This list seems to be full of very old names or people with high total levels, experience points or ranks. And if everyone DOES get hacked, I'm sure Jagex would do something about it...hopefully. :mellow:

I don't know what to make of it, I tried to log in one day and it said my account was already on and I am the only one that knows my password. I changed my password since then so if it was hacked, it's not now.

I'd say no. It stopped my internet from responding each time I got on there to look up a name.

I'm on that list, twice (hobgoblinpie and Hobgoblinpie). Seems a lot of the names are just doubles, so you could probably take the list down to 400k.

 

I'm gonna to call bs on it, but if the dude really wants to try it, bring it on. unless he's worked out my password and bank pin without logging me on, I doubt it's going to do anything.

The hacker probably wrote a script to randomly select 750k account names from the high score then posted it on a web page to try and scare people. This reminds me of conficker C, Global warming, and the easter bunny.

If anyone actually believes this please feel free to slap yourself.

I'm on there! :grin: But since I am an O I am more or less half way down the list. So I have around 12 hours after he starts to change my pass. I have such a good, memorable one now that I don't want to change it just because some 13 year old WoW nerd wants to cause panic.

Eh, my e-mail's registered with my account anyway. If this many people were hacked and lost their account, you bet your [wagon] that Jagex would intervene and do a roll-back + password reset (and e-mail your password to you if you are registered). They would likely do something because that's a huge revenue loss.

 

And I bet his site installs a keylogger onto your computer. It makes sense. He lures people onto his site by having a list, and people cause a self-fulfilling prophecy because they log onto their character with a keylogger. Thus, they get hacked.

 

I highly suggest that a mod immediately remove the link, and if people want to check the list, run a google search or something. Don't actually enter the site, though.

I'm on there and I don't have a high total lxl, xp, or rank, I'm halfway tempted to change pw on another laptop...Could that site put some kind of trojan on you're computer if you just opened it and never dloaded anything from it? Sorry lol little paranoid, if this is the "hackers" object, he's got me haha

I am no techno-nerd but as fas as I know, you can't get a trojan from a .txt or a .jpeg (first and second links respectivly) but I'm not sure. I feel safer viewing the .txt so I looked at it. My main is on there but not my pure (which I only use for price checking items) or my brothers old account.

Yes, definitely, a virus can be in a file with any suffix including .txt especially if it's an e-mail attachment. However it is unlikely that you will be infected without actually opening the file. I would download the file (if it comes from a reputable site) and save it to hdd then scan it with your AV to be more sure of its content.

A text file can contain a virus' code but CANNOT be executed and is harmless in a genuine .txt format.

My only concern is that the site itself is infected. Otherwise, the only way he could pull off something like this would be to hack into Jagex's servers, directly, which is almost impossible, given that they are run in Linux.

Lame...I'm on the list twice...wait...so I migth be double hacked! maybe the second hackign will reverse the first...

I'm more worried about a possibly keylogger on the site, than any kind of mass hacking. Typing in passwords in OSK just in case :?
