No Hugging, No touching? WTF?!

Are you guys like germ freaks?

Every time I see a girl I know at college I'll give them a one-arm type hug, its just the normal thing to do

I mean, you aren't going give to any normal a girl a handshake or a high five... plus when theyre coming over to pregame and stuff they can smell your subtle cologne that way

I'll "hug" a dude on rare occasions but it usually means a hand grab first then like a hug (hands separating chests) with a pat on the back... extended for a couple seconds instead of just one pat and release.. haha

One-arm hugs just work, only my "good" hugs are reserved for the ladies that I known for a long time ;)

Or when I'm drunk, that requirement goes out the window.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

My middle school had a problem with sexual harassment due to a few stupid students doing stupid things (nothing really bad, but definitely harassing). Rules were then implemented by the police officer who was also the DARE officer and just a guy that always helped the school. They were no hugging, no touching, and no high fives. He was trying to make the point that harassment is serious stuff. Of course he went too far. I mean, his reason for no high fives was "you could miss and hit feminine body parts".

It was ridiculous.

No? What gave you that impression?

If people here don't like hugs I think it's due to other reasons, not sharing germs. Maybe they don't like being touched. :P Everyone seems to be pissed about people clogging up hallways with hugging.

I think all women at my university need to read this article on hugs being cool.

Unfortunately, I think you were a born a bit early for that.

I think its only recently it came into style, and, sorry for assuming, but you are 20+ right? From looking at the RL picture of you, you have passed the teen years, and therefore, the ones you will likely meet have different rituals than the current teenagers.

So hugging is really a big thing? Maybe it is in my school too and I've just missed it. I'll look on Monday.

Haha of course all rules go out the window when youre drunk.. hugging your dude friends with less homo attached.. hugging girls you are meeting for the first time. Also, hugs become double armed, stronger, and with the girls i like lets say my hands go south a bit haha

edit: i HATE it when the lightweight drunks become "clingy" and hug you, though, its like an annoying thing on your shoulder and you want to tell them to stfu and that they shouldnt be buzzed let alone piss drunk off 4 shots, but youre too nice

Don't like to touched as in getting germs? :?

And cmon guys it really didn't clog up HS hallways that much. Not as much as two people talking to each other. God forbid two good friends want to talk to each other in the time of freedom between classes. I hated when the kids with huge backpacks would plow through the hall on a mission (yes you)

It's not too uncommon.

Yeah, I rarely see it too as a greeting.

To be honest, with the people I knew, it was either randomly done, or a way to say goodbye (then again, we're talking about 14-16 year olds (I knew a couple through an old "friend", so its been 3 years, and pretty much they had no problem with most contact, make crude sexual references, even to the point of some of the guys feeling up the girl's [bleep] (never done it, didn't know her well enough, and with me being 17, and her underage, its a [wagon]-load of trouble for me, not that I'd actually do it anyway)).

Hugs, well here they just happened. Like I said, due to what I would assume is my appearance, I kind of got out of all the contact, except for one guy, and another time in like 3rd or 4th Year (I was on an in-school suspension, so I got to know one of the girls who was there, and the people she knew). To be honest, at that time, it kind of felt a little weird. I missed a lot in school, suspension for about 5 months, followed by an ISS, I missed some of the experience, and when it was someone I barely knew that well, it felt, unnatural.

Though now, I'd just go along with it, using the one-armed hug method. To me, two-armed hugs symbolise an attachment, and a feeling of security, while one-armed, well, its like you know it doesn't mean anything.

Don't like being touched as in don't like being touched. Lots of people don't like when people they don't know all that well being all personal and close and nasty and aids.

Picture it as 2 cars stopped on a 4-way intersection. While the results are far less danagerous it's just as annoying.

the one where you hold someone's hand as if to shake hands, then bull each other in, hug, pat on back, and release is considered a hug. Suposedly it is done mostly by african americans...

Except the 2 cars stopped would be half of the road and lets say your hallways are 10 feet wide, I doubt there are any people 5 feet wide to make that a good comparison

It should be up to the person being touched. If you don't want to be touched and you report it on your own terms then that's understandable. But when a legitimate couple both give their consent to hug each other, that is no business of the control-freaks we call the "authorities". Do they not realize the more laws we have the more problems we are creating?

I don't know where you guys are from, but where I live hugs are a normal greeting between friends :|. There are mostly girls who do it, but it's not rare to see guys hugging too (though they use the "hold hand, hug, pat on back, release" type of hug, supposedly it's more masculine). Even if it's pretty common between teenagers (again, mostly girls) I see them at my university and it's not seen as wierd or strange...

I never even touch my friends, but sometimes we share drinks and food and stuff like that (waterfalling though). This hugging thing sounds very awkward (I'm 16, just finished my sophomore year). There are people at my school who kiss though in front of others, although not like a french kiss or anything. Maybe only the popular kids hug each other (and not the guys, unless it's like a pat on the back or a masculine hug  ).

Don't want to start the "Let's hate America" bandwagon crap, but all I can say is.......wtf?

There's been some pretty screwed up policies implemented in American schools recently, no Dodgeball in some, allowing idiots and cheaters the chance to resit exams and hand in late assignments etc. But this one........well this one just takes the prize.

How on earth does hugging impact negatively on people? Do these idiots in charge of the school realize they're just slowly killing student happiness? And some have cited the problem being peer pressure arising from it, well [cabbage] to that because if that was the case they have implemented Uniform policies within the last......20 years of so?

I hug all of my friends, it's so normal here. Girls, I hug them whenever I see them. Guys, masculine hug, most of the time I'll greet my friends in school with a high five or something, my friends in different schools I'll usually greet with a hug because I usually only see them twice a week. I really don't see how they view this as something negative.
