March 1, 201214 yr My vast list of eccentric personality quirks. No matter how hard I try, they are too instinctive for me to control and they have been obstructive on more than one occasion when I try setting up a serious conversation and it falls down on me. It might be because I naturally have my head in the clouds or something else, but it's just irritating when they get in the way when I don't need them there.

March 2, 201214 yr My nose started bleeding, which screwed up my morning schedule. :mad:God I hate when that happens. Especially when it happens right before I have to leave for school.
March 2, 201214 yr People who use big or fancy words to say really simple things. Since we have the "why police" here at the moment, I object to it for several reasons. The first is that it makes people smug, because they start to believe that they are smarter than other people just because they apparetnly read a thesaurus as a recreational activity, but I also find that some people make these really awkward sentences (grammatically), or they need to take artistic license with the actual meanings of words to make them fit (or just get it outright wrong). As an example, with some artistic liscense on my part as to some of the words proper definitions: When the proletariat use chichi confabulation, I yearn to percuss their face with my hand. Imagine if people actually talked like that :ohnoes:
March 2, 201214 yr Please clarify - which category of personality quirks? 'Eccentric' hardly identifies the type of quirk. Spacing out in the middle of saying something in stopping or just slowing down all of a sudden and noting something else, having a mood shift from being excited and into something to bored and apathetic about the subject mentioned, and bluntly making irrelevant observations out of the blue. Then there is the fact I don't like looking at someone's face in a conversation half the time because I'd rather doodle and write while listening where it's seen as insulting to most people as if the listener isn't taking the speaker seriously. The latest is more of a physical habit itself than a quirk. I will add a few more details later if required.
March 2, 201214 yr Author I think I share a few of those. If I'm asked a question that I really need to think about, I can't make eye-contact until I've completed my thought. I don't think I suffer from schizophrenia, but I do share the personality quirk in regards to irrelevant observations - I try to make it into a discussion, so any random thought will be posed as a question like the way 'Freakonomics' presents them. Is there anything about these personality quirks which annoy/frustrate you? I find them completely normal, although they can hinder your work progress depending on the setting which they occur in.
March 2, 201214 yr I am mainly frustrated because people take me less seriously or perceive me as weird and don't value my opinion as much, and that's in a discussion. As for where it just flat out removed me from an opportunity altogether, I was showing shades of this in the middle of my first job interview this week (especially the eye contact part) and I actually needed to be employed even though it was mediocre at best. Overall, I am defining my frustrations with my quirks as a downright moment or mood killer. Since mental disorders might come up eventually as potential explanations, bipolar disorder does run in my dad's side of the family even though my personality could be the cause from inheriting the Cloudcuckoolander portions from those on my mom's side. I am starting to enjoy the Socrates style of approach here to be honest. It's requiring me to think more into myself and helps me understand why I find something annoying and can deal with it easier.

March 2, 201214 yr Poor hygiene is actually a common myth when it comes to acne. You should wash at least once a day anyway, but it has no therapeutic effect on acne. Despite being one of the most widespread skin conditions, acne is also one of the most poorly understood. There are many myths and misconceptions about it, including: [...] "Acne is caused by having dirty skin and poor hygiene." Most of the biological reactions that trigger acne occur beneath the skin, not on the surface of the skin. Therefore, how clean your skin is will have little to no effect on your acne. You should wash every day and wash your face twice a day. More frequent washing will make no difference to your acne and could make symptoms worse by aggravating your skin. http://www.nhs.uk/Co...ges/Causes.aspx (National Health Service, February 2012) | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
March 3, 201214 yr Oh okay. Well to dispel any doubts, I am very hygienic but not overtly so that I'm drying up my skin. I learnt the hard way with my hair that washing frequently ruined it. Now I can't go one day with the grease appearing. ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢
March 3, 201214 yr Washing your skin everyday won't really do much. You don't need a shower everyday, but it's not like it'll hurt if you do it. Washing your hair everyday will hurt it though.

March 3, 201214 yr Author You don't need a shower everyday. Umm.... Wut? Do note the precise terminology. He's right - you don't need to shower everyday. You may want to, in order to maintain cleanliness to a greater standard, though.
March 3, 201214 yr You don't need a shower everyday. Umm.... Wut?Exactly what he said.Actually there is a point to that. Scrubbing (or just hot water or soap) in the shower will remove a good portion of the stratum corneum, which not only protects your living skin, but does quite a bit to keep you hydrated. Long story short, excessive showers are a really good way to dry out your skin, and increase your chance of infection. A cool shower the day after is good to re hydrate the stratum corneum, and the every other day showers give your body time to actually repair the damage that a normal shower inflicts. Obviously if your going to have sans douche (no shower) days, you should probably plan the schedule around your life so that you don't do things like heavy exercise on the wrong day, and you probably want to set up your dates for closer to the last time you showered than not.
March 3, 201214 yr I'd rather not smell like a bum than have my skin a little dry. That being said, I don't take a piece of steel wool into the shower and scrub my body with it either.

March 3, 201214 yr I'd rather not smell like a bum than have my skin a little dry. That being said, I don't take a piece of steel wool into the shower and scrub my body with it either. It's ~20 cells thick. A wash cloth is way more than enough once your skin is wet. Even just water will do it once its hot enough, all you have to do is stand there. It's also the infections and skin damage that would have me worried (think tree without any bark). Anyway my point is that from a health perspective, ideally you would have less than 7 showers in a given week. And something that annoys me is that media files don't all have a universal volume setting, so sometimes you end up with files (especially anything from recorded TV) that have much different volume settings. Music tends to be pretty solid though at least. And yes, I did just [bleep] about having to change the volume ever 22/44 minutes (mostly because I like to fall asleep to the TV, and I have to find episodes that all match volume wise).
March 3, 201214 yr Author I don't think more than 5 showers is necessary in a given week, but it honestly depends on the other hygiene habits in general. If you sweat a lot when you sleep, then there may be an issue.
