Yes, in fact that's how my mob trap works but on a much larger scale. Though you need a lava or drowning trap at the bottom to kill off the ones who survive. Also you need to have water flow(s) to the edge of the hole (8 blocks long so it dosen't spill over the edge) as mobs will not walk down anything more than 2 blocks deep without being coaxed with water flows.
October 29, 201015 yr Tested my mob trap out last night for an hour. Got something like... 9117 items or something in that hour o.o the trap goes from bedrock up to a few floors (floors are... 4 blocks high each?) above sea level. Considering the original trap is from bedrock to sky limit, and puts out 11.5k items/hr, I think mine works pretty damn good :P got something like 523 blocks of tnt now, gonna go mining for a bit soon.

October 29, 201015 yr I bought this game a few days ago, I am absolutely loving every minute of it! Found this massive dungeon with loads of Coal, Iron, Redstone and Diamond ore :D Creepers are annoying the hell out of me. I've had some terrible luck with them recently. :( Tomorrow I'll post a picture of my house ^_^

October 30, 201015 yr A fun note: Ghast can spawn near Slip portals in the normal world, but very rarely. Make sure you keep your portal area small. Won't be fun as their attacks are the strength of creeper's explosion and they do it a lot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pc2N0wckNn4

October 30, 201015 yr Arg, just died and lost like 10 Iron Pickaxes >.< Was mining the ground, then suddenly fell into a lava pool. Couldn't find my way out and lost most of my gear. Luckily, I had supplies back at base, but it'll be a long time until I can get back on track. Was looking for diamond so I could make diamond pickaxes and mine obsidian for the Hell Portal. In other news, anyone have that link for the mob trap? I might as well build one of those. It requires a lot of resources to build, and a lot of time to actually do it in. Of course, you can just make it less floors and get less items/hr if you wanted. If you don't think you have the time and resources for that trap, this one might be better, although I admit I never really looked into it myself: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=52532&p=848700 Puts out far less items/hr, but it also states it only takes 2-3 hours to build with diamond tools, in comparison to the one I actually built, which took... 2-3 days real time >_> Can't wait for the hell update, honestly. When you go mining you will pick up stone, coal, iron as you go along. When your pickaxes run out, make a furnace and workbench, make a few tools, abandon the furnace and workbench and keep moving.
