I've heard they also can go through portals sometimes (I may have read that on here, IDK), which is why I built a little house around my portal. I do not want my base being blown up by a bunch of explosions from a floating jellyfish.

Someone do it. I would, but I don't have admin on my computer.

I'd love to go to this new Hell place, but Obsidian is hard to find. >.<

Don't you find it where lava is mixed with water?

Get a bucket of water, mine down to adminium, and branch out. You'll eventually hit lava. Put the flow block above the lava, and it will make obsidian. The key is to have it hit the lava from above, not the side, or you'll only get cobblestone. It takes a while to mine, and you'll need a diamond pickaxe. I believe it's 16 blocks for one gateway.

Btw, sunsets work:

[bleep] Hell.

The ghosts attacks can blow up the ground under you. Lost a diamond pickaxe.

And they're a pain in the ass to hit with a bow. That's pretty much the only way you'll be able to kill them.

And my obsidian gate bugged out I think. I warped in, couldn't warp back out, died. Warped in, and warped out... only to end up in some cave that I have no clue in hell as to where it was.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

Downloaded the update, now whenever I try to join the server I play on it says outdated client.

All I can assume is that some admin needs to update the server.

And I wanted to work on my house of mazes before I leave for a week <_<

Sorry to break it to you, but when the admin updates the server everything gets deleted. You'll have to restart your "house of mazes", which sounds like a great idea but I expect it would get pretty annoying eventually. I would end up tunnelling out :P

It's not one floor, it's ten floors. I also have most of it mapped out on paper so the only real problem in building it is getting someone to spawn me the materials.

The server also has warps, so it wouldn't be hard to get out of.

In case it wasn't already abundantly obvious, don't set fire to trees inside a forest biome:

mcforestfire.png

>_>

I admit I did this on purpose, but I only set two fracking trees on fire to begin with, not... however many are in that pic. And there are more, I was completely surrounded by flaming trees at the point I took that picture.

On a more serious note, I've noticed that forest biomes seem to be by far the most common for me. I've started in/next to one in all the worlds I've generated so far (3 worlds). After that seems to be sand/desert ones - desert ones seem to have a crapton of clay if they're near or surrounded by water, or clay itself is just far far far more common than it was before (which I hope). I've seen some pretty nifty looking mountains as well. Winter biomes seem to be rare for me, I've only seen either one, or two very close together. Even still, there wasn't any frozen water nearby, just snow on the ground.

And hey, Minecraft must've crashed when I was typing this. I had it open when I started, and now it's gone >.> figures. Ah well, didn't lose any of my exploration on peaceful mode in this new world I created for the purpose of examining biomes.

I started a new world for the sake of exploration, and the biomes are much better. I'm also finding mainly wooded/"normal" and sand, but found a couple mid-sized snow areas. I decided to start on normal, and it wasn't too bad. I built a house immediately and stayed in it all night, so there weren't many problems. The first cave I found was amazing. It was near the surface, and after exploring maybe half of it, I already have more iron and gold than I did in my whole first game combined. Then, to explore biomes, I took a trip across the map, just walking in one direction above ground and taking anything worthwhile. After returning to my base, I must have at least six full stacks of clay, which I'm making into bricks now.

I still have one question, though: How do I find pumpkins? I've explored extensively on two different worlds, and have never found a pumpkin. It's a bit disappointing.

I'm just about to mine Obsidian to make the portal to hell. Is there a guide on mod tower/traps? how does it work?

If you mean "mob tower", the new update has made most of the spawning strategies obsolete, but this tower design was probably the best, and will still give you plenty of items.

To whoever asked about obsidian, don't mine it. Grab a lot of buckets, fill them up with lava and place the lava where you want obsidian. Then have running water flow to the lava and it makes obsidian. Much faster that 15 seconds/block to mine it.

@post above.

I generated a world yesterday and spawned in a heavily forested biome.

This is a keeper.

@Dizzle.

If you read Beowulf, I was going to try and recreate the Heorot, or the mead hall, in Minecraft, however I am now doing that with specially made wood slices provided by my neighbor.

He made them just for me, so Im just going to make it out of those instead.

Although the Minecraft idea would have been kick ass.

Finally made it to the Nether... not very err... what I was expecting. Made a portal in a basement under my house though for quick access and the return portal isnt too far off my house.

THAT would be awesome, I could totally picture that in Minecraft. All mobs that try and get in shall be nicknamed "Grendel".

Dear god I almost had a heart attack.

I was moving across a patch of sand when I decided to build a temporary scaffolding so I could figure out where stuff is. The entire beach shifted and fell downward. *TWANG TWANG TWANG TWANG TWANG*

When I went into the Nether last night, I had it on peaceful, so I wouldn't get mobbed by ghasts. Just wanted to explore and look at how the landscape was formed first, and examine the new block types.

I located X's new video of his first venture into the Nether this morning via the wiki's page on the Nether. I now will never go into the Nether on anything but peaceful because of the sound effects >_>

Damn, those things are creepy... and the zombie pigmen are almost as bad, the sounds they make are just... creepier than I expected. I don't like zombies to begin with (although the normal zombies I can deal with easily), but those sounds are just... >.<
