I ask because I will be gone the 24th, until the 27th actually, and wouldn't want to miss my chance just because I was away... But I presume it'll take a few days to sort through all the applications. Sent in my app though, I think I have a good chance of getting picked. :pray: To add to what DarkDude said, it depends on how many people apply and how long it takes to vet potential applicants. While it has been quite awhile since the last moderator application drive, I vaguely remember that applications were submitted in August/September and (for those accepted) it was sometime in late November/December before they were notified, with security checks, training etc taking another month or two. Some people dislike me after I have dealt with them (which is perfectly understandable), but at the end of the day you realise that they are in the wrong regardless. And you have a whole team backing you up. Well we aren't particularly fond of the idea that moderators (with access to private information and tools) could have their accounts stolen by not having any security on their computer. :P Hence staff members being required to have virus scanners, firewalls and needing to pass the Hijack this! scan. I don't think it's about wanting power at all, I joined the Tip.It staff as a moderator through the last applications because I wanted to help out Tip.It, I'd been a user here for over 3 years at the time and felt I could do a good job as a moderator. While I obviously don't know the reasons behind the crew applications the Editorial Panel one was needed due to having a really thin team there anyway and not really having any editors to speak of. For the moderator one we could do with additional help as the moderator team has been thinning out a bit recently with only a few new mods. This should help us have more coverage of the board and hopefully reduce the time bad posts are up for while hopefully spreading the work load around more. I know the admins were against Applications in the past but with the success of the first Moderator Trainee applications it's no wonder that there are more of them. If a moderator's account were to get taken over, many very bad things could happen very quickly - whole forums worth of posts could be deleted, the forums themselves could be moved/renamed, private staff records could be made public, random bannings could occur etc. Overall, computer security wise moderation duty counts as a "high risk" job and as such a secure computer is required. Mmh I'd fill in an application, but there are too many con's for me. Such as some people hating you, no longer being able to post smartass comments :x Don't worry about it too much - in my entire ~2 years as a moderator, I have gotten all of two complaint PM's.
