Manufactured pop stars

Those vids are hilarious, but you have a point. None of these people deserve that fame and fortune because none of them did anything to deserve it, while the millions of people that actually work hard get payed in [cabbage].

Heh, yea I read it over again and I apologize. I figured people would know me well enough to know that if I began a paragraph with "black people only sing about sex" it's obvious thats its sarcasm, but I guess I don't post that often these days.

And the entire time I was writing the post I had those videos playing in the backround so everything seemed hilarious at the time

I hope I didn't horribly offend anyone back there :?

I don't have a problem with auto-tune, provided the person using it wrote the song. 808's and Heartbreaks is the obvious example. It's an album I enjoy, and probably wouldn't be if not for the auto-tune. I couldn't care less if Kanye West can sing or not. What matters is that he came up with the melodies and used the auto-tune to make sure the song was as good as it could be.

Now, it's something completely different when the auto-tune is used on a 'recording artist' whose only job is to sing the song well. Lip-syncing is something I can't tolerate at all.

La lune ne garde aucune rancune.

I can't see a douchebag like Kanye making emotional music. I don't think he has a heart to break.

Well done Trapical, a racist slur in OT. About blacks! Shocking!

All these voice enhancing software are utter [cabbage]. It's all just a technique used by the big companies to keep money flowing within them...kinda how you would marry your sister to preserve a family line.

Hey, I like Lady Gaga.

She's been writing music for famous artists for years, and she can play more than one instrument.

I enjoy her music very much, Poker Face is perhaps the best dance song I have heard all year. She is alse very nice to her fans. She will actually reply to any letter you send her and people that have gone backstage with her report that is extremly friendly and sincere.

I just used her as an example of someone that uses Autotune in some songs. She was also mentioned in the video I posted, which was awesome, and I wanted to link my post to the video a bit more.

People are just taking offense because they think you're ignorant for stereotyping rappers.

Yea I noticed a trend, everyone that thought I was serious and racist posted in the first 5 minutes, meaning they didn't watch the videos. I figure anyone that took the time to watch the videos would be laughing to hard to take me seriously.

Katie Couric (the CBS anchor woman) is awkwardly awesome with AutoTune.

those youtube vids are unbearable. give me tpain any day over that.

but manufacturing pop stars are easy, yes. just gotta have the power to do so. biggest examples of this are miley cyrus and jonas brothers. both are untalented hacks, but because of disney's power in the music/tv/movie industry, they're raking in a lot of money.

another one is this

obviously not everything works out but the point is that even people who can't sing can be "stars" overnight if they have enough support behind them.

Justin Bieber has a voice though, much better then Jonas Brothers or Miley....IMO at least. Watch some of his personal stuff on his youtube. Dude can play guitar, write his own stuff, and sing....triple threat. He doesn't have to sing necessarily to make a name in the business. He had Usher and Justin Timberlake bidding to sign him....sounds better then Disney to me.

I agree about autotone. Its garbage for the most part and hate hearing it. However i do think it works for T-pain, some of his best stuff IMO was just Ft. on other's albums. I think thats what he's made to do, auto tone works for him with that. I'm on a boat!

If you compare Wayne's pre-Carter III stuff to his Carter III stuff its completely different. His pre-Carter III stuff blows his new stuff out of the water. I wish someone would tell me the song "Prom Queen" is better then "I'm Me". He fails at autotone.

Haha, can't say I picked up the subtle humour. Thanks for correcting yourself.

Cool.

Part of the problem here is how majority of the teenagers think how love and all the other emotional crap makes the world go round. I must say, I'm pretty annoyed at how tons of people on my MSN put their personal messages as something about love/ how they werent meant to be etc and how half their display pictures are them staring into the distance. What ever happened to good old playing video games?

The "singers" then take advantage of this and create songs about love and relationships which in turn, the teenager will buy as they feel that the song is related to their life. They will then get the idea that love is the only thing that matters and the whole damn cycle repeats itself.

Break the Walls down!

I agree with this post 100%. Many artists are just people with connections to labels. I tried to articulate this in some posts a few days back, but you actually know how to write, so it worked out better for you. Good for you.

I once found an online video of Wolfman Jack that was made just before he died, and he talked about these things. These manufactured artists are able to dominate the industry, and totally control the radio airwaves. It's impossible for the real young musicians, and local groups to compete. They cannot get airplay, they can't move up. Computers generate which of the latest major label's artists will appeal to the demographics that the station appeals to, and that's that.

I guess I have to note that the "indie" movement has been happy to take advantage of this situation, and cash in on negative sentiment towards the biggest and easiest targets (Cyrus, Lady Gaga, nickelface or whatever the hell they are called) of this sort of criticism. I doubt that they are much different though. This is the most efficient way to produce a hit record, so it is the way that everyone will use. It's a shame, but I guess that's progress.

I agree that it is slightly ridiculous that these mostly talentless people have any degree of fame or success. I tend to listen to bands who have learnt to play an instrument and who write and sing their own songs. However, parties wouldn't be the same without a bit of this sort of music. There's a time and a place for it.

If you don't like it, don't listen to it. Don't tell me that you're being forced you to listen it. There's always going to be people who like it, ranting does nothing.

Umm.... so the jonas brothers and miley cyrus also does that "triple threat"? it's part of the marketing and you're actually falling for it

Errr no. They don't have the triple threat because they can't sing. I'm not falling for anything. I don't buy jack [cabbage] from any of them.

Why shouldn't music be that polished, "manufactured", what's bad with branded musicians. With that logic you should film movies with one shoot without editing at all. And authors should only write their book once, rewriting it or checking for errors would make the art less worthy. Why is mainstream and anything commercial worth less than "real", underground musicians. Just because there are more people and "professionals" and labels behind the product doesn't mean anything if the music is good. Cliches are one thing, they won't sell for long.

With films you need talented actors & directors ect. You can't give them a quick run through the 'actor-o-matic' to make them seem better. (Though make up artists do fulfil that role).

Writers need some sort of talent in writing (unless you're Stephenie Meyer) if you're going to get anywhere.

With the Auto-tuner all you need is a voice...

Ahh, you see, no matter how much you suck at acting, you can't fix it with a program. No matter how much you such at writing, all the dictionaries and thesauruses you can't fix that.

Besides, its not just about giving talentless folks wealth, its keeping the wealth for themselves. I said it before, the big companies are not letting the little, uprising artists to compete since they don't have the program. And talent isn't about how good a software can change your voice...unless you're a software engineer or something.

Yes, but i fail to see what your problem is. If your point is that singers are: too famous, make too much money, etc., etc., etc. for their "talent level" then i disagree with you totally. If it sounds good then i could care less if the singer had a good voice or not.

Wow, i learned something today. Judging by some of the PMs I'm still recieiving from not-so-happy people, I learned that on the Internet you can poke fun at almost anything. Sure its commonplace to make fun of someone's sports teams, country, hieght, sex, climate preference, favorite fast food chain, brand loyalty, gaming style, sexual orientation, or even religion... but make fun of their favorite music artist and you better be ready to flee the country. -.-
