No, I'm only referring to underage porn. Not just child, but also 18-.

Guilty until proven innocent  .....some country America is starting to become.

In my opinion, he deserved it. It was obviously something F*&^%$@ nasty, otherwise they wouldn't give him such a sentence, and he knew it too, so he plead guilty. You guys are assuming it was over something stupid, I mean they found stuff on his computer as well. He's 40 years old, and he has over 1,200 manga volumes? He sounds like a F*&^%@# pedofile. Period.

Jail people just because they're "nasty". I hope to God you never lead a country...much less a town.

What the hell are you talking about? The guy pleaded guilty. As in, before the trial when the judge says "How does the defendant plead?" he said "Guilty". It was his choice...now why, I don't know.

As to why Handley pled guilty instead of fighting the charges? Supposedly it was partly because he couldnt afford his defense, but the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund was already serving as special consultant for the case and probably would have stepped up some fundraising efforts. Apparently Handleys lawyer also thought he wouldnt be able to convince a jury once they saw the images in question.

This is for everyone wondering why he pleaded guilty.

It clearly has something to do with the DVDs and the computer images.

Figure that out yourself einstein? I think everyone has figured that out seeing as actually saying you're guilty over manga is ridiculous. We just don't know why he would. You never plead guilty. Even if the president of the united states saw you shoot five people, you don't plead guilty.

Or because an understanding of the average american makes one realize you dont have a shot in hell if you have hentai. Five bucks says there would be 12 nuts on the jury who would try to get the guy executed for defying the natural order or something.

There's a difference between being a weirdo and being a criminal. Someone who makes sculptures out of toenails would undoubtedly be classified as a freak and probably shunned from society, but he didn't do anything wrong to another human being besides gross them out so why is punishment deserved? He might deserve dirty looks, but not 15 years of prison.

You guys are assuming it was over something stupid, I mean they found stuff on his computer as well. He's 40 years old, and he has over 1,200 manga volumes?

Actually, thinking that the other stuff they found on his computer was real cp is an assumption. We're making no assumptions - we're basing our opinions off of what the article says and what we know. For all you know, the stuff on his computer could have just been all anime porn too. Innocent until proven guilty.

Having manga(a japanese comic) doesn't make you a pedophile. It never said they found anything on his computer, just that they searched it.

I read manga too. It's a manga about CP, that's what makes it nasty. I never said anything about reading japanese comics making you pedo at all. I was pointing out that he has an unhealthy obsession with manga and he's a pedo.

He plead guilty himself. Which made me think he knew he was doing something wrong, I didn't know he couldn't afford his defense.

...But if it was over something stupid, he could've gotten a lawyer appointed by the court for free. He technically didn't have to pay anything.

Having alot of manga is not "unhealthy," some people like building model planes/boats/trains/cars, some like to race remote controlled cars, he likes to read manga.

In the original DragonBall series you see a child Goku naked, does that make everyone who read that book a pedo? Same with the people who watched the anime episode for it.

Either way it would have better to fight the charges. Some advice from his lawyer, just plead guilty and accept the 15 years of jail time (Yes, it might get lowered for good behavior). But still, even if the jury would have been gross out by the images, there could have been a chance that the jury felt that he needed help and would have gone to a mental institute instead.

The question here is why the [bleep] are you reading it?

For a fact, he's 40. That manga collection would have built up over years. Besides, without a list, we cannot assume any of it was about CP.

I don't know if you realise it or not, but mental institues give "labels" to people, which never come off. Once granted the ability to leave the institute you are regarded as; "in remission" rather than cured. So going to a mental institute in some ways IS worse than a prison sentence.

Actually, pleading guilty gets you a lesser sentence, than if a jury finds you guilty, especially if there is evidence against you, where you will be indited for perjury too.

Found this on wikipedia:

However, legal definitions of child pornography generally refer to a wider range of material, including any pornography involving a minor, or in some cases non-abusive acts involving participants over the age of consent, or fictional images, according to jurisdiction.[9] Most possessors of child pornography who are arrested are found to possess images of prepubescent children; possessors of pornographic images of post-puberty minors are less likely to be prosecuted, even though those images also fall within the statutes.[9]

[...] The PROTECT Act of 2003, a bill addressing various aspects of child abuse, prohibits some illustrations and computer-generated images depicting children in a pornographic manner.[95][96][97] Provisions against virtual child pornography in the Child Pornography Prevention Act of 1996 were ruled unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2002 on the grounds that the restrictions on speech were not jusified by a compelling government interest (such as protecting real children). The provisions of the PROTECT Act instead prohibit such material if it qualifies as obscene as defined by the Miller Test; the Supreme Court has ruled that such material is not protected by the First Amendment.

Imo, the guy didn't deserve 15 years of jailtime, he deserves a few years under what you normally get for possession of real child pornography. He should of fought against the law tbh, it's up to the jury about how 'grossly obscene' the pictures may portray the fictional children. I can see why he would plead guilty, but he could of stood a (very small) chance against the law.

Don't know enough about this topic so I'm going to leave this here.

You dont get indited for perjury if you defend yourself and are found guilty. Im not familiar with the exact laws, but perjury takes more then saying Im not guilty at a trial.

Ok, firstly, just because someone owns manga doesn't mean he's a pedophile automatically. He's probably immature for his age, it happens alot in today's society.

Secondly, no one knows why he plead guilty, but in alot of cases, it's because they really don't think they can fight the system. People get scared when in a courtroom. It's not a happy place, that much I can tell you.

Thirdly, manga is a form of art. At least, I consider it art. I also consider all animation art. This new law is a bunch of BS. It's like banning books because of certain content. It's stupid.

Pornography should be illegal,.

Are you refering to all types of porn?

Knowing him, he probably is serious about all types. Then again, he's a morality [bleep] regardless.

No, I'm only referring to underage porn. Not just child, but also 18-.

You were a bit broad about it, so I assumed you meant all porn. My mistake.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

OPEN WIDE HERE COMES THE HELICOPTER.

This man should be in prison for a long, long time. Pornography should be illegal, but images depicting child pornography? Please... that's disgusting. This man is a menace to society and deserves all the prison time he gets.

[hide=Best not to read if your mentally young.]Think of it like this, most high-schools (and dont deny it) have kids that'll draw "Body Parts of the Lower Regeion" on walls etc. Should they be charged for planting reveailing images around school? no, because its a drawing (and grafitti but thats not the case here). Manga or to put it in term "Hentai" has been a form of pornography for years now, if it was illegal, the entire market of it would have been ceased over a century ago (or 10 years, cant remember the year-name for 10).

Also, for the post above..err...2nd last quote, anything under 18 IS Child porn. Which disturbing enough, in Australia there was a case where 4 year 8 students filmed themselfs having sex on a school trip. thats just a little clarify not ALL child porn is made by perverts if anyone had that thought.[/hide]

Wow that is seriously pretty [bleep] up, I mean really the content being delivered by the Post Office is of no business of the Mailman's to make judgment on somebody else, your job is to deliver the mail and that's it.

I want you to think about how stupid that is.

What if I'm a mailman and I notice that there are materials in someone's mail that could theoretically be used to make a bomb? Can I search that? According to you, no, I can't.

Not only do i disagree with your view for the reason that he did not go against any peoples human rights (CP), I also disagree with you in that he should not beable to open anything at all!!!

"I can feelsome notes in here, maybe they are from a drug deal....Ill take it" - if i saw someone go through my post, id go to jail. Theft and invasion of privacy and ABH are all punishable by law.
