November 26, 200718 yr Why did Eragon HAVE A CRAPPY ENDING?! It wasn't just a crappy ending... it was a crappy beginning, middle and pretty much everything in between. Definately one of the worst movies of the year. Sienna Gullory was the only good thing about it, and she wasn't in it nearly enough ;)
November 26, 200718 yr Janghwa, Hongryeon - A Tale of Two Sisters is a South Korean horror movie, which I've heard is the best kind of horror movie. Anyways it was pretty good. To say it was confusing would be an understatement, although by the end I had some idea of what went on. Had to read an explanation on IMDb though to understand it fully. Saibogujiman kwenchana - I'm a Cyborg but that's OK is another South Korean movie, I felt like watching another one after the previous movie. Figured I would go with a Chan-wook Park film since I loved Oldboy. I didn't really care for this one all that much though. I thought the end was weak, the rest of the movie was OK. Koroshiya 1 - Ichi the Killer is supposed to be a graphic/gruesome movie. It was sometimes, a lot of it just looked stupid though. Really disappointed with it. The story was kind of interesting, but for some reason by the end I thought it turned stupid.
November 27, 200718 yr Author Fanfare This is the first movie that I've seen from my Bert Haanstra box. This is a normal feature length movie. And as I expected I really loved this movie, especially the beginning nearly brought me to tears. It's not really the plot that's so special, things like that were made before, and after Fanfare, but the way that it is shot, the people, how the actors play their role, the music used in the movie. It's all part of a country that doesn't exist anymore, where I loved to have been. That's the reason why I found it so special. I could recommend it for other Dutchies, and maybe the adventurous foreigner. But they'll probably find it 'dated' or something. The Lady Vanishes I got it in last thursday, wanted to watch it, but I couldn't. So I had to wait 'till sundat evening. And it was very good. Hitchcock at his best once again. And quiete unique to be honest. Never did he do such a blend of thriller, comedy and romance. And never has it been so succesfull. Lady Vanishes has often been copied, but never equaled. Must-see. There are some nice inside jokes about the start of Hitch' career for the fan as well. Over Glas Gesproken Maybe some of you have heard of Bert Haanstra before (although I doubt it) and if you have you must have heard about this Oscar winning short-documentary Glas, well that movie is extracted from this one. It is a promotional/educative video for one of the great glass production companies from Leerdam. This movie is of course more serious as [/i]Glas[/i] there are no jokes with the machines breaking down, and instead Jazz music there is a voice over for educational purposes. Although I'm not very interested in the subject the movie was visually very interesting, which resulted in me gazing at the screen wtihout blinking an eye for nearly 30 minutes. You can see the Oscar-winning short documentary Glass here. <-- click it! Ten minutes, but it's worth it. :) Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
November 28, 200718 yr Rent If you like musicals, you'll love this one. It's a rock musical, it's flashy, dramatic, neat costumes, clever coreography and nice music. It's a remake of the stage musical by the same name which in turn was inspired by Puccini's opera 'La Boheme'. "Metal isn't about violence or faggy whiny lyrics. It isn't even about who plays the heaviest and fastest. It is about invoking a sense of wonder and magnitude that no other genre can depict."
November 29, 200718 yr Gwoemul - The Host was alright for a monster movie. There were a few parts that I thought were kind of stupid though. I thought the ending was pretty good. The Exorcist - Finally got around to seeing it. It was OK, but there were a few parts that annoyed me. Basically the mom was the biggest annoyance. I wasn't really paying attention during the first 20 or so minutes of the film, so I may have missed out on why it happened. Don't think all that much was going on then though.
November 29, 200718 yr Space Jam Its like looking at all the tazos again, the 90s were awesome. November 29, 200718 yr I put this in the wrong topic sorry, lapse of concentration. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)
December 2, 200718 yr 30 Days of Night - This wasn't exactly what I expected. In this case though, it turned out even better. I mostly expected a scary horror movie, but it had the zombie apocalypse type movie feel to it. I don't care for scary movies, but I love zombie movies. So yeah, I liked it. I can't really think of any specific criticisms, but something seemed a bit off about it. Maybe it was the pacing. Still worth a watch though. Live Free or Die Hard - Once you get past the "computers don't work that way" feeling this movie becomes pretty awesome. The first in the series is still the best, this one might be tied for second best though. All the action you could ever want, a lot of it is over the top though. Sometimes that's good, sometimes bad. Oh and Mary Elizabeth Winstead is in it, who is extremely hot. Stardust - Holy [cabbage] this movie is frakkin' awesome! When I first saw the previews for it I was uninterested. Then when people started saying how awesome it was, I kept on wanting to see it more and more. That's all I heard from anyone who saw it was how great it was. I didn't think it would even be close to living up to expectations, but it exceeded them. I don't know why it was so great, it just was. Oh and Claire Danes is one of the hottest women alive. That definitely helped. EDIT: For some reason I put Sienna Miller instead of Claire Danes. Sienna is really hot also, just not as hot.
December 2, 200718 yr Hannibal Rising (2007) - It was a pretty good movie, wasn't as violent as I had thought it might have been. I'm glad to say this wasn't no 'Saw'; Hannibal Rising actually had a decent storyline behind it. I enjoyed watching it, i'm finally getting into the habit of spending more time watching movies; doing something useful, rather then spending it all of the time on the computer.
December 2, 200718 yr The Wind That Shakes the Barley Important, educating, quite boring actually . This movie had no real strength imo.
December 2, 200718 yr Author Idlewild I had expected a little bit more from this. Especially the looks were very good. The sets, lighting, clothing. Real eye-candy that supported eachother in an excellent way. It had that really cool thirties gangster atmosphere. Too bad that the movie follows the latetst trends on montage, giving it this videoclip feel. Which is extra frustrating because you know that you're missing out on the looks. Which is what this movie is about. I also expected some more swing to it. Instead of tese tame beats, Big Boi's murmering and for dancing only some women throwing their chocolate-brown legs high up in the sky. Too bad. Elephant I've seen this movie a couple of years ago. At that time I had less knowledge than that I've got now. At that time I never heard of Bela Tarr, now I have. And now I see that his influence on Elephant cannot be denied. The way that the events are shown is exactly the same as in Tarr's masterpiece SÃÆÃâÃâátÃÆÃâÃâántangÃÆÃâÃâó. Also the long trackingshots, the constant noises in the background are directly taken from Tarr's movie. But that's not a problem. It's very good actually. It all adds up giving you this nervous feeling. You know something is happening, but you don't know what it is. And then you suddendly hear that gun fireing. And from that moment on your hooked to the screen and you get in conflict with yourself. Because on one side you feel disgusted for what is happening on the screen. The violence is so plain and ugly (not at all beautifull like what you see in let's say a James Bond movie), and the children seem to be emotionally numb. On other hand you feel sorry for the kids, and you kind of understand them. After all they were only teenagers that seem to be forced into their situation. And in this way the movie leaves you behind with horrible, helpless feeling. Seen three movies more, but I've got to go working. I'll add them in later. The third movie. It was a bit longer than usual, I think I can call the longest movie I've seen so far. It's called SÃÆÃâÃâátÃÆÃâÃâántangÃÆÃâÃâó. It's seven hours long. And during those seven hours of watching, I didn't watch the clock even once. The movies rythem brings you in a kind of hypnose, and you keep on watching. Even when everything becomes too much, you want to escape for a moment, catch your breath, but you can't. Literally, every shot, every note of music, ever word spoken and every silence there is, it's all brilliant, genious, fantastic. And more of those terms. What else is there to say about this? A unique experience recommended to everyone. If you can handle it of course. Unfortunuatly it's not available on DVD in the US of A, but last year the English DVD Company Artificial Eye gave the movie a fine DVD release again. DVD and movie review Pickup on South Street Right from the opening scene you can see that this is a Fuller movie. No elegant cutting, but harsh and direct cuts to really show the situation on the train. Later you can see other things that Fuller is taking to extremes. The noir-genre is famous for it's playing with darkness, but this movie brings it to an entirely different level. Think of the extreme blackness in the scene where Candy is going trough Skip's stuff, not one or two characters that 'failed' in life but three. Other that Fuller's style there's still a lot to enjoy. Fast paced, great script, great score and fantastic actors. Recommended! Out of the Past Great noir, excellent example of the genre. It has got everything that makes the genre so appealing. And more. Tourneur's toch is easy to recognize. Fantastic role by Mitchum as well. A true classic. Must see. December 2, 200718 yr Last night me, metalheart & necro were so stoned! And we were watching two movies: 1) Hostel (again) 2) Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas It was nice :) Clanleader of the Guardians Of Fate.
December 3, 200718 yr Evening - I was indifferent towards it. I guess it was an OK movie, I just wasn't interested in it. I was having trouble keeping focused when Claire Danes wasn't on the screen :D .
December 4, 200718 yr Full Metal Jacket Seen it a million times before, but I still love it. Definately Kubrick's best work. The boot camp with the drill sergent is one of my favourite pieces of cinema. The Vietnam stuff is pretty cool too.
December 4, 200718 yr Bourne Supremacy Seen the Last one Haven't seen first or 2nd Really good (feel like watching it again :P) If you do things right people won't be sure you've done anything at all.
December 4, 200718 yr Me and some friends went on a movie marathon for my Birthday. We saw: Saw 4, The Bourne Supremacy, Rogue, Halloween and 30 Days of Night. All were okay, though Rogue and 30 Days were a bit lacking compared to the rest. sleep like dead men wake up like dead men
December 5, 200718 yr Liar Liar (on ITV2) One of my favourite comedy movies when it came out. Sometimes Jim Carrey's acting is a little embarrssing to watch as it's so over the top.. but I still love this movie :)
December 5, 200718 yr Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - Alright I guess, not as good the second time around. Wasn't great the first time around either. Kind of entertaining though, and a good one to watch with the whole family.
December 5, 200718 yr Star Wars - Episode I Resparked my Star Wars passion. Despite the hate it got from a lot of Star Wars fans, it was still my favourite of the new trilogy. I've got a Darth Maul pen holder on my desk :XD: Probally going to have to do a Star Wars Marathon one of these days. It's exam time though so the earliest I'll have a free weekend is Christmas. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar!
