Last festival day

Stardust Woo! Great fun! Good jokes, cool characters, cool players. And one heck of a star. <3 I got wet eyes from enjoyment when she started to shine. <3

Wir werden uns wiederseh'n - Bah, junk. Uninteresting, unneccesary slow. There was one scene that was cool, and that was the water ballet. The rest was just pover, silent and most of all uninteresting bullsh*t. Yes. the typical modern euro film. =;

Gone Baby. Gone - Oh, this was quite a surprise. I was a bit sceptic at the begining of the movie. As it started out as nothing special. The second part of the movie was very good though. I think Patrick Kenzie did the right thing. K.C. Affleck is quite alright by the way.

Been extremely busy, so I have only the one film to offer. Continuing my quest for classics, I watched Sunset Boulevard. Like every Wilder I've gotten my hands on so far, it was great. The combination of great writing skills, a subtle sense of humour and fabulous directing, make him one of the greatest. No question about it. My favourite quote from Sunset Blvd: "I am big. It's the pictures that got small."

28 Weeks Later.

Fantastic movie. Really beginning to enjoy Boyle's stuff. Almost as good as Sunshine and the prequel 28 days later.

There's been so many good zombie movies over the last few years... and this one does not disappoint.

boyle didnt direct 28 weeks later

thats the last film i saw too... i enjoyed it, but wasnt scary or as shocking as the first, i did like the scenes with the explosions... contrast of grey and streaks of orange were ironically beautiful. New director tried to stick with the spirit of the first, but i think there was too many hollywood moments- e.g. hellicopter blades n zobies lol

Die Hard, Die Hard 2, Die Hard: With a Vengeance, and Live Free or Die Hard - They are all entertaining movies. The first one is easily the best though, it is completely awesome. Second one I would have to say is the worst, and the last two are the middle ones. This was my first watch of LFoDH so I don't know what it will rate after repeated viewings. It did have Mary Elizabeth Winstead in it, and she is hot as hell :P .

EDIT: Forgot I watched another series earlier this week :P

Blade, Blade II, and Blade: Trinity - Sure they aren't great movies, but I enjoy them. Wesley Snipes plays a pretty good Blade in my opinion. Plus there is a hot vampire chick in the second one (Leonor Varela), and a hot vampire hunter chick in the third one (Jessica Biel). Both are enjoyable to watch  .

Requiem for a Dream.

There is no sugar coating here. This movie is packed with harsh, blunt depictions of how drug addictions, as well as other addictions, can absolutely destroy it's victims. The last 30 minutes of this film were probably the most intense 30 minutes of any movie I have ever watched. This is not a movie I will be watching again for a long time, if ever, but I am so glad I've seen it. It put the problems in my life into perspective very fast.

Evan Almighty - Better than Bruce Almighty, but that isn't saying much. Some funny parts, many more stupid parts trying and failing to be funny.

Sunshine - Holy [cabbage] I [bleep]ing love this movie. Sure it doesn't follow the normal laws of physics most of the time, but that is normal for most SciFi movies. Well I wrote about this not too long ago anyhow, so I'll just mention one more thing. Rose Byrne is really hot.

I watched Sunshine as well last night. Overall I enjoyed it, thought it tailed off a bit towards the end and turned into a something akin to a slasher film, but otherwise it was very good. Visually, it was the most stunning film i've ever seen.

"Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

Beaufort - Israeli platoon tring to survive the last days of Israeli presence on lebanese land.

Based on real events.

The director (who won the silver bear for best director for this movie) made a smart decision by excluding the politics out of the equation,

hence, this is not a movie about Israel-Hizbullah conflict but about

group of people(well..kids is a more suitable word) trying to survive as sittings ducks to invisible (you wont see a single muslim beard in this movie) enemy attacks.

i thought that the director did quite an impressing job ,first by a building a location which looks almost as the original.

second by passing the fear the isolation and the nowhere-to-hide feeling quite effectivly.

As impressive as this movie is i thought that something was still missing, that little thing that makes good movies masterpieces, cant put my finger on what it is though

more "strong" scenes :-k more action, the music? maybe, or maybe as in israeli i am too familier with this reality to be realy amazed.

Kind of did turn into a slasher at the end. Still awesome. It was visually stunning, and I really enjoyed the soundtrack also. Really was made well. However I think The Fountain was better in both categories, but differently. Kind of hard to compare them, since they used two different visual styles.

Metropolis - There's no denying this is one of the best early SciFi films. In 1927 this movie would have been visually amazing. There were some scenes that still look awesome. This is my second time watching it, and while I still enjoyed it, I didn't enjoy it as much as the first time. It's a silent film and I know you have to act differently, but it's still kind of odd. If you like dystopian films you have to see this one, as far as I know it is the first. Anyhow it's the first major one.

ÃÆÃââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ bout de souffle - This movie was a pretty good romance movie. IMDb lists it as a crime/drama movie before romance, but I thought it was mostly a romance movie. The movie's main character is a car thief who you are supposed to sympathetic to, like in most crime movies following the criminal. Still, it's pretty interesting. Not one I would watch over and over again though.

The Brave One http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0476964/

Nothing special, but still fairly enjoyable. Just a movie about good old fashioned well deserved revenge. Nice to see a movie that isn't overly concerned with political correctness (that revenge is wrong and that the law will sort them out lol).

Crash - a little disappointment after all the buildup friends made . not that it was bad,but i found it quite prediactable, (after about 10 minutes you know where you're heading)and too "by-the-book", like their was no real passion behind this movie.3/5.

Little Miss Sunshine - after watching some "important" movies this sweet little movie was quite a refreshment.nice one.

Stardust http://imdb.com/title/tt0486655/ - I thought this was a truly wonderful movie. I'd call it a fairy tale movie. It incorporated many traditional fairy tale/fantasy elements along with some original (De Niro's lightning catching ship was very cool) and they blended perfectly. I never found myself questioning the existing of anything unusual and was able to accept all aspects of the "fairy tale" world. Michelle Pfeiffer was especially enjoyable, playing one of the witches. I recommend it.

World Trade Center - While good, I didn't think it was as moving as United 93, in terms of reliving the feelings experienced on 9/11.

The Weatherman - This movie seems to fall short for some reason. At times, it feels like Cage's character is akin to Spacey's char in American Beauty, but not with near the same impact. It does have a really good soundtrack though.

Grindhouse - Not quite the same not on the big screen, but still pretty awesome. Watched the extended versions of both movies, which add a little bit. Nothing major. Mary Elizabeth Winstead singing was pretty hot.

Requiem for a Dream would've been the last movie I've seen, the moral of the story was typical when you hear the word drugs, but thats to be expected.

Not the best movie, but had its moments. Wouldn't watch it again however.

First time posting in such a large thread like this. Yay.

Through a glass darkly and Winter Light.

They're supposed to be part of a trilogy that deals with 'Faith'. The third one is called 'Silence', I didn't see that one. I was sort of dissappointed by those two I have seen, story-wise. I expected more than this kind of juvenile view about religion. Also the characters were, in different degrees, unlikeable and the atmosphere in both incredibly depressing. However, I loved the cinematography and the directing, and some of the images and scenes are gonna be stuck in my mind for quite a while, I think. The one I liked more was 'Winter Light' - even though I read 'Through a glass darkly' is generally considered the best one. WL had more of a storyline thread going through it, TAGL was more like random scenes leading to a more or less predictable outcome. The end scene in TAGL was neat though, one can't help but smirk, or smile sadly, if one is more sensitive. But what a feeble (perhaps on purpose) attempt of throwing a ray of hope into this bleak world. Oh and what I liked about WL is how the character who was the least likely to voice anything spectacular or even interesting, is the only one who understands what the main character is going through.

Oh yeah, don't watch them if you have suicidal tendencies. (just kidding.)

Sasom I en spegel generally considered to be the better one? :o Winter Light is seen by many as Bergman's masterpiece. Personally I think it is one of the best movies ever made. Too bad they dissapointed you though. I don't know what you expected it to be 'story wise' ? Tystnaden is also very good, although it's a little bit more 'experimental' than Winterlight (which is quiete daring for Bergman already, later Persona would go even further). I found Sasom the least one of the three. Still good material though. :)

You know, I've actually been wondering the same myself. And I came to a weird conclusion. I already knew the main subject of these films so I guess I expected they'd make me have a revelation of my own or at least produce an epiphany, but that didn't happen. Which is exactly what happens to the characters in these films! They try really hard to believe in something and expect a supernatural intervention but in the end they're dissappointed. Funny, huh? At least I was dissappointed in style. :P No, actually, come to think of it, I was taught a lesson about human weaknesses.

See, there's a quality not many movies have. :)

Is this your first encounter with Bergman, or not? If that's the case, you might think of him as a pretty serious, cold, preachy filmmaker. So you should check out some of his earlier movies out too, for balance. :P Sommarnattens Leende (Smiles of a Summernight), Sommaren med Monika (Summer with Monica), DjÃÆÃâÃâävulens ÃÆÃâÃâöga (the devil's eye) is really light hearted material, and allthough it's not light hearted, Smultronstallet is also so incredibly gentle. But perhaps you know all this already, and if that's the case, pay no attention to it.

BenX,

a belgian movie about an autistic boy who loves to play mmorpg's and takes revenge on the people that bully him at school (and this in his own special way).

A very strong movie, he's the belgian candidate for the foreign language oscar and has allready won several prices on festivals.

A very nice combination of movie and mmorpg combined together to create a beautifull, compelling and heartbreaking story.

I really enjoyed this movie.

Greetings

I watched Death Proof - it wasn't very good. Really its only redeeming factor was some of that Tarrantino style - plus I loved it when he himself used the term "tasty beverage".
