Firecape V.S Skill Capes (t)

Featured Replies

*NOTE, This is aimed at respectable Skill Capes that are trimmed*

Over the past three odd months since I've gotten my Fire cape, 99 Range, 99 Hunter and 99 Strength, I've become really hesitant on what to wear for almost everything I do in Runescape. I do like to mention that I am level 45 Defence and a combat level of 95.

Firstly, I know the Skill cape is a great achievement but is it really worth it to wear over a Fire cape's stats when in combat or do you just want to show off the achievement? (When I say this I mean a skill cape which is obviously hard to achieve, for example Slayer/Prayer)

Secondly, When I do any sort of PvP I will certainly never wear a Combat Skill cape. The reason is that the cape gives the opponent a hint on what to look out for when the two are in combat. So, would you wear a Skillcape to PvP or a Firecape? (In this I mean in both Dangerous and Safe PvP)

And lastly, What do you prefer to wear when just skill training or having a chat?

What would you choose to wear in all three of the arguments above in your case and also in my case please. (45 Defence, 95 Combat)

I don't have a firecape quite yet due to me not trying yet lol. But when I do go for it I'm sure I'll wear it while I slay. Currently I like wearing my prayer skillcape or an accumulator.

It's a tough one but I generally wear my Slayer/Summoning cape over my Fire cape. Just because those are two rare capes and I like showing them off.

i have achieved 99 range this past year and i love the cape.

the only reason i have not gone for a fire cape is because i dont know if im going to wear it because i dont wanna take my skill cape off. The reason? because without it on no one will know that you have 99 range and i wont feel as cool and powerful lol.

But i have decided im going to get a fire cape within the next month. i will probably only wear it for gwd and harder monsters to kill.

To answer your questions.

Depends. Prayer cape is hawt, but fire cape does help speed, ever so slightly.

I always, always, always, always wear my fire cape when doing anything combat related. I'll never wear a skill cape over a fire cape while slaying. I might do it if I were doing something extremely dangerous and didn't want to lose my fire cape, however.

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

First off pking with a fire cape isn't a bright idea because they are harder to get back than a skill cape.

I always prefer to wear my fire cape with no armor when I am skilling or chatting just because it is super sexy ;)

In normal worlds Fire cape.

In bh/pvp worlds either skill cape or team cape.

I don't have a fire cape yet, but depending on the skill cape, I'd wear the fire cape. If it was something good like prayer, slayer, or runecrafting, then I'd wear the skill cape, even while training combat. But if it was something not quite as good, like strength (too common), I'd wear the fire cape.

While skilling and chatting, I'd definitely wear the skill cape over the fire cape, probably regardless unless it was one of my least favorite 99s lol

Construction cape while doing skilling, Fire Cape for combat, no matter what.

Fire cape by far.

If people wanted to know what 99's you had, they can easily use the hiscores.

Fire capes don't appear on the hiscores :P

Fire capes also look cooler AND has much better stats =]

Edit: I have 11 fire capes as of now, I kinda stopped doing Jad awhile back :P

I would say an IMPRESSIVE skill cape (ie, Slayer, Construction, Prayer, Summoning) is better than a Fire Cape, since it shows more dedication (ie, more time is needed to make the money for contruction, or spent gathering charms).

As well, Fire Capes on Zerkers or Range/Mage Tanks are less respectable as well in my eyes. Every zerker and tanker should have a fire cape by level 70, no questions asked .

(Unfortunately for me, I didn't get membership until I was combat 69. I didn't even know what "tanks" or "firecapes" were back then).

However, as a general rule, Impressive Skill Capes (Summoning, etc) > Fire Cape > Noob-Friendly Capes (Cooking.. classic example).

Those are just my thoughts.

Definately less respectable on ranged based mains but I can't see why it's less respectable on a zerker. It's not exactly difficult lol but it is harder than doing it on a main. I did my fire cape at 1 defence 70 range yet even now as a level 101 zerker I still get people saying wow how did you get fire cape at 45 defence.

I nowadays usually wear soul wars cape over my slayer 99 (t) cape when doing combat. Prayer is quite important in most things.

Skillcape over Fire Cape, because I don't roll combat (I used to, but I focus on skilling now). Once I get my Mining (t) I'll wear it all the time. All in due time, of course. For now I'll be wearing my Woodcutting (t) :P.

Soul Wars cape!

But yeah, I know this topic was made before that was released, and that wasn't even part of the question.

I say, if you want stats, use a fire cape. If you want to show off, wear a skill cape. If you're in dangerous PvP, skillcape because it doesn't take hours to get back. Safe PvP, fire cape, for the stats. But there are so many other capes for so many other situations, it's not always a battle between them. Overall, I'd go with a fire cape, because to be honest, showing off in Runescape is a waste. Ever since I got a Soul Wars cape, I haven't worn my quest cape since.

My solution is skillcape when skilling and firecape when conbatting.

When just walking around Rs or skilling I wear skill capes. Often when in combat (Slayer/GodWars/ect.) I'll wear my fire cape for the bonuses. It's nice to show off your achievements, but sometimes the bonuses of the fire cape outweigh the pride in one's skill cape.

Fire cape for any Player versus anything, Spottier cape for any skilling. Skill capes suck and are ugly

I'm quite sure the person you quoted agrees with your point. Unless you think getting the firecape back is easier... I'm confused, to be honest. I'm not sure if using snotty remark such as "do the math" can really work in place of an explaination of what you're trying to argue.

Firecape when training things related to melee (or maybe that nomad cape when praying), skill cape when not.

  • 1 month later...

I think it depends on your level.

A level 50 with a Skillcape is impressive. A lvl 60 with a combat related one is quite amazing.

However, a level 130 with a skill cape isin't as impressive. Its already obvious you'd have many 99s. A fire cape shows you've done something that depends on your skill, rather then clicking.
