Jan. 11 Update Speculation responsible for many items crashing?

Not sure if its true but is the speculation leading up to the jan.11 update making many items crash? I heard many people are panic selling armor/weapons because they fear it will become obselete due to this update. Is this speculation the cause of many items crashing?

Where did you get this kind of information? You know, about an update on Jan 11st

Well, a lot of people are talking about it in game and on the forums:

quick find code: 17-18-684-60148391

and heres a quote from that thread:

01-Jan-2010 19:45:40

What update what !?!?!

**********************************************

Apparently Jagex has said they are releasing an update on the 11th. However, they have not said, how big or small it is, nor have they mentioned anything at all about it.

Everyone is panicking because they think that everything Jagex said in their new years message, such as, "new quests, new skill, new equipment and rewards" is all coming out on the 11th.

Basically what they said was that these are some of the things that will be coming out in the year of 2010.

Not saying I can tell the future or anything but if you look at a lot of the armor/weapons e.g Godswords, DFS, Bandos etc. they are all certainly dropping in price quite a bit. What I think is that the speculation about this major update could be a factor in a lot of these items dropping in price.

That, my friend, is called price manipulating, GWD armor, along with DFS and many other items have been on a rollercoaster of price ups and downs, due to the manipulators, besides, JaGeX wouldn't release a major update on the beginning of the year, it makes no sense, what would they have for the rest of the year? Other than the new skill

Well supposedly what some people have said is that in the past, Jagex has started each new year with a major update. I do not have any sources or information to back this up so i could be totally wrong about that.

lol, did you even look at the thread? seriously its got 4 pages, so little people even know it exists theres no way it could have made ANY impact on economy. That thread is just some place where a dude is speculating will we get a queswt, and another dude saying "AMG WE GET ARMORZ". And pouches are also dropping, and alot of other things, but its a little, but wide price drop. I cant even call this a "crash".

The clock is ticking, and your time is running out, mortals.

When will these idiots learn that when jagex announces that some update is coming "next year" there is still 12 months for them to wait before releasing it...

why the 11th? There will be an update this week to remove the xmas event.

Things like this happen after every holiday, people are hyped in to dumpping their items expecting that they are going to crash and end up losing loads to merchers. Exactly what happened at the end of the summer hols.

Alot of players are indeed panicing. I think that this is the cause of prices to drop significantly atm.

But as usual with a panic drop, I also think prices will shoot up again in a (few) day(s).

My advice: if you have alot of junk, buy crashing items with lots of junk, hold it and sell your rising item on ge again.

In the last crash, I bought a dfs for 22m cash + 12m junk and sold the dfs a week later for 36m cash. Result: 2m profit and got rid of 12m of the worst crashing junk imagineable. (black flowers btw)

People that get all skidish when the price of a godsword or DFS fluctuate cant afford the item and should not have bought it in the first place.

Yeah I do think people running around believing that there's big things to come and why not, but the question is when here are the scenarios and how they play out in my mind.

Scenario 1: The new skill - I doubt it's before march just because the way Jagex Mods talk about the new skill it doesn't sound like it's ready but what's to say it's buyable I hear people saying "it has to be a money sink because.." but it doesn't have to be anything and could be unbuyable.

Scenario 2: the new armour/s - A new monster gets released which means players flocking to obtain this armour, the armour could boast 80+ defence requirements, but hold on? what do you need to fight this monster? perhaps some bandos and maybe even a dragonfire shield.. so why are you selling you're armour when you'll need it.

OMGZ JADEX ARE MAKING ARMORZ UNTRADIBLE ON THE 11TH SELL NOW!

Seriously... If people are THAT afraid for their "hard earned" cash, they shouldnt even have any items in the first place.

When the update comes out and having good armor makes the update even better, im going to laugh at all the people who sold their stuff.

For all anyone knows, there could be a new set of gloves that give a higher strength bonus then barrows gloves does.

AGS, Bandos, DFS, Whip will all go up from people wanting to try the new max hit.

(That above is just an example though, I have no idea if new gloves are coming out.)

Its also new years. Many people could be selling all their stuff to see how big they can get their cash pile for the new year.

I did this before, its rather fun. :P You get a fresh start with a nice pile of cash.

I kinda loose faith in for future updates if everytime jagex say "We are releasing new equipment" is going to crash the market.

Bandos crashes, they release some items kinda like the summoning headresses then bandos skyrockets in price again.

No. If there is ever a crash, it is because people who create accounts on forums just to make a thread spreading false speculations and creating a mock hype of updates that are non-existent.

This.

I swear, if i ever become a player who earn GP on other's misery i would make loads accounts and use auto chat and spam out a speculations.

Example

I could buy over 200 Dragon halberd

"OMFG Dragon halberd is going up, OMFG OMG!!"

Few players (around 20-50) fall for the bait, it makes slight increase in price...and more players will believe that Dragon halberd is actually going up.

This is why the forums should have been kept P2P. Anyone can make accounts and spam causing a fake hype.

Once upon a time, Jagex put out a BTS where, among other things, they said "Hold on to your robin hood hats folks, because ... (something)"

To anyone with a brain and a clue, this was just an obvious joking modification of "Hold on to your hats folks ...."

To everyone else (seemingly about 75% of the RSOF) this was a CLEAR message from Jagex that robin hood hats were going to be made untradeable/rarer/whatever and they went nutso buying them and spreading rumors and so forth.

For those who say that people just make multiple accounts to spread false info on the forums and the forums should have been kept p2p: Did you not know that you need around 12mil total exp before you can post in the forums? I doubt anyone is going to make like 10 accounts and get 12mil exp on all of those just to spread false information...
