Blood Runs Deep - A Struggle?

So many people on the forums today and yesterday seemed to be struggling with the new quest (Awesome BTW), and the reason why really escapes me?

 

i was only a combat level 113 now 114 thanks to reward but at the time of completion i had

 

75 range

80 mage

95 str

76 att and def

70 prayer

 

and still i see people with far superior stats to me failing? or struggling, mostly with the final fight?

 

i think everyone is panicing too much reminising of when they first did horror from the deep and struggled then... because i know i did, or during RFD when you have to fight the gellatinoth mother.

 

any one care to offer some insight? or share their experience

King Vargas took me 2 tries

Sentinels took 2 tries

Mother took 2 tries

As for all 3 my tactics were slightly off and had to adapted.

 

All the maxed combat people in my clan are like utterly stuck at vargas though lol

2 tries in like dieing, and having to go back to your grave etc?

No.

 

As in vargas got pwned and I had to restart with more/better food.

And I was running low on supplies and getting nowhere on sents so bailed.

And mother I got colours muddled and had pot/food ratio wrong so had to bail with her bout half hp.

 

Second time I did each no trouble

I struggled with the mother the first try but only because I didn't bring a staff so all my spells were splashing. A friend had trouble because he kept using the wrong attack.

Well, I didn't have any troubles with anything before the mother. The first time, I used a bad tactic, which got me owned by her melee attack. Since i was already low on food from the sentinels, and the fights before that, i teleported out. The second time I lagged badly, and got killed. The third time I got her finished off quickly, only using 3 rocktails. :)

 

The colours and switching attacks was never really a problem. Figuring out that it was her melee attack, and not the range or magic attack that hit me for 40+ attacks was worse though >.<

I didn't have any major problems.

 

Vargas almost died on me a few times but I got him through ok. I found a safespot for one of the sentinels so that I could just attack the other one which meant it didn't get healed, easy enough. And the mother took me about 5 sharks to kill. Pray melee, karils, sorted. I did have a unicorn with me for a spot of extra healing when needed as well.

I made it out of the king vargas with 3hp remaining with no food or prayer left. A little too close for comfort but I soon found out that I would die anyway. On the first try I wasted a lot of food on the mother because I couldn't tell what colour she was changing to until I looked in the chatbox. Killed her easily on my second try, would've done it way faster if I saw that staff in my inventory that I didn't use until she was almost dead.

Vargas died twice before I finally got frustrated. I just loaded a pack yak and did the rest of the quest with it. Though I somehow forgot Earth runes for the mother and made a quick bank, the rest was quite easy. I'm just holding off on the reward for a while because I'd rather get Summoning xp than Prayer. :mellow:

This seems to be the standard approach, but I'm wondering why? (I haven't tried it yet.) It seems to me that against something that uses three attack styles, you wear mele armour (which protects against both mele and range) and pray mage. This is especially so if, as I've heard, you do the big damage with the axe. So if I wear full bandos (or torags), dragon boots, zerker ring, it seems I could withstand most attacks and get better hits. Is the answer that her mele attacks are stronger than her mage?

I have the same feelings about the Summers end quest. I breezed through the end of that, doing the first two rooms first time, without banking between, having a half attempt at the final room with that same invent, and then doing it in one full try after banking. But people seem to struggle so much with it, i thought it was fairly easy, it just required patience.

I got tired of the 3 dagganoths piling vargas so I ended up ice barraging that part. Other than that it was fairly long but easy and fun.

you could do that, but personaly i wore melee legs ,switching between a dhide and mage top. also, she uses the same style in a row for awhile, so you can change prayers with her.

personaly, i went thu the entire quest banking once. (and that was more to store stuff than to restock.)

personaly, i went thu the entire quest banking once. (and that was more to store stuff than to restock.)

Used ahrims + axe with rune xbow in inven. pretty easy.

took 3 tries for vargas (first time i ran off, second time i didn't have enough food to keep him alive, third time i got it)

Up to the sentinels took me 1 try, then I had to bank and try sentinels a second time and got them (after help from Tip.it!)

Mother took me 5 tries.

#1 I didn't have runes

#2 I didn't have range

#3 I had too little food + not enough armour

#4 i had too little food + not enough armour

#5 I brought a war tortoise and brought along a granite platebody which basically stopped all the range attacks and I only ate 6 food.

 

 

Basically.. If you've got the guide it'll be *much* easier and faster.

I'm 135 Combat, and all my combat stats are 90+, yet I had difficulties with the quest. I failed during King Vargas twice, and at the Mother, I died twice and got ROL'd once.

 

But hey, I really enjoyed it.

The quests difficulty was just perfect for me....I messed up on the vargas part twice, once I ran to far before I noticed he was stuck and the second time he got pwned by the dags. Took me forever to figure out the sentinel part. The mother was pretty easy cept for when she changed her attack style while I was switching mine. Kept getting hit for 40+ when that happened. Awsome quest though, I hope Jagex keeps making them like this.

Sentinels = 1 try I found them easy to kill I just kept smacking them back and fourth, smack one turn around and smack the other. ( Easy, Peasy )

Mother = 3 Once I accidently teled out after she was half dead. :wall: Second Lag got me. 3'rd try I killed her wearing Karils as my armour.

 

My death = NONE. :cool:

I think they were all pretty easy. Never died or had to do them again.

 

Vargas: Gave him a grand total of 3 monkfish and we pulled through just fine.

Sentinels: They were easy. Used 8 monkfish and no potions.

Mother: Used 21 sharks and one prayer potion. (I used strike spells, which in retrospect was a bad idea since 80% of the time you can only attack her with mage)

I didn't have any troubles with it, and I'm combat level 125. I did have a unicorn, though. The mother took me awhile, but that's mostly because I didn't have any good mage gear and kept splashing with the spells. Also the auto-cast thing screwed me up a crapload of times. That really should be the SECOND option when right-clicking the spells. There's really no godo reason for it to be one-click. Every part only took me one try.

 

Same thing happened with Summer's End, though I did have to dot he first room twice because I chopped the logs, then lit the fire, then chopped more logs for the second, etc, and that's not a good idea.

Lol least ur mother fails are reasonable.

 

My first try I utterly blanked on the colours and thought I was remembering correctly that

white, blue, red are air water fire

Green for earth

Brown for melee

Orange for range

And she spent most time til i teled on those 3.

 

Unfortunately of course

Brown is earth

Orange is melee

Green is range

Also I fail to see why autocast messed so many ppl up.

 

I just had the axe, rune cbow and runes for all 4 spells (3 surges + fire wave)

Simply click the spell in spell book for autocast when she went tht colour.

If she then went to diff spell hit tht.

If she then came off to wep i was on hit spell again to turn off.

If she went to other wep it did waste a round but jsut hit spell and then hit wep.

 

Gave me plenty of extra time to focus on prayers n food; unlike on normal dag mum where in mage forms I had to click cast it all

All took me one try, apart from mother where I forgot a prayer pot so I went back to the bank, I knew what was coming for the mother since I've done it before in horror from deep, it wasn't a struggle at all

pretty much the same for me, but i killed the mother in one go. (same invy too.)

I'm pretty proud to say i did it without a guide. (but 1 guy did tell me about the mother ahead of time, so i was prepared.)
