Orpheus
I get $20 every two weeks for doing stuff around the house, and most of it goes to buying myself food(damn Subway addiction), and saving the rest. I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal. OPEN WIDE HERE COMES THE HELICOPTER.

Uh, I've been doing this on multiple forums for quite a while, inspired by a mod who helped me out a lot during early 2003, here on TiF, who has since retired. As for money, I don't have a computer of my own, and I can't transfer my work between all three of the houses I stay at. And I can't eat candy, I have really soft enamel on my teeth, I'd rot from eating a few pieces. ~Knotch My Gamercard | Click for Blog | Mining Guide | Illumination
stevepole
In high school when I lived at home, I never got allowance but still did chores and everything my parents asked me to do. I never felt cheated not receiving money or anything for it because they did so much more me, and you really don't appreciate it until you start having to pay bills, cook, etc. The only thing I hate is dealing with our horses and hay.. Ever since I've been in college though I've been getting a $350 monthly allowance from my grandparents on top of the money I get to pay rent, and food etc which has been pretty nice I'm not going to lie. :)

Heard of some people making decent money through that. I can vouch for that. I know it works well, filling your locker with gum, energy drinks, candy, and soda makes great money, although it's generally against school rules. All you need is some start up money. you can even sell the candy/whatever for more than it'd be at the store. Laziness ftw?
indy500fan
@indy500fan, Aren't they supposed to clothe, feed, and shelter their children, by law? Did you learn how to budget money in your teen years... Yes I learned how to budget money, I got around $30 every birthday and I made it last. By the time I wanted to really start buying stuff I had a job (when I was 14, a summer job that lasted two weeks and I made about $200, same thing when I was 15, and when I was 16 I got an actual job full time through the summer). Wait until you have to start paying car bills, insurance bills, internet bills, phone bills ect... Then you will realize why your parents don't want to or just plain can't give you an allowance. I would definitely try to barter with your parents on the idea of allowance. It never hurts to try, and the worst that can happen is that it doesn't work out. I'd try for $10 a week, its a fair price and it can add up over time.
Chained_life
at 14 I was mowing lawns at 5$ per lawn. And my uncle was nice enough to supply me with the gas and lawnmower  I've never really done things for my parents, I do the dishes, clean the house... but never paid lol. I usually do it because I want stuff clean, and mom whines about no one else doing the dishes if I don't do them. we've always been middle/poor class so I've never gotten like 100$ a month, who the hell needs that at 14/15 anyway when your parents already supply you with clothes, food and shelter :?:
Dexek
Well, I was never given an allowance. I never asked for money, but if I did I would have likely been given it. I'm not too sure about the whole age to work legality, as I live out in the country. When I was 14 I cut wood in the Spring, let it season all Summer, then sold it in the Fall for $120 a cord. During the Winter I net fished on the lake for a good sum of money each Winter. I doubt any of these things are available for yourself, but you asked. I suppose you could do something to help the elderly or those without time. If they don't pay they will at least appreciate it. When I was 10 I used to cut grass for a bachelor that lived about 3 miles from me. You could try cutting grass or shoveling snow for people in your community. Check in if anybody needs help here or there. You could ask for a wage, but from what I see, people often pay because they somewhat understand what you're striving for. Best of luck with the money. : PoetryIndexed Picture 1Indexed Picture 2 Killed my maxed Zerker pure April 2010 Rebooting Runescape
Furah
In our household we get a $1/week per year of age (so I get $16/week while my 15yo sister gets $15/week.) Mum also budgets in a clothing allowance ($40/month) which I like never spend, although I do need to replace my jeans, and am growing out of some of my shorts and like 1 or 2 shirts.... ---------------- Listening to: Metallica - ...And Justice for All Steam | PM me for BBM PIN Nine naked men is a technological achievement. mcneilp
Had a paper round when i was 13, made about £10 a week doing that on school mornings. Grandparents gave us money as well (still do ) but i help them with their car (checking oil and the tyres and such). Other than that, i work every day so allowance/pocket money doesn't really apply to me any more. Racheya
An unorthodox solution I've come up with to get money in the past few months is this: You see I have a friend who's terrified of reading out stuff in front of the class in college and that, he really gets all nervous about it. And since I'm with him most of the lessons, every so often the teacher'll tell us to do a powerpoint and show it to the class. So he pays me £5, and I do all the talking for him 8-) I edit for the [Tip.It Times]. I rarely write in [My Blog]. I am an [Ex-Moderator].
Star.
When I was 14 I didn't need stuff like ipods, mobile phones and laptops. I could get by with little technology but it sucks that now teachers have to tell you to research stuff on the internet for homework. My parents pay for my clothes, school equipment and other minor stuff that may be vital. All the fun stuff I have to buy by myself, I bought my own ps2, TV, SLR camera, ipod and GHDs. I don't think they want to contribute to things that would distract me from my education. Offer to do little odd jobs for money. I shovelled out people's driveways for a small sum and washed people's cars for an even smaller one. It helps if you ask family friends and not strangers. ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢
Serpent Eye
Also it's not hard to get a job at 14, just go to Mcdonalds they hire anyone, if you're over 13. Wow... McDonalds really fails for this, and your state lacks appropriate child labor laws. That's crazy.
WoodenFruit
Before I was 12 I used to get money whenever I want to go out socialising (to the cinema) but then my mum decided it was too expensive, so my mum and my best friend's mother got us cinema cards each (meaning we can go to the cinema whenever for free  ) and I now get £5 every Saturday and if im going to town, a few pounds for dinner aswell. I used to get £2 dinner money for school, when I was in year 10 (14/15 years old) it was raised to £2.50, almost every day I save my dinner money. I sometimes randomly get money from my nan and my grandma. My mum takes me clothes shopping every 3 or 4 months, if there's something I really like inbetween the shopping trips then she'll usually give me the money, though a lot of the time I pay for it myself. ______________

mustangs407
My parents always bought me necessities (clothes, food, school stuff, etc.) but never gave me money to spend on my own or an allowance. They also buy me things that some people normally buy with allowance money (new phones when mine get old, new camera when mine got old, new computer, iPod, etc.), but there had to be a good reason. I can't just say "Hey that camera lens is hawt, buy it for me!" and they never gave me plain cash. Like indy500fan, I also did a few chores (mostly dishes) but I never got paid for it. But my parents are already very generous with what they buy me, so I'm certainly not complaining. At 14 the most you can do is really just babysit and walk dogs or something. when i was 12 i worked selling ice cream at a flea market in one of those carts heck i got like 30 bucks a week doing that but then i got bored of it so i quit
