Are parent too harsh on Jagex? or misunderstood?

11 year olds shouldn't be playing online games...they'd be better off playing the guitar.

why is this on the news anyways? i can imagine going to school with the news on to me complaining about losing 140 dollars in a computer game. :wall:

Omfg! this has to be the funniest video since "Hitler gets banned." In my opinion little timmy is lucky he is not Perm banned. Also, i think there is a need for a change of title no one is really bashing jagex but rather the people who scammed this kid.

The grand mother was complaining about Jagex not taking action against the perpetrators.

Stupid Jimmy.

I understand that he put lots of time into his acc., but

1) He went to another site, and because it looked like RS (even though he must have been told by the hacker that it isn't RS)

2) He blatantly broke RWT rules

3) He's not even technically old enough to play.

Why wasn't his first intention to do a Virus Scan or something? Who the hell thought, "This'll make the news!"

Obviously the news doesn't care that much, because they didn't bother to even read the rules (although clips are shown on Tutorial Island)

PS. Jagex tells the report that they try to return lost accounts and items to players and have lots of staff on Player Support - BULL[feces]!

And the videos seem to show mixes of RS HD, Classic, and Low Detail?

The parents are really just pretty ignorant in this case. They really don't have much reason to complain about Jagex not taking action against the scammer(s), because technically this kid should be banned anyway. It's impossible for Jagex to catch and ban every single scammer. Even if they do find one, they need sufficient evidence to ban them, and I'm sure that's pretty hard to get. Timmy deserves to be banned just as much as the scammer(s) do. No sympathy from me.

Wow, he admits to breaking rule 12 on television.

Game items must only be exchanged for other items/services within the game. Exchanging game items for items or other benefits in other online games, real-life money or other real-life benefits is not allowed.

His parent should really consider becoming familiar with the rules considering he is under the age of 13.

Strike 1: Admittance to breaking Rule 12 by using $140 to gain more stuff

Strike 2: Failing to participate or read the Rules to avoid getting hacked; not knowing what to do if someone leads you to another site

Strike 3: Not telling his parents that there's an actual PARENTS GUIDE to prevent this kind of [cabbage] from happening.

I must say that he got what he deserved. It's tragic that he got lured like that, but c'mon, the warning signs were everywhere; if he had been playing for as long as he alleges, then he would've inevitably gone down to the Stronghold of Security. It's why it's there.

I have nothing against kids playing RuneScape, but for the love of God, READ UP on simple stuff.

The parent is extremely ignorant in this case. Its clear that she's never even read about RuneScape. If she had she never would have let him RWT, nor would she even have let him play at all, since the game is for age 13 and up. Even still, if he was 11 years old, and he'd been playing for years, doesn't that mean he was 8-9 when he started playing?

This is so wrong on so many levels. I cannot believe that this news agency was not responsible enough to truly paw through Jagex's Terms of Service and see the clearly worded policy about real world trading. The least they could have done was see the official RS rules and mentioned after the comment made by the mother that RWT is considered a violation of the TOS and can lead to your account being terminated. The parents boggle me with how irresponsible they are. Wouldn't the fact that the child is purchasing items from a site other than RuneScape be a red flag for them? The lack of common sense just shocks me. I'm really surprised how the kid was not suspicious when he was asked to join a clan and ended up on a site that looked like a redirect to RS. *sigh* the kid was naive...I do think the parents should have been more responsible.

Just another biased news story on the mass media, with a story.

Typical media.

I like how they said it was a "Rare chance" to join a clan, man, they make it sound like it's impossible to join a clan. I just find it sad he RWT'ed and he lost it.

For some reason, I just laugh when it says "he can act like someone much older, Catching shark" Like shark is a sign of manhood or something,.

Also - why didn't timmy set a bankpin?

"Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable - a most sacred right - a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world."

I love how the reporter made it sound so dramatic. You'd think the kid lost his home or something.

Meh media and sensationalism -.-

That kid's stupid. What's so hard about reading the rules? It's common sense that you NEVER enter your password in a site other than Jagex's. And for the parents, what's so hard about checking what your kid's playing?

Grandma: "I told everybody to give him cash."

Grandma's encouring others to break the rules. Grandma's promoting RWT. I'd ban Grandma's [cabbage] to be honest.

I agree. This is a misunderstanding of the rules, which in my opinion have been rewritten to a point where it should be clear that using real life money to buy "points" could get the character banned, and that Jagex is not responsible for any losses as a result of the character's irresponsibility. They will assist you in retrieving the character, and that's it. They're not going to go do a server roll-back to help you gain your items back, and they're most certainly not going to make those items appear magically in the bank again. It'd be unfair for others who may later wanted want to make those same claims and get denied. Better to not give anyone who gets hacked anything back than give some at all. Fair and simple.

LOL that just made my day tbh fail parents...fail kid.

on topic:

I think it's the parents fault. If I had a kid playing a game, I would get info on that game, as well as the policies

If the parents want to take legal actions I hope they will sue eachother for being stupid.

Timmy is an idiot.

Jagex has things all over telling you not to go to other sites, and for good reason.

Feeling sorry for him is like feeling sorry for someone that got hit by a car cuz they were sleeping in the middle of the street in the dark, camouflaged as street.

He's so good others ask him for help..lol
