Shootin' And Guns!

I noticed a lack of shooting topics. I know there are some other guys on this board that like guns, c'mon! Now that I'm a bit older, I really appreciate shooting. My dad plans on finding me a .22 (I've never owned a rifle of my own), and we have a 12 ga Remington pump (we got a shorter barrel about 7 inches less than the original). It can go about 40 yards before the spread is too much to try and shoot at stuff. We had a lot of fun shooting at cans at my grandparents', and I'm a better shot than I thought. First time with a 12 gauge, pumping them off pretty fast, and I got the majority of the pellets from 4 of my 5 shells into a can (my cousin threw it up and I missed it entirely, but I hit it every shot on the ground).

So. THIS ISN'T A [bleep]ING TOPIC OVER GUN LAWS, HUNTING, OR ANY OF THAT [cabbage]. THIS IS ABOUT GUNS THAT GO BOOM AND THE CANS AND TARGETS THEY GO BOOM INTO, THUS BRINGING YOU FUN. DON'T PULL ANY CRAP.

Everyone needs to shoot a gun sometime. It's like sex. All parties within the general area (well, behind you and out of the danger zone) enjoy it.

I really want a pistol once I learn to handle a rifle good, but I have to take a gun safety course this year anyways. Carry on, my children.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

But i am making a fun Pringles cannon, does that go under here?

Its simple, 3 Pringles tins for the barrel, bottom of 2 not completely took out. Ducktape them all together, make sure you take them at least 3 times, Put in oil from the top (not too much) make little hole bout centimetre of the bottom in the side, pour some more oil in there. Put tennisball in the barrel, wait 2 minutes for the oil to vaporize (make sure you close of the bottom hole) and hold a lighter at the bottom hole, BOOM

I go clay target shooting every now and then with our PE class. I really enjoy it and there is nothing better than seeing your target get destroyed into nothing. I find I'm better at shooting the continental clays rather than the straight out ones. With the straight out it's like I have too much time and I overthink it whereas continental just go with instinct.]

I don't own any, but they are great fun. Only problem is the local shooting range burned down a while back and they never rebuilt. :| I shot an AK-47 at my uncle's house in Wisconsin a few years back. It was great.

I don't know if they really count for this topic, but I do own a Daisy-Avanti model .888 CO2-powered air rifle. ROTC air rifle team ftw. Target shooting is one of the best sports there is, plain and simple.

I only shot a BB gun rifle before. My friend and I shot a fish tank until it was nothing more than a pile of glass.

Usually my brother in law comes over on the weekends, and we shoot our 22's at targets, soda bottles, etc.

i guess you're right about that. if i turn old enough, i'm planning to do it myself. (not in front of people.)

Don't anticipate that day too much. I personally didn't get any thrill out of shooting a gun for the first time.

I enjoy shooting, I own a .40 S&W and a 20g shotgun, my dad owns a 12g shotty and we go to the range every now and then but I've always wanted to go more. My friends dad is a swat member and he let me shoot an M4 at the range a couple days ago, it was amazing. <3:

We own a variety of shotguns, rifles, and a couple pellet guns. It's really fun once you get used to a particular gun and are able to make those impressive shots. It's just as fun with a bow, but requires a bit more skill. Not sure if I can expand on thsi much as we're not to include hunting. I do enjoy target challenges though. Usually a couple of friends and myself will get together and have a good time, or just me, my brother, and my dad.

When I was 12 there was also a hunters safety course. I remember taking that with all my friends. We shot off a variety of rifles and a couple shotguns that day. I remember saving my target from the .22 challenge, as I did so well on it for my first time shooting one (just had pellet guns before that). The shotgun was fun to see everyone try, as we were young and most of us not used to the kick it could give. After seeing a couple kids nearly fall on their [wagon], I was prepared for my shot. I remember, we were just shooting at some cardboard up against a bush. We then wondered where the dog was (course was in some guys yard). After he called for it it came running out from behind the cardboard. Luckily, it wasn't there during any of the shots.

[hide=Full Metal Jacket quote]HARTMAN: Do any of you people know who Charles Whitman was? None of you [wagon]es knows? Private Cowboy?

COWBOY: Sir, he was that guy who shot all those people from that tower in Austin, Texas, sir!

HARTMAN: That's affirmative. Charles Whitman killed twelve people from a twenty-eight-storey observation tower at the University of Texas from distances up to four hundred yards. Anybody know who Lee Harvey Oswald was? Private Snowball?

SNOWBALL: Sir, he shot Kennedy, sir!

HARTMAN: That's right, and do you know how far away he was?

SNOWBALL: Sir, it was pretty far! From that book suppository building, sir!

HARTMAN: All right, knock it off! Two hundred and fifty feet! He was two hundred and fifty feet away and shooting at a moving target. Oswald got off three rounds with an old Italian bolt action rifle in only six seconds and scored two hits, including a head shot! Do any of you people know where these individuals learned to shoot? Private Joker?

JOKER: Sir, in the Marines, sir!

HARTMAN: In the Marines! Outstanding! Those individuals showed what one motivated marine and his rifle can do! And before you ladies leave my island, you will be able to do the same thing![/hide]

I just don't want to include hunting and gun laws and crap because I don't want a flame war. I'd like to learn how to use a bow, but it looks extremely hard.

My sister came out while we were shooting, and quit after one shot. We had to catch her, and my dad helped her hold the gun. It was funny.

Full Metal Jacket is hilarious.

If you do learn to use a bow, you'll find it very satisfying when you hit your target. Even more-so than a gun. \'

i used to have awesome aim with a .22 rifle. i was better than my dad, and my 2 best friends at shooting at targets at various distances. 12 gauge shotgun is fun too, i dropped my GBA at work once and broke the screen, got pissed, so after work i went to my friends house, set it on a fencepost, asked to use his shotgun, and blew the [cabbage] out of it.

I don't actually own any heavy guns just a pellet and paintball. I would get a rifle if i could but i havn't found a shooting range thats within a decent drive and the darn noise laws out here make it impossible for me to actually shoot one

i do love shooting though and actually went to the asistant rifle coach training camp that is offered through the air cadets here in canada so i'm actually qualififed to help rifle coaches when they train shooters

Just so ticked at that course though because for the final marksmenship test i got the 2nd highest award... i was 1 bloody mm away with my last shot before getting #1  would love to try it again but to old for air cadets now :(

Me behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home from a party after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Aladin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with seven men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos, Pac man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies who always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! if you had this childhood and loved it put this in your signature!

I've shot both a rifle and a compound bow (which I currently own), and I can say this with absolute certainty; hitting the target with a bow is a LOT harder than with a gun for me. My overall accuracy with a decent rifle is within 2-3 inches of where I want to hit at about 100 yards. With a bow, that's within a foot of where I want to hit at about 10 yards. It's fun nonetheless, though.

I plan on getting a Yugoslavian or Chinese SKS sometime soon, once my permit goes through. I have a very keen liking of guns and their importance in human history, and I plan on going to the range quite often with my baby :P (though I'll probably get laughed at for having an SKS)

Overall, though, the SKS is quite a reliable gun. Just as durable and powerful as an AK47, but its legal for civvies to own since its not an automatic (Canadian law - I'm sure its different in the States).

I'd like to learn how to use a bow, but it looks extremely hard.

I might learn how to in PE this coming year, that's like the one reason I signed up for the class I'm taking. :P (Uhh, yeah, I'm one of those nerds who watch people fire bows in MMORPGs and fantasy movies and think it's awesome, and want to do it myself - even though I'd probably be a complete failure at it)

Never even considered firing a gun though. I'm pretty sure gun laws in Massachusetts are really strict. Maybe I'll do it out-of-state sometime, I suppose it'd be fun. :P
