July 19, 200916 yr Wow, i learned something today. Judging by some of the PMs I'm still recieiving from not-so-happy people, I learned that on the Internet you can poke fun at almost anything. Sure its commonplace to make fun of someone's sports teams, country, hieght, sex, climate preference, favorite fast food chain, brand loyalty, gaming style, sexual orientation, or even religion... but make fun of their favorite music artist and you better be ready to flee the country. : People are still PM'ing you? Either way, you do rarely post, so we weren't quite sure if you were serious or sarcastic. Sarcasm is extremely subtle through plain text :P I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal. OPEN WIDE HERE COMES THE HELICOPTER.
July 19, 200916 yr Author ultimania92: At this point the PMs arn't about the sarcasm or not, but people are quite passionate about their music preferneces and are angrily declaring, to paraphase one PM: "Back the **** off, Kanye West has more talent than you ever will, your post saying otherwise just proves how worthless you are to society" So... yea. I grossly misjudged my audiance, and like I said, it seems on the internet you can poke fun at anything except someone's music preference : / Yes, but i fail to see what your problem is. If your point is that singers are: too famous, make too much money, etc., etc., etc. for their "talent level" then i disagree with you totally. If it sounds good then i could care less if the singer had a good voice or not. Really? You're okay with the fact that Hannah Montana has made about 20 million dollars so far for the simple fact that she had connections to music producers? Meanwhile the people who invented the Internet, cured polio, founded the Red Cross, made the first the cell phone, or discovered antibiotics all made less than 40k a year? And presently people who are going after and arresting child molesters, people getting shot at fighting terrorists or people risking their lives fighting fires make about 30k a year. You really "disagree with me totally" when I say Hannah Montana makes too much money for what she does when you compare it to other people in society? Wow, I really misjudged my audiance, Tip.it has changed so much over the years :|
July 19, 200916 yr "Back the **** off, Kanye West has more talent than you ever will, your post saying otherwise just proves how worthless you are to society" Somebody actually said that? They're lucky they said that over PM and not here where everyone can see it. Kanye West sucks. *Prepares myself*
July 19, 200916 yr Yes, but i fail to see what your problem is. If your point is that singers are: too famous, make too much money, etc., etc., etc. for their "talent level" then i disagree with you totally. If it sounds good then i could care less if the singer had a good voice or not. It seems you didn't read my post. Besides, its not just about giving talentless folks wealth, its keeping the wealth for themselves. I said it before, the big companies are not letting the little, uprising artists to compete since they don't have the program. And talent isn't about how good a software can change your voice...unless you're a software engineer or something. and this brings another good point: Meanwhile the people who invented the Internet, cured polio, founded the Red Cross, made the first the cell phone, or discovered antibiotics all made less than 40k a year? And presently people who are going after and arresting child molesters, people getting shot at fighting terrorists or people risking their lives fighting fires make about 30k a year. July 19, 200916 yr The video was funny, but I don't listen to pop, so how simple it is to create it doesn't bother me. People make money however they can. In this case the people have connections, create their product and sell it. It might not be in the most "fair" way, but since when is business fair? July 19, 200916 yr Its a sign of the times Music has always been a series of noises which are pleasurable to humans because we seek patterns. This combined with lyrics which we can relate to and apply to our life make a successful song. If this can be achieved electronically then it was bound to happen. You just need a different skill set to achieve in the music industry now. I feel there is no point being pessimistic about the current scenario, creative, human-engineered music will always have a following. It is important however, to remember that the 'image' of these pop stars is entirely manufactured too. people shouldnt say they like Pinks anti-bush activism because that song was written by someone else who was told by someone else that Pink needed to tap the, already huge, anti-bush portion of society. For sales, nothing else.

No i'm not, I don't think any singer should make that much money, including singers that sing well without auto tune. But that's irrelevant, i really could care less who gets that fame and money as long as i(as the consumer) am getting the same product.
July 20, 200916 yr Those videos were great. I can't stand any of the pop songs I hear on the radio, they're obnoxious. And I can't believe those songs are the ones that are making the most money. The music industry is really going downhill these days.

Just look at Rihanna and the revlon ad for umbrella. There are far too many sell outs to list. Or, you can watch the gruen transfer. Trapical, can you please post your original post, in the first post ? Maybe using hide tags, so as to not "offend" ? I only came here after it was edited out. Or, if more convenient, you could PM me. Thanks.
July 20, 200916 yr Author meh. I didn't bother to save a copy, I just hit edit and, well, edited. Nothing too exciting in there really, pretty much the same way it is now but with more specific naming out of artists and I said the line: "rappers these days just need a beat, a thesaurus, and lyrics about sex and blow. and if your a black musician you also need to swear a lot and talk about [garden tool]'s and drugs"
July 20, 200916 yr With the Auto-tuner all you need is a voice... And a good producer, a good song writer, a good knowledge of how to use Auto-Tunes. It's easy to simply say all you need is a voice, but do you people actually know how to use it correctly? Then you need good lyrics and a good beat for people can actually like the song. T-Pain, the one who has made auto-tune popular has gone and said several times, that some people who try to use auto-tune just fails at it. I'll believe him as he has had success with it. As shown in these videos: [hide=T Pain disses all people "jacking" his autotune style][yt]gvN02w1DHwM[/yt][/hide] [hide=T Pain talks about autotune @ 1][yt]45bKBvPCX18[/yt][/hide] Meanwhile the people who invented the Internet, cured polio, founded the Red Cross, made the first the cell phone, or discovered antibiotics all made less than 40k a year? You really "disagree with me totally" when I say Hannah Montana makes too much money for what she does when you compare it to other people in society? It's not like you're the one spending the money, it's the little girls who like Hanna Montana who are forcing their parents to buy it. So I really don't get this point at all. I don't get why people should pay more for innovators than entertainers. If you invent something good, people will buy it. What is this also? Wow, I really misjudged my audience, Tip.it has changed so much over the years :| Clarify. I do think that some of these mainstream rappers are smarter than some people think. They know what people will buy. And yet they are bashed for it. :? Some people could actually learn tips from them. I am Teh_King[My dA][My Last.FM][My Twitter]

Kanye West sucks. *Prepares myself* That's an understatement. I still resent how he obviously ripped off daft Punk with his song Stronger. >_> Plus rap is really awful, similar beats to artists speaking stuff in a rhythmic pattern. July 21, 200916 yr I resent any artist that uses auto-tunes... To be honest I don't even like the sound of most auto-tuned voices. Then again, I hate pop music. And rap music. Even when the artist has real talent, I just don't like it. PS: Kayne West Really does suck.
July 21, 200916 yr Since you've changed your original post I'm not sure whether or not you're having a go at auto-tune or not, but I just wanted to point out that it can be used very effectively by extremely talented singers, eg. Woods by Bon Iver (below) and there's no denying that 808s and Heartbreak is a very good album. [hide=Woods - Bon Iver][yt]tZYVJlhnqxQ[/yt][/hide] I think it's very easy to rush to judge modern pop stars as manufactured and talentless but I don't think it's that simple. Yes, there's a big element of being in the right place at the right time when it comes to getting spotted by producers etc. but they must have some kind of star quality or they just wouldn't sell. Even if it's only being able to sing and dance well, hell that's all Michael Jackson did in his later years. He hadn't written good music for a long time. And I didn't think I'd be rushing to defend Miley Cyrus anytime soon but credit to her, she's actually co-written pretty much all the songs on her latest album. Whatever you think of their quality you can't deny that she does have some talent as an entertainer. I'm not saying it's fair, or just, or right, it's just the way things are in a globalised consumerist society. They can make so much money because they can market their product to the entire world. How on earth do we reward Tim Berners Lee accordingly? Part of the brilliance of his invention is that it's open access and not patented. If you don't like this stuff then you don't have to buy it, I certainly don't, but you can't judge others if they genuinely like it and buy it. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

July 21, 200916 yr I noticed this topic a couple of days when i watched a re-run of Top Gear (S12), and there was some dude who had won pop idol before. Clarkson asked him like "so you know Smoke On The Water?" .. "uhm no". I mean, for god sake... It's music legacy! How can you not know that song... So. We also have this pop idol crap in my country. The good thing is tho, that these "idols" seem to die out after a year or two. I admit, it's not my type of music, but i hear very easily if someone has a good voice or not. And most of them (even the finalists, atleast in my country) sound like crap. I have seen one program each season, just because it's fun to be a masochist and to sit in the sofa and judge peoples voices. Apart from the fact that i wouldn't listen to such music even if the person has a good voice, i find it to be everything music shouldn't be about. There's no soul, no passion, no love. Just manufactured for the masses + an entertainment program for the tv stations to bring in money. Now back to listen to Rush.
