May 1, 201214 yr They'd better talk about the advantages of stopping at this point; they've already proven you can't scare someone into stopping, so show them how their body can recover if they stop now. I'm guessing all that advertizing showing smoker's lungs and stuff probably discouraged a lot of people from stopping because look, my body's already gone to shit anyway, why should I stop?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wW25l88zAQ This is the most annoying one ;/
May 1, 201214 yr Being in public and getting an itch in a spot which would not be appropriate to scratch. This. It just feels more awkward when I move a certain part of my body to "scratch" it without looking like I am scratching it. Nowadays, I keep forgetting I am in a public area most of the time when I scratch my body with the exception of one or two spots. Also itching of the foot when you have your shoes on, while moving around (walking or driving).

May 1, 201214 yr As a reply to people who think I drink store juice and how store juice is bad, LOOK AT MY LOCATION  We make our own juice, by cutting apples into a mash and pressing juice from that mash, doing it the way we have done for like 30 years with the same machine. And in stores every domestic brand here makes almost 100% guaranteed safer stuff than nonamer brands in UK, Germany or US. And as it goes for juice, regular apple juice doesn't get pasteurized here most of the time. So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends. May 3, 201214 yr For the enjoyment of the people in the Off-topic forum, I bought some apple juice. It "contains concentrate from Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Chile, China, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Turkey, and the U.S." No wonder it was $2.50 for 12 ounces of juice. May 3, 201214 yr Shows how globalized the world is for you, people. We have foods still mostly from our own country, though it is gradually changing still. To bring it ON-topic, I hate how slow my internet connection is. Really. Just 1 Mbit/s, takes years to get anything. So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends. May 5, 201214 yr "hey, can I go (insert action here)?""I don't know, CAN you?" Makes me want to slap that person. Out of curiosity, are you the person asking the second line, or do you want to slap the people who point out the gramatical error? One my Dad always used to do if we asked to see the juice is he would pick it up (normally off the floor because that's where the juice jug always ended up), and then put it back where it had been. I'm not sure when we started asking to see the juice instead of asking to have it (as in I don't know where that comes from), but it proved to be a light hearted way to correct us. And I'm one of those people who will use a question to point out when people mistake can and may.

May 6, 201214 yr I mean I am guilty of sometimes using the "I don't know? Can you?" line.Oh I see. I am guilty of the same. (insert very smug face here) At least this is what I thought of when I read it and it annoyed the hell out of me anyways. Usually pointing out that you need their permission in order to go usually counters it quite well. What I mean is something like this: "Can I go to the bathroom?""I don't know; can you?"*Leave to the bathroom*"I never said you could""But you implied I was allowed to go""No I didn't""You said you were unsure if I was allowed to go. If you had any objections to it you would have given a definite "no" as an answer. In order for me to be able to use the bathroom I require your permission to do so. Because you were unsure of if I was able to go or not you must have been alright with me leaving, as anything other than a definite "no" would mean that I have at least your permission." They way I phrased it makes it sound kind of douchey, but it's one of those things that if you can word correctly, it'll leave them speachless.
May 6, 201214 yr Using "can" in that sense is correct. It isn't an error. People just assume it's incorrect. There's a really long response as to what sense you are using "can", but I forgot what it was... And I'm usually asking the "hey, can I do (whatever)" question. Unfinished netherrack symbol of Khorne. Never forget. ~creeper face w/single tear~ DO YOU HEAR THE VOICES TOO?!?!

When I was using "can" I was using its secondary model form as a verbal modifier asking for permission, as opposed to expressing an ability. I thought since you were a teacher you'd know that. My bad. MAY I use the restroom?

The biggest thing for me, people who volunteer to read out loud, and probably couldn't even read volunteer off of the page...Reading out loud in class is literally the worst thing ever. I mean sure, in elementary school it's fine, but even all the way through High School people in my classes would insist that things were read aloud.
