March 12, 200917 yr I don't remember learning about any fights during the cold war. I'm usually pretty good at history and have a great memory for the things I learn in history. Though I did have a teacher one time who tried to teach my class that the Jews killed Jesus. Surprisingly he was gone next year. Then the rumor started that he quit and joined the FBI . That one was fun. I'd ask him to tell you where he got his information. Either that or just say you won't listen to that cuz it's not true, and walk out. Ponies!
March 12, 200917 yr haha that's a good one and remember the more true adage that history is written by the victor (look at WWII for instance.) But yes the Cold war is really quite insignificant and I think comparing ideas on it detracts from the original post. The guy's history teacher sounds wacky, at least that's something we can both agree on. I wouldn't call it insignificant. The Cold War did advance us in science, technology, and culture. Would we have space travel, microcomputers, or MTV if it were not for the Cold War? What would our society be like if it never happened? It would be wrong to say that it was the most influential era in history, but it's just as much a crime to dismiss it without discussing the benefits that it bestowed. My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. March 12, 200917 yr What the... :? He shouldn't be allowed to teach, because you guys probably know more than him. Especially since he is making up stuff. My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.
March 12, 200917 yr When you place it in that context yes. But in regards to the authors question (which is the purpose of the thread) and what I have answered, it is insignificant to what it was compared to. The cold war did bring about an age of rapid progress, however, you have to question whether the advances could only have been made in the pressure cooker that was the political climate of the time? Undoubtedly they sped up the development of the space program as this benefited the missile programs of both countries and as trickle effect computers the internet television and nuclear power were all developed in rapid time but have we not come further since then without the tensions of the cold war? I do agree that to dismiss the cold war without due recognition is improper but instead to remember it in the flow of history that spawned from it. I have answered the authors question if you wish to debate history, more than welcome, I have have msn and plenty of time up my sleeve. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.
March 12, 200917 yr So, the message of this thread [and/or any OT thread] is "when in doubt, look for Goddess or barihawk" Besides that, history teachers, are usually crazy. Going on personal experience. Female history teachers, paticularly anicent history, tend to be very nasty. Just a trend I've noticed.
March 12, 200917 yr Listen closely today, tell us what he says. We'll tell if it's real or he's a nutjob. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

I think we would eventually had developed all of this, but certainly not by 2009 and according to the butterfly effect our very existence at the moment would be in question. March 12, 200917 yr There are a lot of teachers and substitute teachers that do not belong in History classrooms. My Sophomore year of High School I had a substitute teacher attempt to teach us that the Holocaust was a hoax and it was all fabricated. Needless say he was never allowed to teach at our school district again. People go to jail here, if they say the holocaust was fake. March 12, 200917 yr Teacher does sound pretty insane, if he carrys on teaching you [cabbage] try to get rid of him. And if i recall the only time Russia and USA have actually fought in recent history was the Allied intervention in the Russian Civil War.

March 12, 200917 yr excluding the mentioned proxy wars(vietnam korea) there was no fighting associated with the cold war. This guy is clearly making stuff up and has to be dealt with. Hopefully you make it to a comprehensive class later and learn proper history. ask him why we never used our nukes during the great war and see the reaction you get. Orthodoxy is unconciousnessthe only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed.

Oh, and do tell, what did happen in the 1986 Battle of Red Square? I'm just dying to know. Command the Murderous Chalices! Oh, and do tell, what did happen in the 1986 Battle of Red Square? I'm just dying to know. I haven't said anything, but now that you mention it, I probably could. He'd give me a detention, but once they found out what I was arguing about I'd be surprised if they really went through with it. On Monday I'm going to bring some of these facts up to him (including the one about why there were no nukes used, which would inevitably happen if it was serious enough to get to Red Square). I'm also going to ask why Russia is still a country ;) Someone said awhile ago that they can't fire teachers of more than twenty years. He's taught here since the 80's so it's close, not sure if it's been the full twenty yet. Get back here so I can rub your butt.

EDIT: Just got back from the God of Knowledge. Wikipedia. Apparently while the U.S. relationship with Russia has been pretty rocky, there has never been a full-scale war, the closest being Vietnam were some Russian mercs fought, though if my definition of mercenary is right, they don't even work for the Russian government, just the highest bidder. You're correct. Well, your teacher's a nutjob. As others have said, bring a tape recorder or something, and let the principal of your school listen to it. Or, invite the principal to your classroom one day. No matter which you do, be sure to post the audio file/video for us to listen/watch...
March 13, 200917 yr Am I the only one that thinks that dizzle should leave the guy just for the laughs? I mean what this guy is teaching sounds hillarious. You don't really learn anything in 8th grade history so just keep him then tell your principle at the end of the year.

As for video, I do have a small, low quality camera that may work but for some reason only Jesus and aliens understand, no audio (it's a tiny $30 Aiptek thing). It's doubtful I'd be able to get it into class but I'm looking for a way (maybe bring a bigger camera with sound in under my jacket, and hope the audio isn't smothered?) I just need something, I sound pretty dumb here without proof. EDIT: riku, maybe I should just leave this guy until the end of the year for the laughs : According to my friend, he learns about The 20's and stuff, but since the depression wasn't until the 30's, there's not really much to know there except trumpets, flapper fashion, and mobsters. Maybe he'll tell us about how the Germans stormed Normandy after the KKK kidnapped Jesus. Get back here so I can rub your butt.
