What movie(s) did you last see?

Featured Replies

Godfather: Part 2 - not quite as good as the first one, but i still like it a lot. quality writing, directing, and acting.

Godfather: Part 3 - this one was... different... than the other godfathers. it wasnt bad, it just didnt feel like a godfather movie. it was ok, but definently outshined by the first two.

Fistful of dollars - good

For a Few Dollars More - good

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly - good +1

not a big fan of westerns, but these were good. enertaining, even if you dont like westerns. the story lines were good, kept you interested.

I Heart Huckabees - this is one funny movie. this was my second time through, and i remembered it being really funny the first time, but this time it was even better. this is definently my favorite comedy, because it makes you think a bit. while i dont agree with the political views in it, that doesnt bother me. this is definently a must see for everyone, its just awesome.

High Noon - I wanted to get into the american western a bit more, so I figured it would be a good choice to start with HIGH NOON. It's a pretty nice and fast paced movie, not too long (only 82 minutes; a lot shorter than Leone's masterpieces). A good cast lead by the famous actor Gary Cooper, who embodies the perfect American hero, does a great job, and he is guided by one of the most beautiful woman Hollywood has ever known: Grace Kelly. Take that and wrap it up with some symbolism, a good score and a tight story and you got a great western. I'm not surprised this movie is seen as one of the best westerns ever. 8.5/10

Yes, La Vita E Bella. Assuming you mean Bonjourno Principessa. And they don't show old Itallian movies since they would simpley be too boring to keep a big class occupied. :P

Match Point - Finally a good Woody Allen movie, that can compete with his older movies. It was really great. A well done love story with great characters (that developed good aswell) and an excellent cast. The images were okay, nothing too fancy though. And the soundtrakc was very good. The small inside joke Scarlett made when she had to improvise a name for Chris was great too. :P 8/10

The Warriors - Somebody though it would be cool to make a game out of this movie, and since the game got out this '79 cult hit is as hip as can be. So I had to watch it. And indeed, it's hip. Great costume design, great soundtrack, good concept, less good acting, and violence. 8) A real men's movie. 7.5/10

Garden State - Saw this one after The Warriors, it was fairly good. Braff could've been a little more original in his directing, and a little bit less desperatly alternative, so the jokes and characters would've been a bit more subtile. It wasn't bad and I enjoyed myself, but it wasn't entirely great. 7.5/10

:( Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Slept up untill the first task.

Yesterday I watched Team America and Toys ^_^

Toys is a great movie, too many people pass it off as just being a kids movie but its not, its nothing like a kids movie at all. Its all about the farcity of war and the motives behind it. Very clever, watch it! :D

i also watched all three recently. First one kicked [wagon]. Second one was pretty good, not as good. Third one sucked. Ending was funny though. Al Pachino just falling over in a chair and dying.

I want to see The Warriors though badly.

I'm currently in the middle of watching the GoodFellas.

Great Escape - recieved the steve mcqueen 4 movie box set in the mail, this is the only one ive watched so far. its pretty good, its enertaining, and i really enjoyed the ending.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

never got into the harry potter books, they never really looked that good and there was always something else to read (back when i read books religiously). i saw the first movie a long time ago, probably when it came out on dvd. i didnt remember any of it except bits and pieces, dont even remember how i felt about it. but that was the only time i ever experienced harry potter. after re-watching the first one, i kind of liked it. for a kids movie it was pretty enertaining, enough to where i wanted to see the second one. it was ok, about the same as the first. by the third one i was into it a little more, and the movie got a new director. the kids are older, and i think act a bit better. i liked this one pretty well. the fourth one was great, and now voldemort is back. cant wait for the fifth one. in the mean time ill have to go to the library and check out some books.

I watched Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, then the Maltese Falcon.

Butch Cassidy was real good. Amazing dialogue and acting, excellent directing. Good times for action and a great buddy action movie. It was funny too :). Mad good quotes aswell. I enjoyed it thoroughly. :). (top 100 material :).

Maltese Falcon was decent, the plot moved fast though, as did the dialogue. Which is a double edged sword. It's good because if that same movie was made today (which it wouldn't, atleast not in a large commercial sence as there is no swearing, violence, nudity, or explosions) it would take 3+ hours to get all that dialouge and plot out, because they don't seem to be as sharp as the oldies. But it also got kinda confusing, and they talked a little too fast to understand sometimes, so I had to rewind to pick up plot points (which sucked). Excellent dialogue, good acting (Bogart was better in Casablanca I think...he seemed like he was acting here, his Casablanca performance was more believable). Good twisty plot and charecter development though, and some more good quotes :). (Top 100...probable)

Saw King Kong, great movie considering I knew the basic plot structure going into it(but who ever doesn't......)

made me realized I HATE bugs that are cockroach size or bigger

some of the cg was a bit iffy, but all in all it worked out very well

but there was this really annoying group of kids(12 and under) who didn't get the movie at all ><

such as when*spoilers*

Kong dies, they were like, that was kinda funny

King Kong

What a film. It really was brilliant, so much more than just the high budget action flick that many people expected. The CGI was fantastic, completely engaging and there were some spellbinding fight/action scenes, not just with Kong but with the other characters. The brachiosaurus chase scene was totally brilliant and the Kong fight scene with the 3 T-rexes has to be one of the most well co-ordinated CGI scenes ever.

The love story was tragic and wholly believable, and the scenes where Ann was entertaining Kong and the ice skating scene were truly touching. The acting and casting were brilliant, and the casting of Ann was inspired, she was 100% right for the part. I went to see this film with a couple of friends, and normally i don't mind a bit of banter in the middle, but with this i was telling them to shutup when they were talking and laughing through some of the more touching scenes.

Bravo Peter Jackson, 10/10

"Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

Team America World Police - funny movie, uses every cliche it can find and makes fun of it. the puppeteering is good in some parts, and then blantantly bad in others. they dont even bother hiding the strings. they want you to know that its a puppet movie. its just really, really funny.

BASEketball - after i finished TA i felt like more hilarious comedy, so i had to watch this movie. uses the general sports movie cliche, but thats expected. the sport they make up is pretty fun to play also.

Elf - saw a little of the middle of this movie, so i decided to watch it allthe way through. its family friendly, and everything works out in the end, but i didnt hold that against it. will farrell is hilarious, as normal, and zooey deschanel was hot. its a christmas movie too, so i guess it could be considered good for this time of year.

A Mighty Wind - its a mockumentary, basically a comedy in documentary form. its funny, but i liked it mostly because of its format. i liked the idea. halfway decent comedy.

King Kong - naomi watts is definently one of the hottest celebrities, if not the hottest one, so that makes this movie worthwhile right there. you can definently tell peter jackson directed it, the ending took forever. it was cool watching kong battle all the things in the forest, and it was cool seeing him destroy stuff in nyc. its just the king kong story, action filled and a little romance. all the neat special effects and naomi watts were the main points of this movie.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith - Surprisingly good. Finally a good action comedy with other actors than Will Smith or Jackie Chan, with a rather new concept as well. The scenes with the couple in relationtherapy were a very nice touch. It was action packed and had some nice 'gadgets'. Sometimes the action was a bit too much, for example in one of the later scenes at the warehouse where they only get hit on their vest, but that didn't really spoil the fun for me. Maybe they could've cut a bit more so it was 10 minutes shorter or something. But overall I thought it was pretty hot, just like the couple Pitt and Jolie. 7.5/10

The Chronicles of Narnia (1988) - What a sassy serie. Now I don't have problems with 'childish' movies/series. But this was just too much. Not to mention the bad acting, poor studio-scenery. So I stopped wasting my time after 20 minutes.

Sid and Nancy - Movie about Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious, seen 40 minutes so far and it's okay, will see the rest later.

Hoop Dreams - A documentary that was on my "to-see" list for a while. I finally had the chance to take it with me from work. We follor the lives of two children who have a dream to become an NBA player. We start following the two children and their families at the age of 14 when they are scouted by highschools for their basketball talent, till they finished highschool. In the meanwhile we get a really good insight in the lives of the children and families. We get to see the home situation; how they deal with poorness, divocerces, drugs and the birth of new children. And we also get a pretty nice insight of the school and basketball lives the children are having. It was very interesting and I don't think I was bored once in this three hour documentary. A recomendation for all basketball fans and non-basketball fans. 8/10.

Arthur Agee taking a shot in basketball documentary "Hoop Dreams".

Bad Santa - A sexing, drinking, smoking, cursing and stealing santa. Sounds charming, and the movie starts really good. After thirty minutes it becomes a lot of the same and from a promesing comedy it changes to a rather tasteless comedy. Billy Bob plays nice though. 6/10

Manhattan - Very, very nice. Gives a nice display of the city live in New York. Great characters, a great score and wonderfully shot. One of the better, if not the best Woody Allen movie. 8.5/10

Woody Allan's Manhattan

Jacob's Ladder (third time) - A very, very well done horror/thriller. It's not the physical forms of threat you are getting in this movie, it's all mindjob. Very claustrofobic (sp?) and surrealistic. A must see. 8/10

Idioterne - By famous Danish director Lars von Trier. This is a dogme '95 movie. I'll give you some insight on the rules of Dogme '95. It's a special movie 'guild' with special rules, it aimes for simplicity and realism and tries to bring back the purity in movies. You must use a handheld camera, no special lightning affects, music can only be played live at the set, so no music guided at the movie itself when it isn't played on location, the directors name cannot be mentioned in the credits, everything must be shot on location etc. it makes me think of a 'modern' version of the well known Itallian Neo Realism. Lars von Trier came up with this (together with a few other direcots) is '95 and changed arthouse cinema a lot in the middle 90's till now. It's the second Dogme movie, the first one was Festen by Thomas Vinterberg.

Anyway, I thought this was a very good movie, by far not as good as Festen, but that's another story. It gives a nice critical view on society, which is done in almost every Von Trier movie. We follow a group of people who try to find the "idiot" in theirselves. To find the idiot in theirselves they act like they are mentally handicapted and they 'fool' everybody around them, from Hell's angels to rich snobs in their neighborhood. The movie has several climax' two of them are the "groupesex" scene and the other one is the scene where they invite and meet actuall handicaped people, which is a great scene. Everything is done by the Dogme principles which I quite like, the subject is interesting aswell. Maybe this movie took a bit too long, but that's part of the dogme principles aswell. All in all it's a great movie and worth a try for everybody. 7.5/10 Rules are broken at opening and ending scene btw; Offscreen music.
