that. but whats even more wrong is that children are being raised to believe that this behavior is exceptable and that germans are all evil nazis even though this happened when most of our parents weren't even born. don't agree with how they conveyed their message but it sure is effective.

Me behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home from a party after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Aladin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with seven men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos, Pac man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies who always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! if you had this childhood and loved it put this in your signature!

Wait... what? How did we get from teasing and bullying a child for his name to all Germans being evil nazis? I doubt the parents had that sort of message or else they just would have, you know, given their child a normal German name.

Alright, this is just..... Well, because this site's smiley list is somewhat lacking, I'll use my own image. This should do nicely for most people's opinion on this, even a few Neo-Nazis and other such groups.

Is this guy absolutely nuts, "special", or just plain stupid? All he's doing is condemning his children to 18+ years of Hell because they just could not resist "making a point", AKA (in this case) showing that they want to continue the Holocaust and other stuff related to WW2 era Germany. Is there any WORSE way to do that? -.-

Also, on a few things other people said:

Yes, certain names carry a weight to them. It would be like naming someone something like Nelson Mandela *insert last name*, for example. Doesn't matter what you say, for everyone who knows the person they're named after, they'll be hard pressed to disassociate that person from the one who got stuck with the name. Thus, Rule 36 (I think) of Parenting.

Yes, Hitler was voted in. The dictatorial stuff started later, when he gave himself complete control over Germany, and made it basically impossible for him to be removed from power except by force. Bush, [bleep]er that he is, has yet to try anything like that, so he's not QUITE a dictator.

And lastly, the swastika is considered a mark of evil because of it's extreme ties to Nazis. There's various random groups all across the planet which use some sort of variation on it (Buddhist *caged bird symbol*, Native American *a peace symbol I think*, and a few others that don't come to mind right now), but the one that got the most attention of ANY of them was the Nazis. They used it to such an extent that until the word Nazi is wiped from the collective memory of the human race (and probably a little bit after), that symbol will ALWAYS remind people of that group of demonic sons-of-[female dog]es. Hell, even whenever I read the NARUTO series, the seal put on Neji reminds me of them.

why is he going to bullied? is he going to be bullied just for that name or the fact that that name is associated with one person even though there have been lots of german's named adolf. in other words sterotyping.

How do we know their "message" though? Perhaps people are scrutinizing to much as to why he choose that name, rather than the value of the name. Sure he'll be treated differently, but only because people associate that specific name with a figure that they deemed as unacceptable. If anything though, I think it'll be the opposite. There's already a low percentage of bullies, and I'm sure the numbers dwindle when they associate that name with power. If I was a bully, I'd leave that kid alone, perhaps because of moral reasons or even fear, how do we know this kid won't grow up to be some sort of teen body builder? If anyone's deserving of blame, it's the people that do bully/tease him because of it. We should look past these minuscule differences to see that he's a completely different person with an unfortunate similarity in names with a previous figure.

You're only feeding the flame. You assume that the point he was trying to make, if one at all, was because he wants to continue the Holocaust. Which is unfortunate, because it's a simple stereotype.

It doesn't matter. People didn't want him to be removed for the most part. He helped the economy, and revolutionized Germany, and set standards for countries world wide. When you have power on your side, and back that claim up with mass murder, not many people mess with you.

There are a lot of Germans named Adolf. There is NOT many Germans named Adolf Hitler. It isn't stereotyping at all.

You're trying to make it seem like this is ok. Ok, whatever, maybe he'll become this crazy strong kid that people will fear. There is an equal chance he'll be a normal kid, or he will be a kid who never ends up being popular or liked due to his name. It is not an unfortunate simularity more as it is a complete copying of the name. You can't try and say that the parents didn't want to copy the name, because they did. His full name is something like Adolf Hitler Campbell.

It's just a lot of [cabbage] that he has to go through all because his parents wanted to make a statement, or just get attention or god knows what. It doesn't matter what the reason is more than the fact that they gave him a horrible name that is bound to cause issues. People should look past the name, but most people won't. What the [bleep] kid wants to be friends with a child named "Adolf Hitler" anyways? One could only imagine going home and saying to his mom "Hey, can Adolf Hitler come in and play for a bit?"

If you have NO friends and you move to a new school where you dont know anyone and your name is Adolf Hitler you will not have as many friends as you would as if your name was John Smith.

My good friend told me about this story today, and he was absolutly enraged at the fact that this man is naming his children these names (he's jewish, and his grandfather and his grandmother are the only survivors of about 12 members or his family that were sent there.)

I personally dont like the fact that he names his children that name, but too bad theres no law against it or something.

But, on topic, the family does this on purpose. It's not like their last name is Hitler and they wanted to name their kid Adolf, they purposely threw in "Adolf Hitler". There really should be laws against this sort of thing.

I'm pretty sure there was someone in New Zealand who also named their child Adolf (Hitler), and someone stepped in and said it wasn't allowed.

I posted a link to the news story that had that on another board, if you want to see the story yourself, you just gotta look up "Number 16 Bus Shelter Name New Zealand" or something on google.

(Can't be bothered finding the link)

Lazy Bastard. :P

So it appears in New Zealand only will a weird/bizarre name change result in an abuse case if the child experiences bullying due to the weird name. How about you stop the names in the first place?

Don't you mean lazy [bleep]? It'll probably censor it though. D: I have slow interwebz is why. ,_,

Adolf was a very common name in Germany before and while he was a child.

Was? Has it stopped being a common name after Hitler?

I think it would've been okay if the kid was just named "Adolf" without the "Hitler", but I think he would get bullied for that too, if he wasn't living in Germany, I probably would've related Adolf to Hitler and probably mocked him.

(What, I'm just being honest)

It's just a name. Parents should be able to name their kids whatever they want.

I'm starting to get sick of people who think the Jews are the only ones who would get offended at the name Hitler. He wanted to kill (almost) everyone and take over the world (you think he had an assistant named pinky?); he only wanted German people with blond hair and blue eyes. So i'd be gone too, with my brown hair and green eyes.

If I had a child and named him "anti christ " (i'm not giving my last name out online) that doesn't mean he is gonna grow up and become the antichrist. It's just a name, so get over it.

It is wrong to bully someone because of their name but everyone here knows that it will happen anyway.

You're a very [cabbage]ty parent if you knowingly name your kid a name which will lead to a huge amount of bullying. If they wanted acceptance they should've renamed themselves Adolf Hitler and Joycelynn. Not their kids.

Turning your newborn infant into a political statement. Yes, you should have your license to breed taken away. Good God, some of the people on this planet.

The name the child was given is not the issue. The fact they are using it as a tool for publicity is the problem. A child's name is something precious, that they will be forever known by. And the fact is that people are going to identify this person through their name forever.

Exactly. You should be screwing around with your own life, not your child's.

Then let me put it THIS way: How do kids EVER know ANYTHING? Just from walking around. I work with kids alot as a camp counselor, and all the time they things that they really shouldn't know for another 4 years. I say "How do you know that?" "Oh, I just heard it somewhere"

Also, if the deeds that a "name" does are absolutely horrible(In hitler's case) then the name is automatically going to be associated with evil things. The bad deeds really shine through the name...there's nothing you can do to change that.
