Silly fears

Featured Replies

So, today I'm sitting alone at work, not paying attention to what's going on around me, when I hear a kind of foily rustle...

I check the door, and noone has come in, so I go back to working.

I hear another foily rustle, as well as a crinkle of paper.

Again, I check the door, and nothing is there.

Suddenly, a shadow falls on me. I look to see what's casting the shadow and suddenly jump up and scream in fear.

It is a half deflated spongebob balloon "walking" toward me.

It was one of those gift baloons that have the accordian arms and legs and don't float all the way up because it's legs keep it grounded.

For as long as I can remember, I've always been afraid of deflating balloons. They seem to have this evil power of walking around rooms and surprising me when I'm least expecting them too. I've had one balloon leave one room, cross the hallway, and stare at me while I was sleeping...

Does anyone else have any silly things that their scared of and would like to share?

~M

Get back here so I can rub your butt.

Well my silly fear is looking at tall buildings. I can go past one in a car and feel the hairs on the back of my neck rise, my palms start to sweat and I feel an intense tingling in my lower back. I have no problem when I'm IN a tall building, up a ladder or anything height related. It's almost a phobia

Bathroom doors - the kind that you push/pull open. I never walk right in front of the outside of them, as I'm afraid someone is going to push it open and hit me. Oddly enough I only have this fear if it's a bathroom door, not if it's something else.. probably because I have seen this happen to someone before with a bathroom door and it really stuck in my mind :XD:

I'm also afraid of elevator doors. You know when the doors are closing and someone sticks their hand in at the last minute? I'm ALWAYS afraid it's just going to keep closing.

Meh neither are that weird :P I clearly have an issue with doors though.

the only time i wake up in the middle of the night is because i slipped in my dream... yeah i dont get too many nightmares

1. I'm always afraid that when about to open a door (like the one to the boys' locker room at school) just as I grasp the handle, someone opens it up hard and breaks my fingers. I also have the tendency to push doors open with my foot because I'm sort of a germaphobe, so I guess that has something to do with doors opening hard.

2. In our foreign language hallway, the lower level Spanish classes make a lot of posters and hang them on the hallway walls. Everytime people walk by them, the bottom portion of the poster flies up, and I always get the feeling that when I walk past it at just the right moment, it'll give me a paper cut right on my jugular.

There's this home-made lava lamp in a glass bottle that my science teacher made. Every time I walk past it, I think it's going to explode in my face.

Fire.

THERE I SAID IT.

Got an F in my metals class because I realized I was scared [cabbage]less of it, even though I didn't think I was before I signed up for the class. Always afraid the sparks were going to catch on my pants. Also because of the oxycetaline (?) exploding, or leaking and killing us all. Worst part is my homeroom is located right next to the shop that my metals class is in. :ohnoes:

DO YOU HEAR THE VOICES TOO?!?!

Yea, same. And people standing behind the door I've just opened. And people lurking right behind my front door with the glass thing there. And someone hiding in my car when I leave in the mornings before dawn. And after some recent readings, being anywhere remotely near a forest before light.

To the people who are afraid of swinging doors, and hurting themselves on them:

I had this same fear as well. What I do, is before I reach for the door handle, I pop my foot direction behind the door. That way, if someone does open the door while your reaching, it buffers on your foot instead of your hand.

Mirrors, or anything reflective. But only if it's in the bathroom. I really have no idea why, but every time I go to the bathroom I have to duck down so I don't look in the mirror.

What really sucks is when people have mirrors right next to the toilet... :ohnoes:

And neither does this one.

Bugs. Ewwww. Too many bad memories of these creatures

In second grade a bee (counts as a bug) stung me

In sixth grade, some giant black moth thingy flew into my shirt I screamed and took off my shirt right away.. <_<

I have a friend who suffers from something like this. He says it feels like he's going to 'fall upward', off the earth and towards the sky. We take great delight in pointing out tall buildings to him.

I'm also afraid of elevator doors. You know when the doors are closing and someone sticks their hand in at the last minute? I'm ALWAYS afraid it's just going to keep closing.

I saw that happen the other day- The door just opened again. It's just one of those mysterious things that you never want to find out.

Homemade floury tortillas give me shivers. I'm not afraid of them, it's just whenever I try to eat one and feel that weird rough feeling it makes me shiver. o_O I suppose that doesn't really count as a fear then.

When I walk down stairs, I get a horrible feeling that I'm being followed or watched, so I proceed to run or jump down, or otherwise just get down as fast as possible.

Well mine is sort of like this except its at night.

[bleep]ing hate looking at a mirror in a dark room that is very little lit and looking at a mirror just freaks me out.

Not a phobia as such but when im sitting at home alone with the dog, watching tv/xbox or whatever and the dog gets up and goes to the lounge door, like he does when someones coming in, but theres no-one there. That [cabbage] freaks me out, especially if he growls or barks. The worse part is you have to take him out and show him theres no-one there before he goes back to his basket.

Britney Spears when she was bald. its a complete turn off and I can't stand looking at it.

haha true that is not a pretty brittney!!

I have an extreme dislike for sanding things down or when people file their nails...that sound makes me want to cringe up and die...but I don't really have any silly fears of anything...

Spiders. But not really. I don't freak out when I see a spider, that's not a big deal. It's when I see it and then I lose track of it. That creeps me out a little. I also put on a pair of pants once that had a fairly large spider in it. The squirming feeling... :-|

It's not serious arachnophobia at all though, I still catch spiders that I see inside the house at let them go outside instead of killing them. The only things I kill if I have a choice to do otherwise are mosquitoes.

One time I was sitting on the toilet when I saw a spider crawling up my leg. I did not take a dump on that toilet ever again until I moved 2 years later. Spiders don't really bug me, but that was just horrifying and I was only in 5th grade.
