A question of etiquette

Featured Replies

Okay, so I wanted to get money, so i went off to that chaos druid tower just north of Ardougne. I think there are four or five druids spawning there continually, and giving all herbs except perhaps snapdragons, so it's an easy place to pick up two or three hundred thousand coins an hour.

When I got there another player was already inside doing the same. I didn't think that was a problem; plenty to go around. But when I came back after my first bank run to deposit the herbs I'd collected this other player repeatedly said 'Please leave me alone' and then 'I have you on my ignore list'. (NB My account is QuickChat only).

When he said 'I have you on my ignore list' I said 'Okay' - like, I really don't mind. But evidently this guy thought it was really mean of me to come along and try to make money in an area where he was already doing the same. I found this pretty surprising. I mean, throughout my year and a bit of playing I've had people jump my mining spot, for instance. It just seems it's the way of the game that people are sometimes competing for the same resources. But what seemed odder was that he said it about a location where two people can easily collect money together and still both get 300K an hour; it isn't like my being there was really stopping him do what he wanted.

Even though this other guy was lvl93, and so quite a bit lower than me, he had Void Knight on and was using throwing knives, where I had Karil's and was using the bow with bolt-racks. That is, he was attacking faster than me, so if he did think of it in terms of competition, he'd get the kill first every time.

Was he just oversensitive, or was it really bad form for me to jump in?

When I see someone at this kind of training spot I usually politely state that I will hop, and will do so.

It's better to actually say this, because last time the reply was "don't bother to hop, I'm done here".

There are usually free worlds for this kind of training, resource gathering, so i think it is polite to hop. But then again the other person doesn't really have to [bleep] about it when you don't. It is a free world. You can do whatever you want when it is within the rules of the game.

Either meet the competition and beat them or hop.

I always take extra precautions if I'm doing something which can be competitive. I take a few mage pots to the DK's (funny as hell when 2 magers fail to beat you to a kill) and rock lobsters, a few air strikes to single combat monsters and make sure I have enough prayer for piety in multi combat situations.

Competition is part of the game and if they can't take the competition then they will generally step down.

Nothing like being quicker then the other guy/girl.

I personaly like being alone and cant relax the same way as I do alone when someone else is say killing slayer monsters together with me.

If I were to fnd a world where there was someone, I usualy say il change worlds as they were there first.

For me it really depends on the activity or my mood that day.

Some times I actually like to compete with someone as it motivates me to be the most efficient as possible and I get more done before becoming bored and doing something else.

I don't like it when I'm mining at a place that only has enough ore spots for one person and someone with a significantly higher level comes in a pushes me off my spot. I think it is

sort of rude but you don't need to say anything to them. You just deal with it or hop.

People who ask our advice almost never take it. Yet we should never refuse to give it, upon request, for it often helps us to see our own way more clearly.

Still the proud owner of Quest Cape since 8th December 2007

All skills used to be 70 or higher. (Dang you Dungeoneering. Oh wait, it's not a skill...)

Drops: Whips 8, Black Mask 8, D/Skirt 1, D/Spear 1, D/Shield Left Half 1, D/Boots 12, G/Maul 4, Range Ammy 1, Hexcrest 1.

I wish people would. Be polite and hop. I would have got hunter with less stress. For some reason hunter seemed to be a magnet for rude people. But I always hopped and found better places. But I find my self not backing down from the crashers. I was at bandits with 2 other people and a cannon. I was the last guy there. Yeah after 99 hunter. You can deal with a lot of rude people.

But for the most part I find it easier to just hop.

Etiquette might simply be a matter of stating what you are thinking, i.e. "There seems to be plenty here for both of us; however, I will hop if you don't think so too."

As is said here, some enjoy company; others don't. We have no way of knowing unless we make our own thoughts known. I believe it would be just fine to state your own thoughts even if you were the one there first. How the incoming party responds will let you know a little about them. This can start a very nice friendship or simply let you know they are not the type you would enjoy being with. If they are rude in what they say and let it be known they are not hopping, I would probably hop .. yes, even if I had been there first. I would hop because I want all I do in RS to be pleasant. I would even rather do something else for awhile rather than compete with someone who is rude.

I am what I am! Acknowledging this is the beginning and my growth is yet to end!!

I can see why he'd want you to leave, that spot can barely hold one player never mind two players.

Etiquette is hoping if there is any need, or they ask. But you don't need to. Sometimes there are plenty to go around. My rule is, if its an area which isn't always crowded (EG not green dragons) then if they ask me to hop, or if I am being slowed down, I hop. If they flame, or try to get my kills, I go all out and keep them from getting any. ( In a multi combat area.)

I like to hop for my own sake-I like the quietness and the advantage of having the whole spawn to myself. That chaos druid spawn is rather small imo, I can't train there with another player and get the same rates as if I was alone.

:v

This person may have thought you to be a notorious player of similar name who was banned some months ago.

But other than that, you shouldn't really threaten ignores when someone isn't saying anything... I ignore people for that.

Also, I get bored and leave if I am the only person at a training spot. Just isn't interesting for me then. Please stay.

Generally, if I see someone at a spot and they were there first, I will hop. Although, I can't say I'll do the same if that particular spot has plenty of things to kill for the both of us. Sometimes I will if I think it'll avoid an argument, or if they ask me politely, and that's even if the world isn't crowded. But If there were plenty to go around, I don't blame you for not hopping.

[hide]sevestia.png[/hide]

I always hopped. Mostly because I don't like other people.

[bleep] the law, they can eat my dick that's word to Pimp

It depends. Chaos druids don't have much hp, and since the both of you have decent stats and are using fast-firing weapons, I can imagine how 5 spawns is not enough to go around. Tbh, I doubt that the other person went directly from asking you to leave to saying "I'm going to put you on my ignore list." If I were in that situation, I would have hopped. It's the decent thing to do, and both people will great more xp and drop than if you were fighting over the druids.

Tact.gif

I do enjoy talking to people, and will have an inteligent conversation. However, I don't enjoy it when people just butt in, believe they can be rude, and tell off everybody, just because they have a higher {insert stat here} stat. It's pixels people. Pixels.

Fighting over a monster or having a tantrum about a drop really isn't worth it. :<

I've recently changed my username to TehStalker in RS. I usually meow at people being rude to me, thenI follow them around saying creepy stuff like "I like to watch you sleep..." This dosn't serve any purpose, but its funny as hell for me. Sometimes it does work and people leave.

I really dislike dealing with other people. I usually hop unless I'm in a bad mood, in which case I most likely won't even respond.

I only usually encounter any contention doing slayer these days and I will always hop if another person's presence is going to slow me down, I'll hop even if I was there first. I don't mind other people being there if they don't interfere with my kills but all it takes is one "another player is attacking that" message and I'm out of there. If I'm at a spot that can support only one player I usually ask a newcomer if they're planning to stay, if they say yes then I hop - I don't have time to wait for spawns or fight for kills.

I always found company while doing endlessly boring grinding nice. I hated having no one there to talk to. Then again... Its better to be alone then to be with an [wagon] the way I see it.
