06-Sep-2010 - Golden Gnome Video Awards Results

 

In the build-up to RuneFest we held two competitions: a Gallery competition and the Golden Gnome Video Awards. In the latter of the two, players were asked to submit videos under one of six distinct categories for their chance of winning a Big Ticket (a trip to visit Jagex in the UK), lifetime RuneScape membership, a RuneFest goody-bag and a coveted Golden Gnome award!

 

Unsurprisingly, the response from the community was fantastic, and we soon found ourselves whiling away mornings, afternoons and evenings reviewing entries to choose our finalists.

 

On the day of RuneFest, the Golden Gnome awards ceremony itself was held live in front of the RuneFest audience, who would also be deciding the ultimate winner of each category. After much laughter, clapping and cheering, the winners of the 2010 Golden Gnomes were chosen.

 

And the winners are (drum roll please!):

The live action videos are painful to watch, especially the short stories.

Mino Tauros's skillcape emote video makes me wow every time... it's truly incredible. I've not watched them all yet, but the amount of creativity I've seen so far is just amazing! It really is :)

While I do acknowledge that I'll never create anything better, the live action video of the Quiz Show was horrible.

The idea was good, the Quiz dude was good .. but the Goblin Killer ... kind'a stiff.

Though the goblin Killer played by the same person as the Quiz dude, so good that he managed to pull off two very different characters.

Both of the animation videos were great.

 

On the winner of the animation RSMV, that must have taken an absolute age to print off that many photos.

Ahhh 1carrot, legend. Met him in the queue at the start, he recognised me cus of my tshirt. He was on his own so we kinda took him on into our little group and spent quite a bit of time with him during the day. I also saved him a space at the front of the audience for the Golden Gnomes. Little did I know that he would be the eventual winner :P The video footage he uploaded of him collecting his award was actually filmed by me hehe.

 

The second live action video finalist wasn't for me, I didn't think it was that funny but kudos for dressing up and acting it out.

 

My video clearly didn't impress Jagex enough, it wasnt shown in any of the montage clips nor has it been added to their playlist. *sadface*

Worse video reward goes to - The guys who chop down a living tree just for this stupid gnome reward rather than any real purpose. I really hope those other logs came from elsewhere rather than chopping down trees just for the vid.

 

Unless ofcourse they actually burn firewood to keep warm or camping at the same time possibly.. which I doubt as it was probably only for the vid.

 

Others were alrite.

I got a head ache from the emote. Overall, great pieces of work. I should have tried myself with live action. :)

I didn't like the fact they cut down a real tree either. They weren't the only people to damage real trees in the competition though. Lots of people submitted poor quality videos of doing rs skills in real life and quite a few of them involved hacking away at live trees :(

I liked that one best. Everyone has a different taste I guess.

The only decent one was the one from Mino Taures. The rest were pretty awful especially considering these were the finalists.

The rest of the winners pretty much sucked. Doodled story about the God Wars, which was inaccurate.... I definitely wouldn't vote for that.

I saw. But it wasn't as amazing, first person view has too many angle changes which was annoying

I wonder if Jagex were to say "prove you bought the video making software" how many people would actually be entering these competitions lol.
