Blood Runs Deep - A Struggle?

I also thought it was awesome quest and was somewhat shocked that I did it without a guide. :^_^:

This is how it went down for me ~

King Vargas = 2 trys reason being the first time I ran off without him and he got stuck behind the wall.

Sentinels = 1 try I found them easy to kill I just kept smacking them back and fourth, smack one turn around and smack the other. ( Easy, Peasy )

Mother = 3 Once I accidently teled out after she was half dead. :wall: Second Lag got me. 3'rd try I killed her wearing Karils as my armour.

My death = NONE.

pretty much the same for me, but i killed the mother in one go. (same invy too.)

I'm pretty proud to say i did it without a guide. (but 1 guy did tell me about the mother ahead of time, so i was prepared.)

If you read the dialogue the npcs tell you 15,000 times the mothers coming up so for me Brundt warned me :P

If you know how to handle the fights no real guide is necessary as the quest holds your hand quite a bit. Taking you everywhere, telling you what to do, etc.

I had to redo the escort three times. Once, because I tried to rush the ladder, twice, because I kept trying to give food to the dagannoths (stupid roller-ball mouse!), and three times because I just overall messed up.

I had to tele out the first time I fought the mother, too. Forgot my air runes...<_<

I think I failed so many times because I wasn't cautious and I tried to do this quest like all the others: fast, melee only slaughter.

And the mother took me about 5 sharks to kill. Pray melee, karils, sorted.

This seems to be the standard approach, but I'm wondering why? (I haven't tried it yet.) It seems to me that against something that uses three attack styles, you wear mele armour (which protects against both mele and range) and pray mage. This is especially so if, as I've heard, you do the big damage with the axe. So if I wear full bandos (or torags), dragon boots, zerker ring, it seems I could withstand most attacks and get better hits. Is the answer that her mele attacks are stronger than her mage?

Apparantly she can hit 40's with her melee attack. I got hit for 17 max with either her mage/range attack. I honestly don't know why people found it hard? The only thing I messed up on was wondering why I was still casting Earth Surge when I had my axe equipped. Stupid autocast option!

Oh I also put on a crystal shield when I was maging/ranging (alot of the time) to help boost up my range defence.

Vargas died twice before I finally got frustrated. I just loaded a pack yak and did the rest of the quest with it. Though I somehow forgot Earth runes for the mother and made a quick bank, the rest was quite easy. I'm just holding off on the reward for a while because I'd rather get Summoning xp than Prayer.

You might as well just use the points now, because there was no option to use it on summoning, unless they have changed that since yesterday

They haven't and they have said they won't.So might as well use it up.

If you die, do you get a grave. I hope so, but was wondering since at some quest places you don't.

if you die at the queen you get a grave, and is taken to this Valhall place (fremmenik/viking heaven) If you ask just to be taken to back to the island, it is just a minute run back to the grave. If you die at the queen, that is. I don't know if you get a grave if you die in the dream land.

Baba Yaga warns of dying in dream so grave would be a no.

King Vargas bit is non-instanced so u get grave.

After that u've been to the longhall in the sky and are told when u die you will get a grave and she can send u back "on your path" or to your usual spot. Ergo you do a grave and can opt to be jumped right back in the relevent palce

Out of all the quests I've ever done that was the most ridiculous, overpowered reward I had ever received. 450,000 experience for that?! 450,000 experience, which is more than the experienced offered in While Guthix Sleeps? Was this quest supposed to be harder than a grandmaster quest? I just don't understand.... perhaps Jagex significantly overestimated the difficultly of Blood Runs Deep? Because I finished that quest in literally under two hours without a guide in the morning of the release day. While Guthix Sleeps took me AT LEAST 5 hours with a guide, and over two days to complete because of some frustrating aspects of it. Sure Blood Runs Deep had some epic battles we haven't seen in any other quest; I believe there were a total of four areas where you either had to dodge monsters or kill them, and then there was the final boss. The final boss... don't get me started... what a pushover. When I saw her combat level I almost freaked out and ran out of the room, but a few minutes into the fight I had only consumed 2 tuna potatoes and had gotten her down to half health.

I agree with you; I don't see how people can have any difficultly with this quest. The only people who might have any bit of trouble is people who lack 43 prayer (I do admit, you have to pray alot in the quest).

I've noticed most people are stuck on the mother. Here's a short miniguide on how to beat her:

This was my set up: Mage top, d'hide bottom, neitz helm, accumulator, mystic boots, unholy book, air staff, rune crossbow, broad bolts, that axe thing that you kill the dags with, glory, ring of life, 300 blood runes, 300 death runes, 700 of each elemental rune except air, one click teleport out, bunyip, a prayer pot, a super att/str and range pot, and the rest tuna potatoes. When the fight begins get out your axe and hit the mother til she starts changing colors. Then back away from her so she can't melee you (her melee attacks can hit in the 40s, very nasty). Pray range or mage depending on what attack she's using (pay attention, she changes them about every 30 seconds). She'll change colors about every 10 seconds. The colors tell you what attack she is weak to. Orange = melee (put on protect from melee, get our your axe, put piety on, and attack her). Green = range (get our rune c'bow and unholy book). Blue = water spells (water surge). White = air spells (air surge). Brown = earth spells (earth surge). Red = fire spells (fire surge). Just watch your prayer and drink the doses when needed (I only used one dose the whole battle).

You MUST bring at least two combat styles to beat her. If you bring just range for example, she'll only be weak to mage or melee attacks, rendering your attacks useless. I highly suggest you bring all three attack styles (and all four elemental spells), so you can attack her every time.

By popular demand, this signature is back- however I currently do not have a blog up at the moment and if I did I wouldn't update it. Sorry, the sig links to nowhere :( .

Is it possible to poison the mother? Also, does she appear to be susceptible to any particular attack style?

The same as the original mother.

What hurts her is based on colour.

White - Air magic owns, all else is fail

Blue - water magic

brown - earth magic

red - fire magic

green - ranged

orange - melee

Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology. I didn't mean "mage" or "range" or mele." I meant stab or crush or slash.

Stays one 1 colour so long it doesn't matter.

Plus you use Balmung for melee (given in the quest) it has slash and crush options but either way it hit dagganoths HARD (125 str bonus and lvl 85 str = easily hitting mid 30s)

Wasn't that hard tbh, but then again I was 136 cmb

Vargas: Just walk not long away from him and attack all the enemies infront of you with melee protect. Just have enough food with you. I used about 3 or 4 sharks

Sentinels, They were pretty easy. Just hit first one, hit 2nd one, hit first one, hit 2nd one and so on.

Mother, It was pretty easy, just keep away from melee attack, and pray range or magic. same deal as with the one from horror from the deep. I used the new axe, diamond bolts and surge spells. I used about 2 prayer pots and like 8 sharks.

Vargras 3 times, since the first 2 times I didn't know I had to kill the dags before he could climb the ladder. Everything else in first go.

You had to kill the dags? I didn't... didn't even need to wait up for him to catch up. Running to the next ladder worked fine.

Hours of temple trekking has made me a pro escort, I'm not lying when I say Vargas was never touched.

Sentinels were very very easy, once you understood them, which didn't take much effort at all.

Mother: Had a great time with all my Void helms, thought she did land some lucky hits.

A great, fun quest. I always wondered if Rellecka would ever be invaded by the daggermouths.

I found it pretty easy, but I must admit I used a guide, so I knew what was going to happen. I used overload at the mother and she was a pushover this way (surge spells, broad bolts, balwung)

Balmung close ;P

I found it just as annoying fighting the First Mom in Horrors from the Deep.

I had to fight the Mother Daggannoth twice due to a lacking inventory and rushing through the cave to see how bad this could be. If I had left the cave, banked, went back with full supplies (Food, prayer, a summon etc.) I would have likely killed the mother in one shot (that was because I brought it down to around 1/8 to 1/10 HP before I knew what would happen with 0 prayer and 30 HP).

Other than that, I fou d that the second time fighting it was all too easy. Once you study its attack styles and how much damage one attack does, the battle will go into your favor. I only complained about the weapon switching an still having a magic attack still on due to the 1-click auto cast. Really annoying on my part.

I really don't see how Higher level players could have trouble. Its all tactics if you would say. (For the guardians, you nail one big hit, move to the next till you hit, then move to the other and repeat, not very hard if you are tactical).
